Chapter 1147: Great Britain
Three medium-sized hot air balloons float off the coast of Dover.
The three hot air balloons were released from the Great Qi European Fleet to direct the firing angle of the ship's guns and observe where the shells landed. There were several personnel on the hot air balloon, some were responsible for observation, some were responsible for calculating angles, and some were responsible for hoisting flags and directing the ironclad artillery below.
Underneath the balloon, under the command of the balloon spotter, the guns of the ironclad ships rained down on the heads of the British beach defenders.
Explosions were everywhere, black smoke and shock waves enveloped the area, and there was basically no place left on the beach. More than fifty ironclad ships concentrated all their fire on this stretch of sand, and the defenders could not find any safe place.
The ironclad ship fired five miles away in the offshore sea, and due to the turbulent waves, the hit rate was not particularly high. However, there were nearly 1,000 guns on one side of more than 50 ironclad ships, and the firepower was too dense. At the rate of 30 seconds of naval artillery, every two minutes a shell was fired at any part of the trench.
Although the ironclad ships use cone blasting shells, not shrapnel shells, the fuses of these cone blasting shells have also been improved in recent years, and they are triggered and can explode when they land. Cone blasters can often pierce the sand layer in front of the beach trench and crash directly into the sand layer, and if they are lucky, they can explode directly inside the trench.
The six-mile-long beach defense line was bombarded by nearly 1,000 naval guns for 10 minutes, and the coast was already full of potholes blown out by shells. From the point of view of the commander of the navy, Lu Hu, the golden sand on the beach of the British was completely invisible. The entire beach is covered with brown sand that was blown out of the underlying layer of sand when the shells exploded.
Between those sands, I don't know how many British defenders were killed. The bodies of the British were everywhere, some naked on the beach, others buried under the sand. The blasting shells of the naval guns were so powerful that some of the British soldiers' limbs were shattered and torn apart.
Blood mixes with the sand, turning the sand into something like sticky soil.
Lu Hu suddenly saw a huge fireball flash from the pine forest behind the beach.
Then there was a deafening rumbling sound, which almost stunned Lu Hu's ears. That fireball engulfed the entire pine forest in the blink of an eye, and the flames engulfed everything. Then, after a few seconds, countless black smoke suddenly appeared in the middle of the fireball. The black smoke gathered into a black cloud, and Lu Hu saw a huge mushroom cloud rise from the sky above the pine forest.
Apparently, the ammunition depot of the British army exploded. The pine forest was supposed to be a British ammunition depot and supply point, but the gunpowder hidden in the pit was detonated by the bombardment of blasting shells.
Lu Hu laughed, patted Shi Dingping, the captain of the fleet beside him, and said, "I'm afraid I'm going to win the beach battle now." β
Shi Dingping looked at Lu Hu and said: "Commander, there is no suspense about victory, and now the only question is whether the British army will counterattack on land after we land." β
Lu Hu was choked by Shi Dingping, a little embarrassed. However, Lu Hu is a person with an excellent temper, and he has always felt that with his ability and skill, he has some confidence to be a naval commander. And Shi Dingping is Lu Hu's most relied on capable subordinate, so even if Shi Dingping speaks directly and even a little politely, Lu Hu never gets angry.
Lu Hu patted Shi Dingping's shoulder, and said with a straight face: "Shi Dingping, what you said makes sense, there is no suspense about our victory!" β
Shi Dingping nodded and looked at the shore.
After bombing for so long, the barrels of the ship's guns were a little hot, and the ironclad temporarily stopped shelling.
A thousand marines lowered their sampan speedboats from the ironclad ships and began the first stage of landing. The 1,000 men wore steel helmets, new body armor, and Qi rifles in their hands. They have grenades strapped to their waists, they have mortars on their ships, and they even have scopes on their rifles, so to speak, armed to the teeth.
There were more than 8,000 British infantry on the opposite coast, and it is not known how many were killed. Lu Hu did not expect this thousand marines to break through the British defenses, and now his intention was first to open up a landing zone at the forefront of the beach.
More than 70 sampan boats are equipped with internal combustion engines at the tail and are propeller-driven, reaching speeds of up to 25 kilometers per hour. The sampans charged from five kilometres above the sea and soon reached the beach.
However, the expected British counterattack did not materialize.
When the Marines rushed to the beach in their boats, jumped off the speedboats and began to open up positions, they did not meet any attack. In fact, the Marines vaguely felt that the British on the opposite side had given up resistance.
The Marines quickly set up a battle line on the beach, digging trenches, preparing to provide bridgeheads for subsequent landings - although the Tigerbens had the ability to break trench defenses, for the Europeans, trenches with a large number of mortars were basically unsolvable.
However, it was a long time to wait until the second group of landers arrived in speedboats, and the marines did not encounter any artillery or attack from the British.
The second group numbered 2,000 people, and the third group numbered 7,000 people. It took the third group a full seven hours to all land. However, as soon as the third group of 7,000 people came ashore, the natural danger of the English Channel was basically captured.
When Lu Hu and Shi Dingping led the third group of people ashore, they were a little puzzled. Neither of them understood why the British did not have the slightest tactical operation of the counteroffensive. The British are luring the enemy deeper? They even suspected that the British were gathering the main forces and preparing to wipe out 10,000 Tiger Ben troops on the beach at once.
Lu Hu was a little nervous, and ordered the sailors to transport the heavy weapons on the ship off the ship overnight, to hold this bridgehead at any cost.
However, the British were always quiet, and Lu Hu did not hear a single gunshot for a night. In the early morning of the next day, the sentinels on the periphery suddenly fired warning shots, and Lu Hu raised his binoculars and saw a group of British parliamentarians.
The British secret guard next to Lu Hu whispered to Lu Hu that it was the British ruling Cromwell who was at the forefront.
Cromwell, wearing only a white shirt in the cold weather, walked towards this side with his hands held high. Beside him was a cabinet member, a white-haired old man with a beard, holding a white flag.
Shi Dingping and Lu Hu glanced at each other in surprise.
The British surrendered.
And the surrender was so complete that it was actually the consul Cromwell himself who came to surrender.
Cromwell walked a mile in front of the Marines and stopped to be inspected by Chinese Navy soldiers. Then Cromwell walked up to LΓΌ Hu under the watchful eye of the soldiers and bowed to the Chinese naval commander.
Cromwell had apparently not slept well in a long time, and his face was haggard. His body shivered a little from the cold, and he surrendered with a long list of words of respect and humility.
The interpreter next to him said: "Commander, the British have decided to surrender unconditionally. All armies of England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland will lay down their arms within three days. If the commander needs it, we can disband all of Britain's 430,000 troops on the spot. β
"As soon as the commander accepts our surrender, the British cabinet is immediately dissolved."
"All of London's outer defensive fronts have been removed, and the Han Chinese army can take control of the city at any time."
"Cromwell accepted the rule of the Chinese on behalf of the British, we are willing to learn Chinese, we are willing to accept the laws and systems of the Chinese, and we are willing to serve the Chinese Emperor Li Zhi as our emperor."
Lu Hu looked at Cromwell and laughed.
He stroked his beard and said with a smile, "Cromwell, our fleet will bring more soldiers to England." I will not reply to your surrender until we occupy London, because we have to see whether Britain really surrendered unconditionally, or if it wanted to deceive better terms with surrender. β
