1040 Guards Division
How many main forces of the front-line troops of the USSR can be used passively? This is going to start from the beginning.
Before Stalin left Moscow, the Soviet army was losing ground on the battlefield, so it followed the example of the German army and formed a group of main armored forces.
These reorganized main armored units were given the title of "Guards" by Stalin and became a real trump card unit within the Soviet army.
Over time, the Soviets formed a total of 10 Guards tank divisions with the Guards number and 60 Guards Infantry divisions with the Guards number.
It can also be seen from the number that the 10 Guards tank divisions in front are the first batch of real elites to be formed.
In other words, including the first 10 Guards Rifle Divisions, these units are the real main forces.
As for the remaining so-called Guards Infantry Divisions, most of them are "full" units that only have numbers and have no substantial combat power improvement.
The 10 Guards Tank Divisions formed in front of them correspond to the ten Guards numbers from 1 to 10.
Today, on July 20, 1941, where are these main Guards tank divisions?
The situation in the north has deteriorated, and the 1st and 2nd Guards Tank Divisions urgently formed by the Soviet Army have been completely wiped out, and even the numbers have been canceled.
The first to be formed, and relatively well equipped, the 1st Guards Tank Division was routed by the German G group near Smolensk, and finally canceled its number.
This unit received the first batch of large T-34 tanks, but only a few dozen. The remaining tanks are still the old KV-1 and T-26 models, so they disappeared into history after only one battle.
The 2nd Guards Tank Division, which was assigned to the command of Marshal Rokossovsky, was deployed on the outskirts of Moscow.
This force performed well in the battle for Red Tekach, and almost crushed the vanguard of the German occupation of Red Tekach.
As the real main force, the first tank company of the Soviet Red Army to break into the Red Tekach was under the jurisdiction of the 2nd Regiment of this unit. It's a pity that in the end, it fell short, and was blocked by the vanguard of the German army led by Karjuus, and the whole army was annihilated in Red Tekach.
The remaining 3rd Guards Tank Division was completely annihilated by the besieging Germans in Moscow, which was basically consumed in the defense of the city.
The reinforced 4th Guards Tank Division is now Zhukov's strategic reserve, and the 5th Guards Tank Division was left in Stalingrad as a general reserve.
The 6th Guards Tank Division was on its way to retreat, and the other units mobilized by Zhukov were also massing towards Kursk at this moment.
Its streak had only begun a few days earlier, as it held back the German panzer forces head-on, holding the 24th Tank Corps of Group G 1 km south of Boneri.
Before being broken through the defensive line, the 6th Guards Tank Division first stopped the menacing German 4th Tank Division, and fought a bloody battle for another day, causing the German 3rd Tank Division to lose more than 70 tanks.
Therefore, judging from the current record, the 6th Guards Tank Division can be said to be a veritable king of the Soviet tank forces.
Another more courageous was the 2nd Guards Tank Division, but this division had already perished with Rokossovsky in Red Tekach and could no longer fight the Germans.
And the 7th Guards Tank Division is near Kiev at this moment, and it needs to deal with the pressure of the entire German Army Group South.
The equipment of this division is quite good, but it has to involve most of the southern defense line, so it can't be pulled out at all.
The next 8th Guards Tank Division, which was next, was now retreating towards Higre. Zhukov ordered them to retreat in the direction of Tim if they were attacked.
Then the 9th Guards Tank Division is now deployed in Gorky, and the 10th Guards Tank Division is deployed in the Odessa direction.
The most elite and the first 10 Guards tank divisions were formed, and at this moment there are only seven units left: the 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th.
Among them, the 6th Guards Tank Division had just been broken through the line by the Germans, losing more than half of its strength and having lost its combat effectiveness.
The equipment of the 8th Guards Tank Division has not had time to be reequipped, in fact, the combat effectiveness is not high, it is just the number of the Guards. Although it is eligible for priority replacement of T-34 tanks, it has not been reequipped because of the lack of production capacity of T-34 tanks.
The 9th Guards Tank Division in the Gorky direction was reorganized from the retreating units of the past, not to mention the low combat effectiveness, and the number and quality of tanks were not very good.
The 10th Guards Tank Division in the Odessa direction suffered heavy losses and was itself driven out of Odessa by the combined forces of Italy, Romania and Germany.
Therefore, the main forces of the 10 Guards Tank Divisions formed in the first batch of the Soviet Army have now been completely annihilated, and 4 have suffered great losses in combat effectiveness or are dissatisfied with their combat effectiveness.
Of the three remaining tank divisions, one is far away in Stalingrad and one is deployed in Kyiv without moving......
From this point of view, Zhukov's forces are not very abundant, he only has two armored divisions, the 4th Guards Tank Division and the 6th Guards Tank Division, which have been disabled, and can be put into the operation in the Kursk direction.
The 4th Guards Tank Division was quite luxuriously equipped, with more than 200 T-34 tanks, and many of them were equipped with radio stations imported from the United States.
With such equipment strengthened, the combat effectiveness of this unit is also quite impressive: the whole division is highly motivated, and it is the last elite in Zhukov's hands.
Although the troops on the German side going south were not very good, Guderian's 4th Panzer Division had already withdrawn from the battle sequence due to losses.
Although the remaining 3rd Tank Division received some replenishment, it also suffered considerable losses in the anti-propulsion, and the number of tanks in Group G had been sharply reduced to less than 500 units.
But Guderian had a steady stream of reinforcements as a backing, and the Soviets could only mobilize infantry to defend the Kursk region.
After all, after several days of fierce struggle for air superiority, the Soviet Air Force had exhausted all those families that had been urgently assembled. The Soviet Union, which lost air supremacy, did not have the audacity to be too ostentatious in the heavy forces on the ground.
Moreover, in terms of troops, Zhukov did not have the main armored forces that could be mobilized to strengthen his Kursk defensive line. He could only add infantry little by little, consolidating his crumbling defensive line.
Directly north of him, the German 47th Panzer Corps, having ended its short vacation, had been ordered to begin its southward movement. This unit has always had a poor reputation and relatively old equipment.
However, with more than 600 tanks in the 17th and 18th Panzer Divisions, plus assault guns from the 29th Motorized Rifle Division and the 167th Infantry Division, the 47th Panzer Army is still a force to be reckoned with.
