Welcome to enrich the small circle [Homo] A reporter's work notes (1)
Author: yuluoqingsha
If you've ever stood on the highest point in the city, you'll be able to see more than just the buildings.
I can't see the tired face, I can't hear the noisy voices in the streets, whether it's the warmth of good, or the coldness of evil, everything is far away under your feet.
This was told to me by a musician, who was my interview subject, and we stayed together for half a year. I waited outside his door at 6 a.m. every morning and then spent the whole day, doing nothing but following him, trying not to make him uncomfortable, and leaving him for a while when he saw fit. So, I took notes on a suitcase, and then added more research materials, and when I returned to the desk in the newsroom again, I realized that I had to go home and sort through the boxes that filled the room. Fortunately, my colleagues already knew my style, and my editors were ready.
It took me a month to sort it out, type out all the notes and things that I thought were useful, and nail them into a thick notebook, about the thickness of a Xinhua dictionary, and I also had a good content index, but I hadn't found a single topic yet. As my editor said, "an introduction" can be like a hook to bring out all the original material I have obtained over the long period of time, and the impression of the characters that I already have very clear in my mind, completely but without being cumbersome. You can understand that space is limited in every magazine, so don't expect an editor to look at your manuscript and say, "Great, you can't cut a word, and just put it on every page you can use." In fact, I've never heard anything like that, and I even doubt that the editors can cut out every essential word if they need to.
When I'm confronted with the materials on paper and the emptiness in my mind, I have only one way, turn on my stereo.
Leaning against the wall, just across from my desk, there was a low table on which rested my "listening to music" machine.
I don't have a lot of money, but I love music, which is probably one of the reasons why the editor thought of me for this mission.
The equipment is rudimentary, but I will say that the time spent in it is no more than that of the equipment that costs more money.
The music soon came out, the song called "Night Rain," famous, but not often mentioned, probably because it didn't have that kind of charm in it, and because the author was stubborn enough not to revise it, leaving it to remain as primitive and rude, or, as one famous conductor put it, "a blot." "My version comes from Yang's computer, directly transcribed, and authentic, regardless of its advantages and disadvantages. This is probably the same as my initial impression from him. Yang is a real person, sometimes as hard as a rock, never flinching and not explaining. In fact, the first thing he said when he saw me was, "I'm not going to tell you anything, but you can see for yourself." "I didn't bring a translator, which made it a little difficult for me to speak, but I think it was worth it. The translator I hired was only available on occasions where I thought it was necessary, and at my request, to translate some of the conversations. I will verify this through my own records and memories. This gave me a very direct impression of Yang, and in my experience with interviews, this impression is often corrected, but no matter how you improve it, you will always find that this impression is still an indispensable background color of the article after the deadline.
Night rain, as the name suggests, comes from a rainy night. That was Yang's earliest creation. While he was being instructed, he played this incomplete piece and showed a kind of intelligence. In a conversation with me, Professor He Hongchui said that he believed that Yang's talent had already been shown in this piece, and that it had given him the confidence to accept a "layman" as his disciple. "It was a good decision". He said. I don't doubt this, because every one of his teachers will express satisfaction and joy that they are Yang's teachers. Even though Professor Li Yingzhen did not show the same interest as Professor Gong Xiaoling, I doubt that if I was not present, she would have looked at Yang with a "son-in-law" look. I am not offending Li by saying this, in fact, when she first met Yang Jingxing, there was no such possibility, but I think that my judgment is not unreliable, and it has been continuously confirmed in subsequent interviews.
Professor Li Yingzhen was Yang's first professional teacher, although Yang's initial choice was not the piano major she expected (which surprised many people!), but from Yang's growth path, compared to Hu, He, Gong, Ding and others, Li Yingzhen deservedly became Yang's most important teacher, and Yang also became Li's most proud disciple. In China's most famous music professional journal "Chinese Music", an interview was published, and the subtitle used was very apt - Li Yingzhen's closed disciple. In China, "closed disciple" not only means a teacher-student relationship, but also an implicit bond of emotion and honor. My Chinese friend said with certainty: if this is a martial arts novel, Yang will defeat everyone who comes to challenge him for his teacher, and if Li has retired to retirement by this time. That's true, in the follow-up article, I will have a complete chapter to describe this kind of "kicking the gym" full of "kung fu movies".
