Chapter 25 Karl-Marx's Five Commentaries on Tréville

Readers will be struck and bewildered by the news from France in the near future: the Holstein-Gottp royal family, the last heir of the Holstein-Gottp royal family of Germany, who once reigned on the throne of Sweden, married Louis Bonaparte, a former slave and exile, and who had just ascended to the throne.

There can be no doubt that Louis Bonaparte had no reputation to speak of, that he was a careerist, a liar disguised as a great man, a cruel executioner who suppressed free men, who had no credibility in any part of Europe, including the countries he had usurped, and who was able to marry a descendant of an ancient royal lineage, and to use her surname and fame to adorn his empire, which was virtually without prestige.

Why was he able to act so recklessly, and seemed to be doing everything smoothly?

Why is it that such a ridiculous group of people seems to be victorious one after another, and can repeatedly boast about these glorious scenes?

Is it true that he has God's blessing in the dark, as he boasts of himself?

Of course not.

For they are not facing an adversary, for the time being, the people, the source of historical strength, but an old-fashioned aristocratic class that is declining and decaying, and which is increasingly forced by the times to become somewhat ridiculous, and precisely because the enemy is so weak, that they will win one after another, until they have been beaten to the point of surrender.

Louis Bonaparte was reluctantly propelled to power by the French, already frightened by the chaos of the post-revolutionary period, and no matter how much he packaged himself, he could not avoid this fact. It was only because the French felt that he was a little more endearing between him and utter chaos that he came to power, and in fact he was more unconfident and more cautious than any emperor, including his uncle.

It was the times that made the monster Louis Bonaparte and his absurd empire, not Bonaparte who created the times.

History, after human beings evolved such a behemoth as society, is essentially the transfer of wealth, and when the wealth of a certain country is permanently fixed in a certain class or a certain number of families, we can say with great confidence that this is a dark period in the history of that country, and it can even be said that it is a pool of stagnant water, nothing has happened, there is no history at all, everything that happens is just boring birth, old age, sickness and death, nothing more.

Thousands of years ago, Babylon was ruled by the priests, when the temple was a school, a government, a supreme court, the center of all power, and of course the concentration of all wealth.

Then, one day, as the military leaders grew in power, they first cautiously tried to provoke the wrath of the gods, and then they did not invite any calamity, and at last they found themselves truly powerful, and that the gods were nothing more than unspeakable idols, meaningless except to be worshipped in temples—and probably the same was true of the priests.

As a result, they eventually seized all power, and beyond the superficial respect, the temple lost its proud wealth, and history entered a new phase.

Something similar happened in Europe, where the Germanic tribal leaders and their people prostrated themselves at the feet of the church, paying the tithes without complaint—until they found it better to keep the money for God for themselves.

History flows through the transfer of wealth, which is always left to those who are bolder, more far-sighted, and more able to move forward.

Now, it was the turn of the descendants of the military chiefs, Princess Caroline from the royal family of von Holstein-Gottp, to play the role of the Babylonian priests or the papal clergy.

Over the centuries, the strong, savage tribal leaders have become self-proclaimed nobles, who may have made great achievements in 'civilization,' but have also lost the aggressiveness and determination of their ancestors that allowed their ancestors to break through the thorns and build an empire from the ashes.

Although they seem to be active on the social stage, dominating the front page of the news, these princely nobles have long been disastrously idols of the temple - high up and unable to do anything, and they are effectively incapable of maintaining their position.

The ridiculous bourgeois intellectuals prostrate themselves to the so-called noble blood, no different from the fools who once knelt before the priests, but there were some people who were much more clever, ambitious and never took the established rules seriously, that is, they discovered the truth that the gods on the throne never existed, and that anyone could take it into their hands if they were resourceful and daring.

The Revolutionary generation was the first to discover this truth, and when they guillotined Louis XVI's fat body, they discovered that the man they had worshipped was just a ridiculously middle-aged man on the throne, and that it was no more difficult to kill him than to kill anyone. There are no gods, or people themselves are gods.

A new era has come, and after cutting down the past masters, like the military leaders who overthrew the priests, they find that the world is in their hands and they can become the gods of the new age.

The French fought among themselves for the power of being gods, and the last genius came to the fore as the new master of the country, stronger than even any previous king - note that, like his predecessors, he was a warlord, a former military chief, whose descendants had fallen to the point of idols, and had a new man to fill the void of history.

