Chapter 355: A Brief Discussion on Fahai

()

There is a flood of film and television works about Jigong, such as Shenma's "Jigong", "Jigong's Travels", "Jigong's New Biography", "Jigong's Old Biography", as well as left and right biography, etc., all of which promote Jigong as a positive character.

Has anyone ever thought about why Jigong's fame would be so big? If it weren't for the existence of Jigong's good rouge girl when he was a child, would we still be so fond of Jigong?

If the reason why Jigong is so famous is because he is a strong person and a living Buddha, it is a bit unsatisfactory. There are many enlightened monks in the realm of Elysium in the West Heaven, such as Sakyamuni, Guanyin, Eighteen Arhats, etc., and I have not seen anyone with a reputation of Jigong.

Similarly, the reason why Jigong is famous is because of a woman, who is a rouge girl. Whether you admit it or not, that's the truth, it's the rouge girl who fulfilled Jigong.

It can be seen that Fahai and Jigong's lives have become colorful because of women, which is also one of the similarities between the two of them.

In terms of fame, Fahai was thrown off eight major roads by Jigong. Putting aside some miscellaneous negative news, Fahai's Buddhist attainments are no worse than Ji Gong's. Jigong is a living Buddha, and so is Fahai. Jigong is the fifty ancestors of Zen Buddhism, who ascended to heaven, and Fahai is the first ancestor of Baoshan Zen Temple, and also ascended to heaven after attaining the Tao. Jigong came from the Li family, a famous family, a wealthy family, Fahai's family is no worse than Jigong, and he is the son of Pei Xiu, the prime minister of the Tang Dynasty.

A cursory glance shows that Jigong and Fahai really have a lot of similarities. More coincidentally, the story of Fahai and Bai Suzhen took place in the Shaoxing period of the Southern Song Dynasty, and Jigong was also born at this time, both in Zhejiang Province. I can't figure it out, Fahai and Jigong still met.

But Fahai was a person during the Tang Dynasty, how did he "travel" to the Southern Song Dynasty hundreds of years later?

Well, see below.

What kind of person is the Fahai monk in history? Is it really that bad?

In today's films, television and literary works, the moral bottom line has been broken again and again, if not for anything else, just to attract the attention of the audience. For example, in the "Anti-Oriental Drama", which has been very popular in recent years, one person stabbed to death a big scoop of Oriental devils with only a big knife, and the whole thing is invincible.

Entertainment has no bottom line, let's think this is understandable, after all, today's society is advancing with the times, and the audience's tastes are getting heavier and heavier.

Fahai and Jigong are both from famous families, and Fahai's family is even more prominent than Jigong's Li family. In today's words, Jigong and Fahai are both officials of the N generation, and they envy others. But these two official N generations, the most of them became monks, which is really puzzling. Fortunately, the two of them were born in ancient times, if it is modern, maybe they are two gentlemen who bully men and women, then we will have two less monks in China.

Zen Master Fahai is the son of Pei Xiu, a famous minister in the Tang Dynasty, and his common name is Pei Wende, which means both culture and morality.

Pei Xiu, the father of Fahai, was the prime minister of the dynasty, the word Gongmei, and a native of Pei Village, Jiyuan in the Tang Dynasty. The Pei family has been worshipping Buddhism for generations, and when Pei Xiu was the prime minister, he studied the tenets of various sects of Buddhism at that time. In the history of Zen Buddhism, Pei Xiu has the same important status as contemporary laymen such as Pang Yun, Bai Letian, Li Ao, and Lu Gan.

Pei Xiu is a jinshi, it is not clear whether he is a list or a tanhua, anyway, he is not a champion. Pei Xiu's son Pei Wende, who later became Fahai, was even more incredible, he won the champion at a young age, more powerful than his father, and the emperor named him Hanlin. But Pei Xiu didn't want his son to be a young man, so he personally sent him into the Buddhist gate to become a monk, and made a "warning policy", exhorting his son to be diligent and diligent, and not to waste a good time.

