The optical system magnifies and reflects the head-up screen to the infinite distance in front of the pilot.

It uses the principle of optical reflection to project important flight-related information onto a piece of glass. The glass is located at the front of the cockpit, at a height roughly level with the pilot's eyes, and the projected text and images are adjusted to the infinite focal distance, allowing the pilot to easily merge the outside world with the HUD data when looking ahead.

In this way, the pilot does not need to look down to check the display and data of the instrument during flight and operation, and always maintains a posture of raising his head, so as to reduce the delay and discomfort caused by ignoring the rapid change of the external environment and the need to constantly adjust the focus of the eyes between bowing and looking up.

The data projected by the HUD is mainly related to flight safety, such as flight altitude, flight speed, heading, vertical speed change, aircraft inclination angle, etc. When used in a combat environment, target information, weapon and launch information, estimated hit points, and so on are also added. The information displayed can be changed according to different conditions.

As for the hot-wire aiming of the cannon, it is only one part of the content of the heads-up display.

There is no doubt about the advancement of the warplane's flat display, but a key problem is that the numbers displayed above are small numbers, and for pilots, their eyesight is quite good, and it is no problem to look at this number, but it still takes training to turn this number into an intuition in the mind.

Because everyone is accustomed to looking at pointer instruments, as long as you scan them with your eyes, there are dozens of instruments on the entire dashboard, which one is working properly and which one has a problem, and you know it clearly, and if you want to become a qualified pilot, you must reach this level.

Moreover, it is very advantageous to modify the fighter, because the Soviets have never paid attention to ergonomics, after flying the MiG-17, then the MiG-19, they found that the cockpit is very familiar, after flying the MiG-19, and then flying the MiG-21, the cockpit is also very familiar, and the position of the instrument is unchanged.

Everyone is accustomed to looking at the instrument and being able to form a conditioned reflex directly from the mind, and now, if you want to fly an advanced head-up display, you must also form a conditioned reflex.

When the heads-up display is displayed, scan it quickly and imprint the numbers on it in your mind.
