Chapter 646: Air Force (I)
A new day in Bucharest began, and Ancra said goodbye to his family after breakfast, and got into a special car and drove to the War Department.
Before he got to the War Department, though, Ankdra's work began in the car.
"Dolph, what else do I have to do today?"
Ankedra, who was sitting in the back row, asked the secretary in the front row.
Dolph, the secretary, told with the itinerary. "General, this morning you will need to chair a meeting on the expansion of the reserve pilots, in the afternoon you will have to discuss the progress of the development of the new aircraft with Colonel Troll of the Technical Equipment Division, and in addition to talking with the National Power Laboratory about antifreeze."
The secretary's words gave Ancrera a preliminary understanding of today's itinerary.
"Dolph, remember to remind me in the afternoon, today is the twenty-first wedding anniversary of my wife Linda, and I will buy him a bouquet of roses then."
"Okay, General."
The secretary picked up the pen and recorded it rustling.
Lieutenant General Ankdra was the head of the Army Aviation Corps, commanding nearly a thousand aircraft on and off the Army Aviation. And he always had a wish in his heart, that is, to separate the air force of the navy and the army and form a new branch of the Romanian Air Force. For this reason, he wrote many times to his Majesty to support the formation of the Air Force, but for various reasons it could not be done.
In fact, the Romanian Air Force was established very early in history, in 1913, before the outbreak of World War I.
Unlike in history, the current Romanian Air Force was divided between the army and the navy. On the one hand, Romania needed to join World War I, so it was not separated for the sake of facilitating the command of operations and allowing the air force to better cooperate with ground operations.
On the other hand, after World War I, the army worked hard and made great achievements, and the expansion of the navy squeezed the proportion of the army's military spending. If the Air Force continues to be separated, the Army's share of funding will be further reduced, which will increase the Army's dissatisfaction. So Ankdra's wish has never been realized.
In the blink of an eye, the car drove to the War Department, and after being cleared by the guards, the car came to the front of the building.
The War Department is a concave building, and the command structure of the aviation forces is located in the building on the left. It consists of eight departments: Operations, Organization, Training, Mobilization, Intelligence, Logistics, War History, and Personnel.
In contrast to the fact that many of the powers of the War Department were usurped by the General Staff, the Army Aviation still has sufficient control over its authority because of its professionalism and independence. This can even arouse the envy of the Minister of War, Admiral Salamik, who has no way to let his predecessor, Marshal Preshan, leave things alone, and put on a powerful chief of the General Staff.
By the time Ankdra walked into the room, a large number of papers that needed to be processed were piled up in front of him. All of them are reports on the development of new fighters, reports on the Third Air Force's application for increased training, and so on.
Andrera, on the other hand, needs to read each report carefully and comment on it. And just as he was working without sleep or food, there was a knock on the door.
"Come in."
With Ankdra's greeting, Secretary Dolph walked in with a strange expression.
Ancrera didn't care about that, he looked at the clock and couldn't help but say nothing. "Isn't it time for a meeting yet? Dolph, what's wrong with you? ”
It was obvious that Ankdra had only noticed a little difference in the secretary's expression at this time.
"General, I just received a call from the palace, and Your Majesty wants you to go."
Ankedra's words surprised Ankdra.
"What, Your Majesty summons."
Looking at the confirmed secretary who nodded, Ankdra fell into deep thought. Could it be that the report I have submitted many times has finally come to fruition, but I don't know if it is a blessing or a curse.
"You bring me the reports I made earlier, and you let General Morkov do the work for today's meeting."
Ankdra, who was in a complicated mood, instructed the secretary while simulating in his mind what he needed to say to His Majesty. When he met His Majesty this time, he had already passed many times in his heart. I always thought about it when I didn't meet His Majesty before, but when I came, I was a little timid.
When a restless Ankerra meets Eder under the guidance of the guards, he finds several reports he had submitted on the table. And in the hands of His Majesty, he also holds a report on the future of aviation that he has made within the Army Airlines.