Pei Xiu's approach is indeed a bit unbelievable and confusing. Other people's children are eager to have ambition in their mother's womb, Pei Xiu is good, he doesn't want his son to be ambitious.

Could it be that there is something bad about the ambition of young people? Or did Pei Xiu see through the deceit of officialdom and didn't want his son to be in it?

According to current scholars, Pei Xiu's starting point is the latter. Pei Xiu is a devout believer in Buddhism, and in his opinion, Buddhism is the most pure land in the world.

But that doesn't make sense. In ancient times, there were three unfilial pieties, and no queen was the largest. Pei Xiu sent his son to the temple to be a monk, wouldn't that cut off the Pei family's incense? Aren't you afraid that the old ancestor will not be able to rest in peace above the nine heavens?

This issue will not be discussed in this article, and interested readers can delve into it.

Pei Wende was admitted to the top prize and was named Hanlin by the Yellow Emperor, and it was estimated that the official position was not yet hot, and he was sent out of the house by his father Pei Xiu. Pei Xiu personally sent his son to Weishan in a certain plot in the south of the Yangtze River to practice, and worshiped at the feet of "Lingyou Zen Master", the founder of the Zen Gate Weiyang Sect at that time, as a disciple. Pei Wende was given the Dharma name "Fahai" when he was shaved, and he was known as Fahai Zen Master.

After shaving, Master Fahai Lingyou ordered him to do asceticism every day, chopping firewood for the temple for nearly three years, and transporting domestic water for more than 500 monks in the temple for nearly three years.

After the successful completion of the ascetic life on the list of Fahai Zen Master, the whole person was also a little reborn, faded away from the youthfulness, faded away from the cheesiness.

Marx, the great philosopher of modern times, said that labor is the essence of human beings, which not only distinguishes man from animals, but also exalts man from the natural world. Now it seems that Marx's "theory of labor" should be added to add another article, that labor can free people from the "red dust".

After the asceticism, Zen Master Fahai began another three years of retreat. All kinds of labor are put down by Fahai, and he is dedicated to Zen. At the end of the three-year period, the doors and windows of Fahai's retreat were closed, and Master Lingyou personally went to the gate to call the name of "Fahai", and Fahai Zen Master came out in response to the sound in the pass, and the doors and windows of the retreat were not damaged, which was a sign of perfection and enlightenment. As a result, Zen Master Fahai became a monk who attained the Tao for more than ten years.

Ten years can become a Taoist monk, ordinary monks dare not think of it, most monks may not be able to attain the Tao in their lifetime.

Didn't Jigong attain enlightenment at one time? It only took one night.

Jigong is an outlier, who made him the reincarnation of the Dragon Descending Arhat.

It can be seen that Fahai is not an ordinary person, and he was born with Buddhist wisdom.

When Zen Master Fahai came out, the door was closed, but they came out without opening the door.

Could it be that Zen Master Fahai can penetrate the wall?

Well, there should be such a thing. As mentioned earlier, a yoga master who can pass through the wall in the Three Kingdoms, and the process of Fahai Zen Master passing through the wall should be similar to him.

After the end of Fahai's retreat, his skills increased dramatically, and his cultivation was not even under his master, Lingyu.

On the first day of Fahai's exit, I had a chat with my master, Zen Master Lingyu, for a night.

(I'm going to spend three or two chapters writing about some of Fahai's deeds, subverting everyone's understanding of Fahai, mainly to draw out Fahai's disciple Sun Fayin Zen Master.) And the Fayin Zen Master has a great relationship with the spirit snake girl and the little white fox. There may be a bit of a plot about Fahai in later chapters. Lao Bi bragged that he always typed the draft first, whether you like it or not, whether you say that I am verbose, I have to "type the draft". As long as I type a draft, if I can use it later, I can use it casually to facilitate writing. )