The melancholy and confusing ending of "Night Rain" will come to an end, and my mind will begin to fly. Yang is a genius, a genius is always sensitive, but also broad. Sensitivity brings them the truth of the world, and broadness allows those pains not to destroy their beliefs, but to turn them into a beauty. I've felt this again and again in the music of Bach, Mozart and Beethoven. I remember the first time I heard Bach's cello in a dark room with no light, and that day I made a mistake and was punished by confinement. I have no memory of any mistakes I have made, and the traces left in my heart except for the darkness that makes people terrible and sad may be the sound of the cello coming from there. It was the first time I had heard such beautiful music. I'm sorry, but I'm here to say that my dear brother Troy, the "little pig and little piggy bare ass" we sang at that time was really not good music. There is good music in this world, and there is bad music, or in other words, bad music is not music at all.
But I will say, that time I heard the music. At that time, I didn't know any tonality, interval, timbre, symbols, or even musical instruments, and I couldn't tell the difference. So, although I now recall the "cello", for the little child who cried quietly in the dark room, he could hear it, maybe it was just a rhythm of the heart. "Music is not a regular or irregular combination of musical notes, and there are no words that can be translated except the rhythm of the heart. "My music teacher gave me this definition in the first lesson, and I always keep it in mind and use it to validate all music.
I asked Yang what he thought of music.
His answer was succinct: "Go and listen." ”
So, I asked for permission and copied all the music in his laptop, including those sonatas, concertos, symphonies, pop songs, folk instruments, some soundtracks, some fragments. However, I can't tell you about the music that hasn't been released yet, I can only talk about my own feelings.
The night rain can make me think of my childhood, of the black space, of the light of music. But what about the "sun in the rain", now they are like a young guard, rushing with fearless momentum, and before the ears have even touched the prelude, they have been carried away by this torrent of power. The grandeur of the brass and strings seems to be a kind of oath of strength, but then in the pizzicato of the strings, the familiar piano sound is heard, and the music of the two voices follows each other, sometimes echoing, sometimes up and down, with beautiful and grand colors, people immediately get the author's original idea.
"My hometown is a small town, and the economy is not developed now, and every detail on the street can be remembered, and that summer, there was a rainstorm, and we were racing our bikes together, and it felt really crazy. ”
I found Xu Wei in another big city, a very successful person, and my first impression when I met him was that this person must have lived a very sincere life. He told me the story of Yang, Lu Lin, Zhang Yang, him, and Du Ling, who were together. The story is beautiful and sentimental. All youth is beautiful, and all youth is full of regrets. I have a group of good friends in my hometown, in the same small town, who are now scattered, and I can understand their feelings. When saying goodbye, Xu Wei received a phone call, and the ringtone I heard was a variation of the sun in the rain. And this is one of the many times I have ever taken the lives of these brothers from them.
Whether it is the time when this piece was just composed, or the era when Yang has been recognized by the world, the evaluation of "Sun in the Rain" is still defined by "early", which may mean immaturity and lack of ideology, but what makes people willing to explore is that in the music survey of young people, this piece has always ranked among those masterpieces, from the top ten to the top five, there are always some boys and girls who love it, and this proportion is always rising. This may be the charm and value of music. Because of its melodious melody and exuberant personality, this music cannot be confined by the adult world, as one person said, "Essentially, the vast majority of us are just old high school students." ”
Five minutes passed quickly.
The following tune may be the most adapted of Yang's music, and if you are not a music lover or even listen to pop songs, you will also wonder why this song is so familiar.
In fact, it is not surprising that when this two-part polyphonic work, in the piano and trumpet following each other, softens your mood again and again, and reminds you of the sweet past, you will understand why so many couples choose it as the background music for their wedding. The beautiful piano melodies and chords, warm and soft, accompanied by the clarity and firmness of the trumpet, are a little intoxicating in the passage of time. Even if that beautiful theme never allows you to capture it easily, even if you may suddenly lose its shadow in the music, feel a kind of confusion and loss, but the whole piece never brings you complete sadness and hopeless ending. At the 3rd Weiye @Na Music Conference, the discussion of Yang Jingxing's works also reached a consensus: in Yang's early works, no matter how much sadness there is, the final tone is bright, the background color is warm, and the field is broad.
