Chapter 963: Convincing Mackas
Carl McCas's life has been wonderful lately, and he has never been so excited.
In recent days, he has not only been somewhat satisfied with his current life, but has fallen in love with the current state of life. He felt that he was closer to his ideal than ever, and he was eager to see if he could put his predictions and research into this reality, and turn his dream into reality, even if it was only the first step, the first step.
Five months earlier, the ambassador of the Kingdom of Prussia to Britain had personally visited him, apologized for the grievances and injustices he had suffered in the past, gave him the Prussian citizenship he had rehabilitated, and invited him to return to live and reside in Prussia. However, although he was very happy, he did not agree, and he only asked his wife Yanni and the children to return to Prussia, while he continued to stay in London to complete his mission, the deputy head of the London station of the secret service.
In fact, he asked for it on his own initiative.
Today, he is not only the editor-in-chief of the Workers' Times, Carl Maccas, a special correspondent for the New York Daily Tribune, but also the former honorary president of the London Dockers' Federation and the London Shoemakers' Union, and now the president of the "International Workingmen's Association" around the world, based in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland.
From the moment he was elected president of the International Workingmen's Association, he devoted himself to the British labour movement. In the process of getting in touch with those workers, Mekars found that the failure of the Chartist movement more than a decade ago was due to the fact that there were serious divisions among the so-called workers of the Chartist faction from the very beginning of the movement, and the "morality" faction led by Lovett advocated the use of peaceful propaganda to negotiate with the British government for political rights; The "violent faction" led by O'Connor advocated the use of violent revolutionary means to overthrow the British government and fight for universal suffrage. However, with the rise and fall of the movement, they broke away from the Chartist movement and became reformists, and even the violent O'Connor only talked about violence, but in fact they were compromisers.
Mechas and his close friend Friedrich von discussed and concluded that the root cause of the Chartist movement's failure was that it was a movement, not a revolutionary action with a programme of struggle, that there was no clear political party as its commander, that there was no strong organisation throughout the movement for more than a decade, that the consciousness among the workers was weak and slack. The main body of the Chartist movement, including the leaders, was actually very immature in their thinking, and they had too many illusions about the government, and they only intended to reform. Finally, through the study of the Chartist movement, and through a series of extensive and in-depth analyses and studies in the political, philosophical, economic, and social fields, Mekars finally realized that only by violently smashing the capitalist regime can the socialist model be realized, the universal suffrage of the workers can be realized, and the workers-dominated regime can be established.
He revised the first draft of Das Kapital and finalized it for publication in the Workers' Times and the New York Daily Tribune at the beginning of this year.
The book "Capital" uses the viewpoint and method of historical materialism to reduce social relations to the relations of production and the relations of production to the height of the productive forces, thus proving that the development of social forms is a natural historical process that does not depend on human will. In this book, Mackhas analyzes the history of the development of capitalism in detail and profoundly through a large number of facts, debunks the "secret" of the rapid development of capitalism, exposes the ugly nature of capitalism's cruel exploitation of British workers, and points out the reasons why the working class is extremely poor.
Capital consisted of six chapters, divided into six issues and published in newspapers and magazines, and with the huge circulation of the Workers' Times and the New York Daily Tribune, for a time it was widely circulated among the lower class workers throughout Britain and the northern United States, causing a great sensation.
On the Mississippi River in Missouri, USA, a steamship pilot named Samuel Ranchen Clemen, who had just named himself Mark Twain's penchant for writing, held trembling hands and read the six chapters of "Capital" in the New York Daily Tribune, which he had taken from his brother, which was already somewhat torn, and could not help but sigh: "I see! I see! I think that I have gone from a poor typesetter, to a printer who barely eats himself, to a sailor with a little savings, to a helmsman with a very high salary, but I have never understood this truth, but in the final analysis, I am a worker, and the capitalists have earned a huge amount of surplus value from me. This is simply a history-making book, and I feel that the world is going to change for this, associationism,..... Well, when will such a beautiful dream come true...."
