Chapter 6: Riots
Li Po lay quietly in the grass, spying on the scene not far away.
This is a valley, and the piles of bonfires in the valley emit a warm glow, and by the way, the smell of food is sent far away.
Li Po was extraordinarily sure that he had come to the edge of the mountains and forests, not far from the world outside the mountains.
Ever since he encountered those Turks, Li Po had never eaten a mouthful of hot food or drunk a sip of hot water.
The weather in the mountains and forests is getting colder and colder day by day, and the sky is gradually covered with clouds, and a heavy snow is about to fall, which also forces Li Po to speed up the pace of walking out of the mountains and forests.
The direction is very good, to the west, it is likely to reach the banks of the Yellow River, and to the east, there are the two counties of Saimayi or Yanmen, the northern border of the Great Sui.
Li Po chose to go east, because the distance was likely to be closer.
Now, everything in the valley indicates that he may soon be able to get out of this mountain and forest land.
Because the people who lit the campfires in the valley were dressed more neatly, and it was clear that they had just entered the mountains.
There are many of them, and life in the mountains and forests has not left too many traces on them.
Of course, there is no doubt that this is also a group of displaced people.
It was no different from those homeless people who entered the mountains, and from the faint sound of words, Li Po quickly understood that they were also avoiding heavy labor, and had to choose to hide in the mountains.
Li Po silently studied their tones and prepared to walk out of the mountains and forests.
Originally, he also planned to blend in and inquire into the situation outside in detail, these homeless people are not very dangerous, because they have not been in the mountains for a long time, and they still have moral and ethical constraints.
But soon, he dismissed the idea.
Under the swaying firelight, the oppressive atmosphere made Li Po keenly aware of the smell of danger.
Dozens of people, most likely from the same place, but no matter how they dressed, how they behaved, and even what they ate, they were divided into two large groups.
Some were in the middle, the campfires were larger, as if there were slaves running around, their supper was more elaborate, and even the smell of wine came.
Some people outside, dressed in tattered clothes, silently gnawed on dry food, and the cries of women and children, accompanied by the rude beating and scolding of men, were endless.
It's like two worlds close together.
This extreme injustice is a source of danger.
Several northern men gathered not far from Li Po, muttering a few words from time to time around a bonfire, and occasionally they would turn their heads to look at those people not far away, their eyes flashing with envy and hatred.
Li Po believes that it won't be long before he witnesses a riot in the next moment.
This is not uncommon among displaced people.
There is also a difference between the rich and the poor, as well as between the beautiful and the ugly, and many tragedies have also been staged.
Li Po didn't know what the general trend of the world was, and he had no intention of investigating the root cause of the people fleeing into the mountains, he simply reversed the process from the results.
Speaking of which, he has not been in the mountains for a long time, but encountering so many homeless people in the mountains and forests can only mean that the powerful Great Sui in the mouths of the three old soldiers is already in turmoil.
These displaced people are likely to eventually become bandits in the mountains and forests, so the world outside the mountains is not beautiful.
However, like any bystander, he witnessed all this with cold eyes, and did not intend to or have the ability to change anything.
Late at night, Li Po curled up in a ball, fighting against the cold of the mountains.
He was going to stay here for a few days, and he needed a guide, and he would spend the rest of his time carefully picking one of the lucky ones among the homeless people......
His gaze did not stop at the poor people on the periphery, he stared at the group of people in the middle.
Because they seem to be living in abundance, they will surely have a lot of knowledge.
He needs to know whether the household registration check outside is strict, whether he will be caught as a man as soon as he goes out, whether the chaos outside really can't survive, where people live, and so on.
Apparently, though, someone can't wait.
Li Po suddenly woke up, there were still embers left in the bonfire in the valley, and someone was already clamoring.
The men not far from him were all shouting and screaming something.
It can be heard from the voices that they all have a flame hidden in their hearts, just waiting to vent it and burn others or themselves to ashes.
Li Po stood up helplessly, slowly moving his hands and feet, thinking about whether he should leave this messy place.
As he predicted, in a difficult environment, people don't think about working together to get through the difficulties, but instead compete for as many resources as possible.
This is the human heart, and where there are more people, the more so.
It's just that what he didn't expect was that from these displaced people who were about to riot, a leader would soon be born.
A big man, with his front open and his strong chest exposed, shouted loudly, and some people around him responded from time to time, and soon won the support of the majority.
Reckless heroes are born at the right time, and they are like this in troubled times, so there is no need to repeat them.
Li Po didn't know if the same drama was being staged in other places in the mountains, but what he saw in front of him was the whole process of the birth of a bandit, that is, a peasant uprising in the usual sense.
It doesn't take long for this process to move on to the next stage.
The killing came as scheduled, and the victims of the riot were a different group of people.
The shouts of killing completely plunged this secluded canyon into chaos, women and children cried helplessly to escape, and adult men, picking up everything they could pick up, and fighting.
Li Po soon smelled a thick bloody smell.
He watched all this motionlessly, and no one ran past him, no longer noticing him lying in the grass.
The riot came to an end at dawn, and there was no doubt that the more outnumbered side emerged victorious.
In this way, it is also time for them to enjoy the spoils of war.
This was also the root of Li Po's dislike for the so-called peasant uprising for many years afterward.
A group of twisted people, with twisted expressions, doing twisted things.
Before, they carried out a killing in order to survive, or for the injustice they suffered, which in Li Po's view, is understandable.
But then, everything they do has nothing to do with it.
They became greedy and violent, and because they had a temporary leader, they were somewhat restrained, but ...... The distribution of property, such a project as a woman, is essential.
They squander everything wantonly and irrationally, regardless of the fact that winter is coming, and they need more manpower and material resources to ensure their survival.
When the conspicuous strong man grabbed the two crying women and went into the woods with a beating and scolding, his helper was also satisfied and was about to enjoy the spoils of war.
Li Po frowned in disgust and left quietly.
Plunder, a bunch of crazy beasts, maybe they will eventually calm down, but Li Po has no interest in wasting time here again.
He chose to continue his journey to the southeast, but soon he noticed that an extra tail came out behind him.