This piece is far more complex than the previous creations, with variations, canon, modulation, and a more modern atonal sensuality. In fact, it has already heralded a new stage in Yang Jingxing's music creation. And one of the reasons why countless people agree that he is genius may be that this complex and beautiful music appeared so early and so densely.
In the first two minutes of the first part, they express their respective personalities, far and near, strong and weak, each standing out and contrasting with each other; then there are three minutes of imitating each other, as if learning from each other, gradually approaching, blending into each other, forming a tendency that cannot be separated forever; the last three minutes are the most heartwarming canon, if the front can't move you, when you hear this, you will inevitably be intoxicated. The second part, still accompanied, seems to find itself in each other's themes, even at the cost of melancholy and separation, but it doesn't feel hopeless, but flows into the end along the notes. The piano is pleasant and graceful in the middle part, and the trumpet is high-spirited and fresh, no longer as the two voices before to let people know that there is a difference, the music is like one, the intervals and chords are counterpointed, all emphasized, but before it was emphasized each other, now it is emphasized only.
I've heard this song many times, because I'm often the one standing next to the groom, but none of them have touched me like this.
The music was played over and over again, especially the bad sound, either too loud or too low, and the messy venue and messy mood, no matter how good the music was, it was like white noise, heard and unheard. But it's still good music, because in the moment of silence, we still crave to hear it again. The power of the classic always comes from the moment of reopening.
It's a duo piece, and I regret I didn't hear the original author play it, but Yang told me that he still plays it and that the trumpet will always be his instrument.
There was a white piano in Young's room, and a golden trumpet was standing there, and a picture was placed next to the trumpet, which I had planned to see, but without more precise permission, I had to give up. Because I can't completely break down the relationship that I have formed so hard because of such an incident. But I can safely surmise that the picture is of a beautiful girl, and I don't know if this can be explained, the name of this piece is "Wind and Rain".
"Glow", "Cardamom" and those saliva songs after that, I heard it, but I didn't engrave it on this disc. I'm not saying that I feel sorry for Yang's songwriting, on the contrary, seeing these songs written makes it easier for me to understand Yang's views on music and the role Yang has played in the history of Chinese music, which may also have significance for the development of world music. In fact, in the last year alone, 190 papers related to Yang Jingxing's pop song creation have been published in the academic community, among which Su Honghu's paper deserves attention. I won't go into it here.
What really came out of the disc was a song called "Water Flows Through Your Fingers", which was never officially released, and I heard Ms. Ran Lei say that there was a version of this song, but only a few friends had it, and the one she kept was well kept.
"I heard that this song was specially created by Yang Jingxing for you. ”
"Yes," Ms. Ran Lei is very gentle, I can hardly imagine that she has ever sung rock songs, "that was the first song I came across that was written for me, and I can't tell you in words the gratitude and joy I ever felt in my heart." ”
I can understand that even today, in that little bar, you can still hear Fu Feirong – the queen of Chinese music – singing this song here. Every time I meet an old guest on this occasion, I will be sad, it was the youth they shared with Fu Feirong, the unknown young singer took the stage for the first time, and the guests who love music gave sincere applause. There are not many songs sung in two rounds, and even now I rarely encounter masterpieces, I don't know if there will be a round singing work that surpasses this song in the future, but it is never possible to replicate this pair's sincere feelings for youth, love, and time.
"Bloom" and "Tranquility" are both calm and simple music, they are sweet, they are simple, although they are different themes, different emotions, but I always like to put them together, end to end. I used to think it was just my personal preference, but one day, my editor burst into tears, held an empty wine glass, gestured to me for a long time, and then turned on his stereo. On that night, these old men in our editorial department listened to "Bloom" and "Tranquility" countless times.
"Fuck his bullshit magazine, fuck his deadline, I'm going to kick the boss's ass and tell him: this is fucking youth, it's dog @ mother's love!"