Edel put down his report and looked at Lieutenant General Ankdra, who looked nervous. "I heard you went to Italy to see Duhey in person?"
As for Ederra's homely words, Ankdra said truthfully. "Yes, Your Majesty. Previously, in 1925, I led a team to Italy for military exchanges, and I specially visited Duhei, and talked with him about many books such as air supremacy. ”
"Do you think Du Hei's theory is correct?"
Ankdra knew that his answer was extremely critical at this time, but luckily he had already done his homework. "Your Majesty, what should I say? His theory is also correct. ”
Edel was intrigued when he heard this. "Then tell me."
Ancrera said, sorting out her words. "Your Majesty, this is correct regarding the importance of the Air Force in Duhei's theory. Because in the future, the air force will be an indispensable military force for every country. With air supremacy, it is possible to restrict the combat activities of the enemy's air and air defense forces. It is necessary to ensure the freedom of action of our own air forces, so that the combat operations of the army and navy can be effectively covered by the air, and the important targets of the country will not be seriously endangered by the enemy's air forces. ”
And he is incorrect because the theory that the air force alone can bring the enemy to its knees is somewhat out of reality. So I debated it with Duhei, but in general neither of us convinced anyone. ”
Edel continued to ask after listening to Ankdra's account. "So what do you think the establishment of an independent air force should look like?"
Ankdra, who was ecstatic in his heart, said with excitement. "Your Majesty, at present, the task of our aviation forces is mainly to ensure our airspace and cooperate with the operations of the navy and army, and of course it is also one of the main tasks in the future. But this should not be the only task of the future Air Force, I think that the future Air Force, in addition to guaranteeing these targets, should have the responsibility of bombing enemy cities, paralyzing its communications, as well as sending airborne troops to occupy its key points. ”
What Ankdra said is also the experience he has learned over the years, because bombing enemy rears not only reduces his will to fight, but also slows down the enemy's actions.
And the prototype of the Airborne Forces was born during the First World War, when two soldiers jumped off the wing of a biplane and carried part of the explosives to blow up enemy warehouses, which caused a sensation at the time.
In 1927, the Soviet army used transport planes to airdrop troops in Central Asia, annihilating the rebels such as the Batu Massachusetts in one fell swoop, which was the first airborne war in the true sense.
In 1930, the Soviet Airborne Forces officially established the world's first full-fledged paratrooper unit.
Romania, as an old rival of the Soviet Union, naturally will not lag behind, and at present Romania has established the First Parachute Regiment, which is divided into three brigades (battalion level), each with three squadrons, and each squadron with three squads. There are 1,835 officers and men in the regiment, and it is still experimental in nature.
And Ankdra clearly intends to pull it into the air force that may be formed.
And Ankedra's little bit of caution, where would Eder not know. However, the establishment of the Air Force has indeed become an urgent matter, because the various types of aircraft currently under development are seriously affected by the Army. For example, fighter jets responsible for seizing air supremacy, and dive bombers specializing in ground attack are the most adequately funded. Twin-engine bombers and transport aircraft were secondary, while four-engine bombers, which had little to do with the Army, were the least expensive to develop.
As for the Navy, it is currently mainly responsible for the development of carrier-based aircraft, as well as seaplanes.
So in the face of this situation, Eder also realized that there was no separate air force, and the phenomenon of aircraft deviation could not be cured. That's why the head of the army aviation, Ankedra, was recruited. And rather than talking about it, its vision of the future air force is also in line with Eder's expectations.
In the future, the Romanian Air Force cannot become a vassal of the Navy and Army, it should have its own goals. Of course, it is impossible for the Air Force to spend as much as the Navy and the Army, but at least it can lay the foundation for the future.
However, the thought of having to face opposition from both the army and the navy also gave Eder a bit of a headache. But fortunately, the huge expansion funds of the previous Navy and Land Generals are believed to be able to ease their mouths in this regard.
