147 The Righteous Sea is Heroic
Hugo has always been recalling the events between his predecessor and Tracy in his mind, trying to depict the truth of the beginning, but unfortunately there is still no idea, and the opening of the movie with the 'female' god holding the torch high in Columbia's graduation film has cut in, so that Hugo has to focus on the big screen.
The experience of filming "The Heroes of the Righteous Sea" was a pleasure for Hugo, and the breakthrough in acting skills can be called the biggest gain, and Hugo was also very curious about what kind of effect the breakthrough he felt would be on the big screen - was it his own illusion or reality.
At the beginning of the movie, the case of the dark moon and the wind on the night attracts everyone's attention, two soldiers break into a room, gagged another soldier with a rag, and then tied him up, apparently with bad intentions. In the frightened eyes of the victim soldiers, the movie begins.
In Washington, D.C., at the Office of the Attorney General, Major Joanne Galloway, dressed in military uniform, reported to the chief a criminal case that occurred in Cuba where Corporal Harold Dawson and Private Louden Doney entered the barracks of Private First Class William San Diego and beat him. An hour later, Santiago died at the base hospital. After an investigation, investigators believe that Dawson and Dhoni were trying to stop San Diego from reporting Dawson's illegal shooting at the line, and the hearing is about to take place.
In such a case that seemed unquestionable, Major Galloway suspected that it was a "red 'color' rule", so she asked for a lawyer to be assigned to the case, and she volunteered to be Dawson and Dhoni's defense lawyer. Unfortunately, the Commander thinks that Major Galloway would be a 'good' investigator, but not a lawyer. So, the division assigned a lawyer for the case: Daniel Caffey.
Cafe - that is, Hugo appeared on the big screen, wearing a "base" ball costume and a "base" cap, and was doing the practice of hitting and catching the "base" ball, Kefei was definitely a master negotiator, he argued with the defense lawyer while playing "baseball", and easily fought for the maximum rights of his defendant, from 30 days in prison to 15 days of limited punishment.
Although Coffey is a very 'good' lawyer, he has successfully handled forty-four cases in nine months in the Navy, but his work attitude is obviously unsatisfactory, he is cynical, he joined the Navy because of his father's prestige and pressure, he is not only late for meetings but also never brings a pen, eats apples when he meets his superiors, his enthusiasm for 'baseball' is obviously more than lawsuits, maybe he has quick thinking and 'colorful' eloquence, he is a good lawyer, but he is not a competent lawyer.
In his opinion, if the case needs to go to court, they need not a lawyer but a pastor, and in his opinion, the duty of a lawyer is not to do justice, but to solve the problem for the client before going to court with minimal cost. And as Kefei's assistant, Sam Weinberg is in charge of the "copywriting work", and he doesn't want to take any responsibility and just provide basic help to Kefei.
Cafe only listened to Galloway's description of the case, and Santiago, who had always been very bad in the army, believed that he had a serious physical illness, and he wrote letters to various departments to ask for help in order to transfer out of the base, but unfortunately he was lost, and finally Santiago wrote to the Naval Investigation Department that he could use the evidence of Dawson's illegal shooting abroad in exchange for the right to be transferred.
Upon learning of this, Cafe made a judgment that the case would most likely expose the disgrace of Guantanamo and embarrass the security of the members, including Colonel Nathan Jessup, and concluded, "I will seek a sentence of 12 years for conspiracy and misconduct." ā
In Kaffey's view, this is the best choice for Dawson and Dhony, but his attitude makes Galloway very dissatisfied, and even the defendant has arrived in Washington, D.C., and Kaffey is still practicing 'baseball', which completely "angered" Galloway, she once had the idea of asking the division to 'hand' over to change the lawyer, because she firmly believed that Dawson and Dhoney were innocent, and she hoped that a lawyer could stand up and give them a clean slate, but obviously Cairey was not the best choice.
Galloway believed that Dawson and Dhoni had no motive and that the cause of Santiago's death was a catastrophic one, and that the medical examiner could not determine the cause of death within two hours of Santiago's death, but after another two hours, the medical examiner concluded that Santiago had died of poisoning. Galloway suspects this is a case of red statutes, and the funny thing is that Cafe has no idea what a red statute is.
The incident goes back to the time when Santiago wrote to the Naval Investigation Service, and the matter was naturally known to the military commanders, and Colonel Jessup was furious about it, because in his opinion, Santiago was not only an incompetent navy, but he also betrayed his own teammates, overstepped his superiors to report his teammates, and tried to expose the disgraceful and bad things within their army. In an army where obedience to orders is the first rule, this is unforgivable.
Lieutenant Colonel Marginson argues that Santiago should be transferred from the base, not only because Santiago's request should be answered, but also because his military colleagues will not spare him if Santiago's betrayal of his teammates is revealed.
But Colonel Jessup and Lieutenant Kendrick did not think so, Jessup thought that the transfer of Santiago was a cowardly act to avoid the problem, and he felt that the training of Santiago should be increased to meet the standards of the army, and that the internal affairs of the army must be solved by military means, which is necessary in order to achieve the purpose of protecting the country. And Lieutenant Kendrick was a big fan of the colonel.
