Chapter 1144: Meeting Tsongkhapa (1)

"Poor monk Losang Drakpa, meet His Majesty the Emperor of the Ming Dynasty." At this time, in the main hall of King Su's mansion, a man wearing a yellow hat and a yellow monk's robe, looking to be in his forties, with a dignified demeanor, stood in the center, facing a man in his twenties in front of him and bowed and saluted.

This person is none other than the founder of the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism, one of the most important masters in the history of Tibetan Buddhism, and the master Tsongkhapa, who taught many excellent disciples. Because he was born in Tsongkha, the devotees call him Tsongkhapa.

Yun Xi was slightly surprised when he saw him. 'He's only in his 40s this year, can he make such a big name?' More than a lot of long-established masters? ’

Yun Xi was puzzled for a moment, but quickly calmed down. He has already sent someone to check, it is indeed the Yellow Sect he founded, and now it has a great reputation in Tibet, although it looks younger, but it can only be said that people are really talented.

"The poor monk Luosang Drakpa, I have seen Concubine Da Ming Chen." When Yun Xi was thinking, he saluted Xu Miaojin again.

"Lama Tsongkhapa doesn't have to be polite, please get up." Yun Xi came back to his senses and said. After Tsongkhapaping was gone, he asked Wang Gong to bring him a chair for him to sit down. Tsongkhapa bowed again and sat down in his chair.

"Lama Tsongkhapa, it's been a long time. I had heard of the Master's name four years ago, and I had always wanted to meet him, but I didn't want to see him today. Yun Xi smiled.

"His Majesty the Emperor of the Ming Dynasty, three years ago, His Majesty sent someone to summon the poor monk to the capital of the Ming Dynasty, the poor monk was going to go at that time, but he didn't want to suddenly get sick and it was difficult to make the trip, so he sent the poor monk's disciple Jia Cao Jie to the capital instead of the poor monk." Tsongkhapa.

"I've already heard from the messenger that it's a pity that this illness is really a pity, otherwise I would have been able to talk to the master three years ago."

"But the good news is that it's not too late. Three years ago, I listened to Jia Caojie's lecture on "The Solemnity of Present View", and I felt a sudden feeling of enlightenment. The disciples are so good, and Tsongkhapa, as a master, is of course more proficient in the Dharma, and I have long wanted to hear the master explain the Dharma. Yun Xi said.

"Your Majesty has a sense of enlightenment after listening to Jia Cao Jie's narration of the "Solemn Treatise on Present Views", and is willing to listen to the poor monk explain the Dharma, which proves that His Majesty is quite Buddha-like, and he is good." Tsongkhapa said.

"Master, you don't have to speak to me specifically in the words of Chinese Buddhism. I know that you Tibetan Buddhism doesn't say things like 'good, good, good.'" Yun Xi smiled.

"Thank you, Your Majesty." Hearing this, Tsongkhapa's heart fluctuated slightly. He had always heard that the emperor of the Central Plains was domineering, but when he saw Yun Xi being so modest at this time, he couldn't help but have a good impression of Yun Xi. However, he is a famous Buddhist master, and he still has basic self-cultivation, and he did not show it in the face, but began to explain Buddhist scriptures to him.

"Your Majesty, there are clouds in the Huayan ,......,Sutra ,......, clouds in the Lengyan Sutra," Tsongkhapa explained very seriously.

Yun Xi gradually listened attentively. Tsongkhapa is worthy of being a master of Buddhism, and his understanding of Buddhist scriptures is not comparable to that of ordinary monks.

After a long while, Tsongkhapa finished explaining the second volume of the Diamond Sutra, temporarily paused to drink saliva to moisten his throat, and Yun Xi came to his senses and praised from the bottom of his heart: "The master is really worthy of being a master of Buddhism, although I am not a believer in Tibetan Buddhism, I can listen to it, if the master can always explain the Buddhist scriptures by my side, maybe I will worship Tibetan Buddhism." ”

"Thank you Your Majesty for your praise, in fact, the poor monk's understanding of the Buddhist scriptures is just a family's words, although it is not wrong, but there may be a place where the Buddha's deep meaning is not understood. Even the poor monks themselves sometimes have new feelings when they reread Buddhist scriptures. Tsongkhapa said.

"The master is too modest. I have also listened to several Buddhist masters from the Central Plains explain the Buddhist scriptures, and in my opinion, none of them can compare to the masters. Yun Xi said.

Tsongkhapa didn't answer this question, so he didn't answer it, but waited for Yunxi to stop talking and asked, "Your Majesty still wants to listen to the poor monk explain that Buddhist scripture?" ”

"I heard all the scriptures of Tibetan Buddhism and Chinese Buddhism. I would like to hear the master explain that there are no classics in Chinese Buddhism, but there are in Tibetan Buddhism. For example, there is a "Torch of the Bodhi Path", which is said to have been written by the Indian Buddhist master Atisha? ”

"Your Majesty, the Torch of the Bodhi Path was indeed made by Venerable Atisha."

"This classic is not found in Han Buddhism, what does it say?"