In Manchester, England, the writer Charles Dickens, who had just finished writing A Tale of Two Cities, read the last issue of the Workers' Times, where Capital was published, and was disappointed, but his heart was extremely excited, and he wrote passionately in his notebook: "This is simply an encyclopedia, the pinnacle of the study of the socio-economic form of capital in the United Kingdom of Great Britain!" This man named Mekars, who had never heard of him before, was looking forward to meeting this master economist, philosopher, and even politician! He simply created a completely new system of thought, associationism, well, this new idea that corresponds to capitalism, is in the same vein and completely opposite, and completely dialectically summarizes the evolutionary process of all mankind. Philosophers in the past have always tried to explain the world, but the author of Capital explores the key to how to change the world. Finally, I like the author's sentence very much: the inevitable demise of capitalism and the inevitable victory of the proletariat are both immutable and the inevitable trend of historical development! I dare to conclude that this is a great dream and at the same time a great prophecy! ”
However, not long after the spread of "Capital", the British military police kept an eye on it, and if it weren't for Zeng Jize, the head of the secret service department in London, who spent a huge amount of money to check up and down, it is estimated that Mekars would have been arrested by the military and police, and the "Workers' Times" is estimated to have also been seized.
But McCass didn't care, he was already intoxicated by the publication of Capital and the continued popularity of the Workers' Times. In recent months, the major workers' associations in London and nearby cities such as Birmingham have frequently invited him to attend congresses to give speeches and explain the essence of Capital to some workers' rallies. Mackas also took the opportunity to travel all over London and throughout the south of England, mingling with many of the lower class workers. In this way, Mekarz was busy with hard work and full of accomplishment and joy.
On this day, McCass was attending a meeting of the "Improving the Living Conditions of the Working Class" association on Baker Street in west London, and just after finishing his speech, he suddenly saw Zeng Jize in the crowd waving to him, and he immediately followed and jumped into Zeng Jize's carriage.
Zeng Jize who was sitting in the carriage was already waiting for him, and said excitedly: "Mr. McCas, your dream is likely to come true!" Now we have a very good opportunity, and it's up to us to see if we can seize it. Once you get it, you may well be able to achieve the kind of associationalist society you envision in the UK! No matter how bad it is, it can be achieved on the island of Ireland! ”
Seeing that Zeng Jize, who had always been young and old, was so excited, coupled with what the other party said, he couldn't help but be curious, and asked, "Stationmaster Zeng, what's going on?" ”
"That's right!" Zeng Jize pulled the window partition of the carriage shut, so that the conversation between the two people inside the carriage would not be heard outside, and said solemnly in a low voice: "The news some time ago, I guess Mr. McCus also knows. Since the British Expeditionary Force was completely wiped out in the Chinese Empire, the colonial rule of the British Empire, which was originally the most powerful, has been somewhat loosened. Because of the transfer of some troops from India, their troops were insufficient, resulting in the Sikhs, Bengalis and other local princely states in India all rebelled, Delhi in the north of India, Mumbai in the west, Dhaka in the east and other important cities, all captured by the rebels, and now the princes of the princely states of the whole India began to rebel, united to attack the British army, against the rule of the British colonial government in India, and even Calcutta was in danger. At the same time, the Irish on the nearby island of Ireland, led by an Irish nationalist organization called the 'Fenian Society', also launched a vigorous rebellion and captured the Irish capital Dublin. ”
In view of this, the British Cabinet decided a few days ago to send troops to India and Ireland to quell the rebellion, because the military expenditure in recent years was too huge, and the Cabinet Government, which had no funds, also borrowed military expenses from bank capitalists. In this way, in order to repay these high military interest and principal, the British government has prepared to increase taxes on the common people, including the broad masses of workers. Therefore, we, the Special Service Department of the Chinese Empire, believe that this is an excellent opportunity to achieve universal suffrage, political participation, and even ruling power for the workers! Mr. Maccas, we must seize this opportunity to organise our workers' brothers in London and even in England against the rule of the British capitalists and aristocrats, and to re-establish the power of the working class itself! ”
Zeng Jize's straightforward and bold words stunned Mekars! Although he was over forty years old, his blood still rushed to the top of his head, and his chest boiled.
