Chapter 566: A Good Start

After a busy day, the first column of the Western Army finally established its advance base on the south bank of the middle reaches of the Xilamulun River. The cavalry units of the first column will also join them here.

In the next few days, a fleet of barges from the river deck will come over one after another to deliver various supplies here. The fleet was followed by a logistics brigade composed of a large number of young Mongolian herdsmen, and the cattle, sheep and horses captured by the first column would be taken care of by them.

The advance bases of the other two columns, the second column at Laoha River, and the third column at Zhenyibao in Xihe and Xingzhong in Daling River, are also being intensively established. These forward bases will provide logistical support for the three columns of the Western Corps.

As soon as Song Tao and the special combat team arrived in Guangning, they were sent out by Li Ming. Their mission this time was to infiltrate the Eastern Tumut and Karaqin divisions, and to use one qiē means to cause as much confusion as possible in both divisions before the troops formed an encirclement.

After sending off Song Tao and the special combat team, Li Ming, Hao Changfeng, and others boarded the Type 35 airship, and then took to the air to command and operate against various units in the western region.

The units of the Western Corps are rapidly deploying, and the main cavalry units are also converging towards several forward bases. Although there are many Mongolian tribes in the grasslands of eastern and western Liao, their strength is still not comparable to that of the Horqin tribe.

Faced with the pressure of the Far East, all the ministries sent envoys to the Far East in the hope of negotiating. While the Far East was rapidly deploying troops, it also sent people to communicate with the various ministries. The Mongol tribes had already sensed that the Far East was not coming well this time, so they also began to communicate around the steppe, gathering troops and horses, and preparing to deal with the attack from the Far East.

While the steppe tribes gathered their troops and horses, the tribes also began to migrate westward. But it was already too late, and the first to deploy the troops was the third column of Zhenyibao, who took the lead in heading north to Yizhou. Launched an attack on the Sadabe of Eastern Tumut.

This was the first battle of the Western Army, and in order to make a good start for other troops, the Western Army not only sent Song Tao's special combat team, but also requested support from the Air Department, which immediately sent two Cessna 208 planes and two Robinson R44 helicopters to provide all-round air support to the third column of the Western Army.

The distant ancestor of the Karaqin king was Genghis Khan's lord Lemei. It belongs to the Wulianghai clan. It is also translated as "Uliangha".

In the seventh year of the Emperor's Apocalypse (1627), Lin Dan Khan, the Northern Yuan regime who had always wanted to revive the golden family, carried out a crusade against the resistance of the Karaqin and Tumut tribes to the Khan's court, defeated the Karaqin tribe, and the rest of the Karaqin tribe moved east to the Wuliangha Sanwei Land. However, due to Lin Dan Khan's years of conquest and brutal exploitation, it caused the other tribes to revolt.

In 1628, the feudal lords of the Karaqin tribe, such as Dalai Taiji, Tumo Karaqin and Bushitu Khan, gathered together the Inner Khalkha and other departments, allied 100,000 troops, and wiped out more than 40,000 people and horses of Lin Dan Khan in Zhaocheng of Tumut. This is the famous Duoyan counterattack.

Year 1629. The Tumut chieftain Wenbu Chuhur and the Shanba of the Karaqin Uliangha who were stationed in the Mantao area joined the Later Jin Emperor Taiji because they were afraid of the power of Lin Dan Khan. In 1630, according to the decree of Huang Taiji, he led his respective subordinates to move eastward and came from Mantao to the border of Jinzhou. The Tumut tribe is located in the area of present-day Chaoyang and Beipiao. The Mongol Zhenbu settled in the present-day Fuxin region. Shanba led 1,620 households from Zhengzhou to move east to Yixian County, Jinzhou, and the northwest of Beizhen to live as herdsmen.

The opponents of the Western Military Region in the first battle were the Eastern Tumut Division and the Karaqin Division, which were nomadic in the steppe in the northwest of the Quang Ninh garrison area. Although the two tribes have also made preparations, and the tribesmen of the two tribes have already embarked on the journey to the west.

But the attack of the third column of the Far East and West Corps also began at this time. Song Tao led the special combat team to infiltrate the two departments and wreak havoc. Caused a certain amount of confusion. An assault force consisting of two overseas brigades, a Mongolian cavalry brigade, and four Mongolian militia brigades suddenly launched an attack.

Two Cessna 208 aircraft and two Robinson R44 helicopters of the Air Department. It also took to the skies to participate in the battle, providing air support for the third column. The artillery and armored units directly under the corps also participated in the battle.

In the face of the fierce attack of the Far East air and ground integration, the tens of thousands of tribal cavalry of the two cobbled together only held out for a short time before collapsing. Tens of thousands of troops of the two divisions were surrounded and annihilated by the Far East north of the Daling River. The first battle of the Western Military District was very smooth. It got off to a good start.

Not to be outdone, the second column was not to be outdone, two Mongolian cavalry brigades, four Mongolian militia brigades, supported by two Type 32 airships and an armored assault detachment, suddenly attacked the Naiman division on the south bank of the confluence of the Xilamulun River and the Laoha River. A raid was conducted.

The Naiman tribe belonged to the fiefdom of the Naiman tribe, one of the eight Etoks of the Mongolian Chahar Khan. The head of the department, Genghis Khan, the 19th grandson of Genghis Khan, called this place the Naiman Department, and the Yuan history called the Barbarian Department. In 1627, Gunchuk, the son of the then head of the Naiman tribe, Esen Weizheng, broke away from the Honzong Chahar Lindan Khan and led his troops to submit to Houjin.

In the face of the surprise attack of the elite cavalry of the Far East, although the Naiman tribe put up stubborn resistance, it was finally defeated, and the elite cavalry of the tribe abandoned the tribe's flocks and the old and weak women and children and scattered to the west. But they were immediately stopped head-on by the 3rd Brigade of the Field Division, and the support of the two main Mongolian cavalry brigades and two Mongolian militia brigades that rushed from the Central Army also rushed to the battlefield.

The 3rd Brigade of the Field Division of the 2nd Column of the Far East and West Corps, as well as 2 Mongolian Cavalry Brigades, 4 Mongolian Militia Brigades, plus the 2 main Mongolian cavalry brigades and 2 Mongolian Militia Brigades of the Central Army Corps rushed to support, finally surrounded the main force of the Naiman Division on the grassland between the Xilamulun River and the Laoha River.

The tens of thousands of tribal cavalry of the Naiman Division, who fled frantically to the west, crashed head-on into the defensive line arranged by the third brigade of the field division, and they were beaten all over the field by ferocious firepower, and tens of thousands of tribal cavalry instantly collapsed and began to flee frantically in all directions. At this time, the main cavalry brigades and militia brigades of the Far East and West Corps also arrived on the battlefield one after another and surrounded the Naiman Division.

The four cavalry brigades of the Central Corps received the order and rushed from the Korqin steppe. Li Ming's original idea was for them to strengthen the reserves of the Western Army, and after the Third Column quickly dealt with the Eastern Tumut Division and the Karaqin Division, he also changed his plan.

Although the progress of the Western Army was very smooth at present, in order to avoid unknown changes in the battlefield situation, Li Ming still decided to concentrate his superior forces and do his best to deal with the many Mongol tribes in the steppes of eastern and western Liao.

This time, the two main Mongolian cavalry brigades and two Mongolian militia brigades rushed from the Central Army, each cavalry was equipped with five war horses, and they kept changing horses all the way, and they came at a wild gallop without stopping. It took less than two days to rush 500 miles to the battlefield. Despite their fatigue, they went straight into the fight. (To be continued......)