Louis Bonaparte was known to be an admirer of his uncle, or rather a pleasure to play his uncle in front of everyone, so that although he had no genius, he and his gang had such cunning and audacity, and it was for this reason that at the moment of the throne they were better than anyone else, and they seized an entire country with an astonishing speed.

The speed of their victory was unbelievable even to themselves—yes, the temple of the old age would always be so vulnerable to the forces of this new age.

The marriage of Princess Caroline von Holstein Gottp is just another example of the priests bowing to the military chiefs, just as the Habsburg Emperor had to marry his Princess Louisa to the emperor before him, and the priests were defeated in the face of powerful careerists, and finally prayed for surrender, and then counted on these people to keep themselves on the throne of God - of course, in many cases, their wishes can be fulfilled, and careerists cannot rule the spiritual world of the people after all, They always have to keep the old idols to help them do it.

Just as the leaders of the Germanic tribes converted to the Roman Church, the new careerists were anxious to pull the old priests to their side to coax the people, as was the case with the old Napoleon, the younger Napoleon, and the future generations will be the same.

In the same way, we can see that the new Napoleon and his followers were far more powerful than the old clerics, more defant of the old rules, less moved by the ridiculous creeds of blood, and so more powerful and better qualified to hold the pivot of a nation, even though they were morally worthless.

Here's an example to back up my claim:

Just a few months ago, Louis Bonaparte appointed one of his closest assistants, Charles de Treville, who will surely be known to those familiar with my commentary, as Minister of Transport, to oversee all matters relating to French rail and shipping traffic.

And this Tréville, who did not live up to the expectations of his master, was ambitious as soon as he came to power, declaring that he would do everything to promote the railway industry and modernization of France, and would do whatever it took to do so.

He fulfilled his promise, and as soon as he came to power, he wantonly increased his borrowing and invested in the railway industry with reckless spirit, and for a time the French economic circles rejoiced, and the market also expected that the government was using the means of expanding investment to maintain employment and promote domestic stability.

By means of temporary relief and a desperate expansion of investment, Bonaparte and his assistants had temporarily stabilized the French order and allowed them to boast that the Bonaparte family's imperial rule was secure.

Yes, isn't it ideal to collect money in the name of the state and then try to get it into your own pocket? Isn't it worth the complacency of this group of people about their cleverness?

There is solid evidence that Treville invested directly in the railroad business, despite all accusations of corruption, and that his master, in various ways, was involved in the railroad business.

Putting into his own pocket the debts owed by the French government, which is ultimately the French people, and turning him from a penniless penny prisoner and a bankrupt family into a billionaire, is a good business that a clever man can find!

The governments of Europe, seeing the evils of these men in the face of their rhetoric and the incomparably ugly tricks they concealed under their high-sounding slogans, were unmoved—how could they have done so? Governments are doing the same thing, just a little bit more under the cover-up.

They would simply put on their gloves, spread their hands, congratulate their peers on their victory, and drink the champagne they had brought them.

Under the magic wand of the French money, Sardinia, Prussia, and Austria have become so enchanted that England has abandoned the principles she had held for many years, and the orthodox principles that the whole of Europe once held for their creed have long since collapsed - and perhaps one day we may see the Tsar flattering for the financial support of France!

The priests are retreating step by step, and the barbarian leaders are pressing forward step by step, this is the progress of the times, and of course it is also a progress accompanied by countless tragedies and jokes,

The farce staged in France today, no matter how much Bonaparte and his close comrades-in-arms boast and how much they take it as 'proof of the consolidation of the dynasty', is not a proof of the feudal principle that has re-shackled France, but rather a proof of historical progress.

The pace of progress does not change with the obstruction of people, and the Bonaparte dynasty appears in the joke, and it will end in the joke.

For the victory of Louis Bonaparte and his minions could not last forever, and the priests of the old times were prostrate on their knees, but their greed could never end, and sooner or later they would point their swords and spears at the people who had only been silent spectators, in order to satisfy their greed, in order to maintain their crumbling empire, in order to buy off the soldiers who only barely followed them, they could only do so, and not far off.

And at that time, the people will really stand up and push history forward again, and this time, the proletariat, the most powerful and well-adapted class for the new era, will truly become the gods of the new era, and when that day comes, the world will have an incomparably brilliant tomorrow!