On the other hand, Dawson and Dhoni arrived in Washington, D.C., and apparently, neither soldier understood the severity of the matter, and Dhoni even admired his arrival in the capital with excited eyes. They didn't know where they were, they didn't even know why they were arrested, and they thought that the qiÄ was just following orders.
When Kefei arrived at the inquiry room, he was very uncomfortable when he saw the two soldiers who were meticulously following orders, but he still patiently asked his question, "What is the red 'color' rule?" ā
"It's a discipline of admonition." Dawson replied without squinting, "If there are Marines left behind, you can use this to help them keep up with the team." ā
"What exactly is the 'flower' of the red 'color' regulations?" Kefei still doesn't quite understand the internal affairs of these armies. "Explain what the white dots, the red 'color' statute means."
"Sir," Dawson insisted, even though Caffey stressed three times not to call him Sir, "for example, if a player refuses to take a shower according to the rules, his teammates will give him a military bath - with a brush, a wire brush." ā
"Does San Diego also accept red 'color' regulations?" Kefei asked.
"Yes, sir." Dawson replied in the affirmative.
And Kefi then asked Dhoni for some details, Dhoni did not apply any poison or 'medicine' to the rag, they were just going to shave Santiago's head, but suddenly Santiago began to bleed from the mouth, so they called an ambulance, but unfortunately no one saw them calling, and when the ambulance came, they had already been arrested.
Under questioning by Weinberg, Dawson admitted that he had fired a shot at the Cuban border on 2 August because he had seen suspicious actions at his corresponding Cuban outpost. And the reason why he will enforce the red 'color' regulations against Santiago is not because Santiago wants to report him, but because Santiago has overstepped his actions, he has left his detachment, and if there is a problem, he should first report it to his superiors, and then go up the layer. He enforced the red 'color' law only in the hope of educating San Diego to think about the collective and respect the order before acting.
"Detachment, army, God, country." This is the order of the Marine Corps.
Prosecution lawyer Jack Rose, an old friend of Keffey, offered the prosecution's condition that they would only be sentenced to twenty years in prison as long as they pleaded guilty. But Cafe refused, and he only accepted twelve years in prison - both Cafe and Weinberg found Dawson and Dhoni guilty and only tried to reduce their sentences, and Weinberg even thought that the two soldiers should spend the rest of their lives in prison.
When Cafe brought the red 'color' statute to Rose, Rose first approved the "twelve years" sentence, and then reminded his friends, "Lieutenant Jonathan Kendrick gathered his men and specifically instructed them not to touch San Diego." Although Ross had agreed to Kefei's punishment, Kefei was reluctant to nod his head at the moment, he sensed that there seemed to be something hidden in this, and something was wrong, so Cafee decided to go to Guantanamo and come back to make a decision.
At the same time, Galloway was authorized by Aunt Doni to become Dhoni's agent, joining Cafi and Weinberg on their way to Guantanamo, Cuba.
Considering that Cuba was too hot, in order to avoid the dark 'colored' clothes absorbing the heat, Weinberg built YƬ Keffey, and they went to Guantanamo in white 'color' uniforms. It's best to wear 'camouflage' here, because in Cuba, officers in white 'color' uniforms will think they are important people, and it's easy to make them targets.
Such a lack of common sense was naturally very disdainful in the eyes of Colonel Jessup. The official meeting between Keffey and Jessup seems to be a bit of a fire 'medicine'. Jessup, who knew Caffey's father, said to Lieutenant Kendrick, "His father offended a lot of people in your hometown, Jefferson and Madison area schools had a lawsuit, the locals objected to a black 'girl' going to a white school, and Lionel Caffey said, 'We'll wait and see.'" Listening to Jessup's tone, he obviously looked down on Kefei's father's actions, and felt that the other party was just full of food and nothing to do.
Under the leadership of Lieutenant Kendrick, Coffey and others inspected the scene of the crime in detail, learned about the timeline of the development of the incident again, and learned about Kendrick's meeting of "forbidden to touch Santiago", and also deeply experienced Kendrick's contempt for Santiago's death.
In addition, Caffey was surprised to learn that Jessup actually signed the transfer order of San Diego and left the base on the first flight to the United States at 6 a.m. the next day, but unfortunately, Santiago was not able to wait for the sun the next day.
But Galloway clings to the red 'color' regulations, because in February this year Jessup received a memorandum from the commander-in-chief prohibiting Jessup from continuing to use the red 'color' regulations, which obviously 'provoked' Jessup, "Three hundred yards away from my breakfast, there are 4,000 well-trained Cubans who want to kill me, so don't think you can show off your power here!" He gave Galloway a dismount so hard that Galloway was speechless, barely speechless.
Before leaving, Coffey asked Jessup to show a copy of the transfer order, which again 'provoked' Jessup, "You know what? Danny, I can handle the bullets, I don't need money, I don't need medals, I want you to stand there in a sissy white 'colored' uniform, and give me a damn respect with your Harvard-trained mouth. You have to politely make a request to me! ā
Cafee was a little suspicious, but politely spoke up again to make his request, this time with Jesup answering in the affirmative.