Sorry, I have to transcribe it in the original soundtrack, because there are some things that can't be cut, every word is its whole, and the whole can't be abridged.
I've got to drink a cup of unsweetened bitter coffee to refresh myself, and I know that the tune down is going on and needs to be put in. I really don't want to admit it, every time I hear it, it always makes people lose themselves. There are many ways to succeed in a song, but the simplest evaluation may be: I cried.
Yes, you heard it right, I, an old man who has gone through so many ups and downs of right and wrong, and is covered with iron-thick scars, can still cry? Although there are no tears, I know that they are just a cover for my years of training, and in fact, I am crying. So, I'm going to take a break, have a cup of coffee, stretch my arms hard, take a few deep breaths, and then slowly press that play button.
I don't know how many articles have been analyzed about "It's Us", every instrument, every player, every paragraph, every note, and I doubt that what else can be studied next, the white dress of the performer?
So, if you're just as tired of the chatter comments and guides as I am, throw them aside, and if you still have a garbage can downstairs that is just the right size, you can push open the window and shout "don't hit", and then let these experts and non-experts follow their long comments and plug in the wings of strength together.
"Listen. ”
I like it more and more now.
To evaluate it, you need to use all your senses: eyes, open, ears, up, mouth, closed, heart, follow......
What you hear, that's what it is. If you don't hear it, then continue again.
I'm not saying it's easy to listen to music, in fact, I've been taking music lessons for ten years, and I've been running the news of music for more than 20 years, and the most honest sentence I've heard is: listening to music is not easy, if it's classical music, it's even harder.
All the teachers who tell you that it is very simple have only two purposes: to make you relaxed, to make you relaxed.
Yes, music is an art that flows through time, unlike painting, you can see it at a glance, even if you can't see all the details clearly, you can have a general grasp first. Classical music never does, it requires all your attention to be at least half an hour dedicated, and possibly more. You're probably dealing with music that isn't translated by literature, it may or may not have a title, but you have to keep listening to it. That's music, and that's what you really like to enjoy music.
It's the same with "It's Us". It involves a wide variety of instruments, and in fact this is a piece that Yang wrote for a real band. This band is called "306", a total of 11 instruments, flute, guzheng, huqin, dulcimer, pipa, flute, double row keys, drum kit, erhu, electric guitar and three strings, and this band had a total of 12 people at the time, and now they have become familiar music players, but at that time they were still unknown, only in the Puhai Conservatory of Music has a certain reputation, but at that time some people doubted whether their professional ability was in line with this fame. The students I interviewed said that they were most concerned about the attractiveness of girls at that time. There are also two girls' ex-boyfriends, although only one of them was interviewed by us, but also asked to withhold their real names. He told me that at that time, like other boys, although he was also familiar with and loved "306" because of a "Contra" adaptation, he also felt that this love was more related to youth.
"You mean, a male liking for women. ”
He was a little embarrassed and told me not to write his name.
According to my survey of the employment situation of students at that time and the employment direction of the 12 girls of "306", I have no doubt that if it were not for this song "It's Us", they would be just a forgotten legend in the school, just like other student clubs. I also had a small band when I was younger, and I also participated in choirs and South American music lovers' organizations, but they all ended up in a very few people, such as me, a music magazine reporter, who chose a more successful direction.
"I think no matter what assumptions I make, I'll still love the flute. Chai Litian disagreed. Of course, she has such confidence, as the most famous and recognized flute player in China, she is not only known as a member of the "306" team. At the Puhai Conservatory of Music, a studio named after her has been opened, which has become an important base for Chinese dizi education.
"But I think that no matter how high the estimation of Yang Jingxing's significance, there will be no mistake. Her addition speaks for itself. But she added: "It's not just about the musical composition. ”
Yang smiled solemnly at the side.
I was keenly aware of his emotions, which seemed to be a kind of memory, and also seemed to be an expectation. Perhaps this work and this band have a very special meaning for him.
Since he is also silent about this, we can only find the most authentic answer in music.
The play button is pressed.
The music played, it was the presentation part, and no matter how many times I listened to it, I would be as quickly immersed as the first time.
(Too powerful, Sasha)