On the one hand, he was a little surprised by Zeng Jize's plan, you know, although he wrote a book like "Capital", which clearly stated that the only way to break the shackles of bourgeois rule and establish a Datong society in which the proletariat holds power, this was only in the book, or in his dream. Although he firmly believed that this dream would come true, he also believed that it would be many years later, and even in his lifetime, he would not necessarily see it, so in real life, he did not think that there would really be a day when a large number of workers' organizations would violently oppose the government.
But on the other hand, he was a little nameless excited, and the blood that had been dormant for a long time began to stir. He even suspected that he had been constantly appearing at workers' rallies and movements, giving a large number of speeches, and speaking out in the Workers' Times for the workers' associations of various industries to help them fight for their own interests.
However, he still took a deep breath, calmed down, and asked steadily, "Stationmaster Zeng, are you sure?" You know, I don't want those worker brothers to suffer senseless sacrifices. After the Chartist movement, several struggles between the workers' associations and the government ended in defeat and bloodshed. ”
In fact, McCass is still a little cautious, because he received a lot of funding from the Chinese Empire, he was taken care of by Zeng Jize and the forces behind him, and had no choice but to work for the Secret Service Division, but he still didn't want himself and those low-level workers to become pawns in the hands of the Chinese Empire and the Secret Service Division. He feared that this was only the London station of the Secret Service Department instructed by the Chinese Empire, and through his influence in the workers' associations, knowing that it would not succeed, he still incited the workers to rise up and make trouble, and only achieved the goal of weakening Britain by simply messing with Britain itself. In this case, he will not bear it, and he is unwilling and disdainful to do it.
"Mr. Maccas, I can't guarantee whether it will succeed or not, but what I can guarantee is that this is definitely the best opportunity in more than twenty years to realize your dream and that of those workers." Zeng Jize looked at Mackhas calmly with his eyes, and said sincerely: "According to our intelligence, Britain has a total of about 150,000 army troops, in addition to the 90,000 troops sent to India and Ireland to quell the rebellion, there are still about 60,000 left, and there are also many navies and land forces stationed in India and Persia, the Suez Canal in Africa, North America and New Wales, etc., and the number of British land forces in Great Britain should be reduced to less than 40,000. Even if you add those policemen whose average age is 24 years old, there are less than 40,000 police officers in Great Britain, with low salaries, extremely poor working conditions, 15 hours a day a day, seven days a week, very low status but very strict requirements, they are already dissatisfied, plus most of these police officers were originally unemployed workers, poor craftsmen, etc., and soon after joining the police, they can be co-opted and not hide from Mr. McCas, Of the 12,000 police officers around London, nearly 4,000 have been bought by our London intelligence station, and nearly a fifth of the police officers in other parts of the world have received our funding. ”
Mekars was taken aback! He didn't expect that the London intelligence station he served as a spy would do such a good job, not only finding out the number of troops in Great Britain clearly, but also controlling nearly one-third of the police in the whole of London quietly with money. Think about it, in the past, weren't those military and police who stalked and monitored themselves just the appearance of being destitute, and they were bribed by the stationmaster Zeng with money to become their own "personal bodyguards", and even if they were themselves, weren't they "hired" by the other party to be the deputy stationmaster of the London secret service intelligence station?
With this analysis, Mekars really felt that this was the best time to achieve the workers' association's seizure of power. Thinking of this, he gritted his teeth and said, "In that case, Maikars will obey the dispatch of Station Master Zeng!" ”