"This sutra speaks of the concept known as the 'Three Priests'. Nowadays, the 'Three Scholars' Path is an important theory of Tibetan Buddhism. ”

Tsongkhapa elaborates: "The 'three scholars' in the path of the three scholars refer to the sergeant, sergeant, and corporal, which are the three levels of human beings. The corporal is in the path of the corporal, with the purpose of relieving the suffering of this life and seeking happiness in this life. Only by taking refuge in the Three Jewels of Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha can one step up from the six realms – from the three evil realms of hell, hungry ghosts, and animals, and to be reborn in the three good realms of humans, asuras, and heavens after death. …… This is the first step in spiritual practice. ”

"After that, it's time to practice the sergeant's way. The purpose of the middle sergeant path is to attain the state of nirvana, and what is to be cultivated is the three learnings of precept and wisdom. …… Determined by the precepts, by the determination and wisdom, and thus enter the world of Nirvana. At this time, the practitioner has already become a Buddha by himself, but he has not yet been reborn into the world and enlightened sentient beings. ”

"However, both the sergeant path and the corporal path are in the six realms of reincarnation, and to become a Buddha is not only to liberate oneself, but also to purify sentient beings, which requires the development of bodhichitta and the practice of the 'six perfections' of generosity, vows, patience, diligence, meditation, and wisdom, and attaining the supreme Buddha path. In this way, you can save both yourself and others, and get rid of the suffering of the six realms of reincarnation. …… This is the third step of the practice – the path of the sergeant. ”

"According to what the master said, that person has an afterlife and can be reincarnated?" After listening to Tsongkhapa's detailed explanation, Yun Xi spoke.

"Your Majesty, although ordinary people have an afterlife, they can only be reincarnated after death and lose the memory of their previous life; A Venerable One who has cultivated the Upper Path, but he can detach his soul from his body and transfer his soul to another new body when this body is about to grow old and die. This is reincarnation, which means that the soul of a Venerable One who has attained cultivation can live and die. Tsongkhapa replied.

"I see," Yun Xi said with a smile, "I used to feel unclear when I read the Buddhist scriptures, but now I understand after listening to the master." ”

After that, Yunxi asked a few small questions that were not clear and asked about the teachings of the Gelug sect. Hearing this, Tsongkhapa immediately became agitated and said aloud, "The teachings of my Gelug sect are different from those of other sects. Pay attention to the rules and precepts, and never violate them. ”

"Since the chaos of the Tibetan country more than 100 years ago, the temple organization has been loose, the precepts have been relaxed, the monks have no one to restrain them, they do not recite sutras, they do not practice the Dharma, they marry wives and have children, and they are debauched. The high-ranking monks took advantage of their privileges and asked the people for women to commit adultery under the pretext of cultivating secrets. These tantric lamas do all kinds of evil, one of them is named Sakya monk, came to the Central Plains, once for the Yuan Emperor to pass on the supreme tantric "Xi Vajra" empowerment, give double cultivation (double body), widely take women for their adultery for the ** is fun, even men and women naked, the monarch and the minister proclamation of adultery for everything without hindrance to the realm. There is even an evil method called "Hezhu", which wantonly ravages women and kills people to take the heart and liver is called He. ”

Seeing this, the poor monk was extremely distressed and determined to reform. Poor monks stipulate: First of all, monks must take precepts, strictly abide by them, be celibate, do not marry, do not engage in worldly affairs, and purify the Monastery. ”

"Secondly, it is the two learning of determination and wisdom. Determination is to restrain one's mind from being scattered, and wisdom is to increase wisdom and not be ignorant of the path to liberation, so there is no precept and indefiniteness, and no determination can give birth to wisdom. The two studies of concentration and wisdom are about learning and practicing. ”

"The third is to rectify the style of study, and completely change the style of exaggeration and falsification. ……”

Tsongkhapa spoke very passionately in this passage. He was very sad about the monks who violated the precepts of the Qing Dynasty and believed that their actions had greatly harmed Tibetan Buddhism. Not to mention anything else, because of the wanton behavior of these people, the Han people in the Central Plains still have many misunderstandings about Tibetan Buddhism, and it is difficult to preach them. It was in order to change this phenomenon that he himself founded the Gelug sect.

Yun Xi also listened in awe. Tsongkhapa did this completely thanklessly, and he was already a very famous master who did not need to do these things, but for the sake of the future of Tibetan Buddhism, he did not hesitate to start rectifying the precepts. People with ideals are always worthy of respect.

He said: "If all the monks in the world are like masters, why worry about Buddhism not flourishing! ”

"Your Majesty praised falsely, the poor monk just did what he could." Tsongkhapa said modestly.

The two of them gave in a few words, and Yun Xi finally said, "Master Tsongkhapa, I am very touched by what Master has done. I remember that in Tibetan it means lama. Come on, the purpose. ”

"Fengtian carries the emperor's edict and said, the Tibetan Buddhist master Tsongkhapa, the good deeds of Nade,......, and the crown of the ten thousand elements, the ten thousand elements have the most victorious Yuanjue wonderful wisdom and good Pu should bless the country to perform the teachings, such as the great treasure of the Dharma King Xitian Dashan is in the Buddha to lead the world to interpret the teachings of the ordinary Wachi Lada Lama Jebu Tsundamba Lama, and give seals and gold, silver, banknotes, color coins, woven gold beads, robes, gold and silverware, and saddle horses. Chin this. After the decree was written, a loud eunuch read it aloud.

"Poor monk Xie Daming, His Majesty the grace." Tsongkhapa saluted again, with a happy look on his face. Although Tsongkhapa was a very noble monk who devoted himself to the study of Buddhism, he was not a fool. He was crowned the Lama Jebtsundampa, and his fame increased, and the influence of the Gelug sect increased rapidly, which was of great benefit to him in spreading his own sect.

But what he didn't notice was that Yun Hee also showed a happy look on his face, not just a look of being moved.
