Chapter 398: Treaty of Trianon

The situation in Hungary became increasingly clear after Romania defeated the People's Army and seized Budapest, and the fate of the Hungarian Communist Party was already sealed when the Allied troops arrived in Hungary after the belated arrival of the Entente troops.

Although the KPA used this time to strengthen its army, it also sent troops to seize the Snowoak area and drive the Czech troops in the area back to Prague. But in the face of the intervention forces organized by the multinational coalition, the Soviet government in Zell was now at the end of the road.

The Romanian intervention army, commanded by General Salamik, a member of the Entente, also sent 60,000 troops to participate in the final blow to the Hungarian Soviet government.

and the French general Louis, who served as the Supreme Commander of the Entente in Hungary. Marshal Despere, too, knows how to measure. The Romanian army, which had worked hard, did not have any important tasks, but put them in charge of intercepting the possible escape of the Hungarian Communists.

Marshal Despére was also an old acquaintance of the Romanian military, a representative of France's more famous offensive approach. In the Western Front to resist the German invasion, the performance was quite good. However, in the later struggle for the post of commander-in-chief of the French army, Joseph Chauffeur was defeated, and Robert Nivelle was defeated.

Later, one of the conditions for Romania to enter the war was that the Entente would contain the Bulgarian army in Macedonia. So Paris sent Marshal Despere to Macedonia to take unified command of the Allied forces in the region. So for the Romanian army, Marshal Despere was quite familiar.

Outside the city of Zell, the Allied troops of France, the United States, Serbia and other countries surrounded the last city of the Hungarian Communist Party. Among these armies was an army with a Hungarian tricolor.

True, the Hungarian Republican Army took part in this final blow to the communist regime. As a republican regime that had just moved from Kaposburg to Budapest, it certainly would not let go of these red elements. In order to show its attitude to the civilized world, this republican army under the command of Admiral Horty, of course, must show its face here.

In order to gain the support of the Entente and to be able to return to Budapest, the Caroli regime certainly had no room to reciprocate the demands of the Entente. When the Allied armies came to help put down the rebellion, Caroli could not ignore the importance, otherwise they would be pacified as rebels.

Therefore, the Caroli government also hated the Hungarian Communist Party led by Béla Kuhn. It was these red elements who left Hungary with no room for maneuver, it was they who caused Hungary to suffer what it is now, and it was they who divided the Hungarian people into different countries. Everything is the fault of these red elements, and they and others have to make this decision against their will just to save the country.

Sometimes I have to say that Ah Q's spiritual victory method still has some effect. Although it is the same as reparations and land cession, putting on the cloak of saving the people of the country is like putting a layer of syrup on rotten fruit, at least barely swallowing.

Therefore, after the capture of Zell, the Hungarian republican government had to send people to negotiate a treaty of defeat with the Entente. Despite this, however, the Hungarian republican government still fancied that through President Wilson, Hungary would be able to reduce its losses. To this end, its Foreign Minister, Kordamik, approached US President Wilson and asked him for the United States to intercede and reduce part of the Hungarian territory and reparations that had been ceded to other countries.

For Wilson, who can make the United States stand on the moral high ground and accuse Britain and France, and is deeply furious in his heart, of course he will not refuse. For this reason, at the beginning of the negotiations, he accused Britain and France of not negotiating for peace, but of creating new points of conflict in the region.

As soon as President Wilson's box was opened, he criticized Britain and France on various problems. It slowly expanded from Hungary to all of Europe. And he vented his dissatisfaction with the Paris Peace Conference, and the Minister Kordamic and other delegates were stunned.

Is it just that this call is useful? From a personal point of view, it was useful, and it made President Wilson feel a lot less angry, at least for his own health.

From a national point of view, this is of little use. I didn't see Prime Minister George and Prime Minister Clemenceau both smiling at him, and even His Excellency the Prime Minister accidentally yawned. This made other delegates suspicious of the influence of the United States, represented by President Wilson, on Europe.

In fact, President Wilson was also confused by this, and the United States did make money from this war, and it was quite a bit. It's just that for the penetration of European influence, it is really quite helpless. The image built up by Britain and France over hundreds of years will not collapse overnight, and the perception of Britain and France in various countries has not changed much. It's just that I know a lot about the image of the United States, but the United States is still separated by an Atlantic Ocean, which is indeed a little farther away.

The outcome of the final negotiations confirmed the delegates' predictions for President Wilson.

After more than ten days of discussions, a peace treaty was finally signed at the Grand Trianon in Versailles, Hungary and the Entente. As in history, it is known as the Treaty of Trianon, the main provisions of which are as follows.

Article 1; With immediate effect, the countries and Hungary will cease a series of hostile acts such as war.

Article 2; Austria-Hungary, as the initiator of the war, had an inescapable responsibility for the war, and the Hungarian government, as one of the successors of Austria-Hungary, had to be punished.

territorial penalties; Hungary ceded Slovakia to the Czech Republic. Most of Burgenland belongs to Austria. Transylvania and east of the Tissa River, as well as eastern Carpathian Mountains, Rothenia were assigned to Romania. Croatia and the western part of Banat were assigned to the Kingdom of Serbia.

At the same time, the Danube, as the main river of many countries in the region, will also be jointly managed by the international community.

On the military front, military service is universal, and the size of its army is limited to 38,000 men.

Economically, Hungary, as the initiator of the war, would receive 2.2 billion francs in war reparations. Half of this is reparations to Serbia, and the rest is divided among other countries.

After the treaty was signed, Hungary lost 78% of its land area and its population fell significantly from 20.8 million to 7.4 million.

More than 1,000 Hungarians were also assigned to other countries with the signing of this treaty. It's just that I don't know if these people, who were used to being masters in the Austro-Hungarian Empire, can endure the scene of other nationalities turning over into serfs and singing. Only this time there was no Austro-Hungarian Empire to support them.
