Chapter 27: The Story (Part II)
"Once, there was a strange customer in the store, and he wandered around the store for a long time, his eyes kept resting on one object, and finally the person who came just bought a pack of cigarettes and left in a hurry. The thing he was looking at was not a commodity, it was an ornament in the store, a jewel that didn't quite fit the shopβa translucent emerald. When a lot of people come to the store, they're attracted to the gem, and then the young people are happy to talk to them about the gem. However, this time the guest was different, he had been looking at the gems longer than many people, but he left without saying a word. β
"Is it a thief or something like that, thinking about that gem?" After listening to his words, my first reaction was that the thief was worried.
After hearing this, Vincent smiled self-deprecatingly: "Thief? No, he's here to catch the thief. On the third day after the man came, something happened. On that day, the young man went to the city to buy goods, and the old man took care of the store in his place. When the young man returned, the neighbors were very anxious to inform him that the old man had been taken away by several people, including the police. β
After that, the young man ran to the police station like crazy, and when he asked the police officer about the case, they told him that the old man had stolen something from a noble family. And the police revealed some information to him - the attitude of the people is very tough, and they also have a relationship with the upper echelons, and jail is inevitable, and it is very likely that the sentence will be severe. When he heard the words 'jail' and 'heavy sentence', he was already blindsided, and since the case was still pending, he could not see the old man. When he climbed into the shop, the emerald that was supposed to shine there was gone, and it made him understand at once. β
"That emerald is the last 'masterpiece' of the young man's debauchery career. In fact, before the young man washed his hands, he did a big deal, he went into a nobleman's house and stole a lot of things, and that emerald was one of them. But most of the stolen goods were disposed of by him, and he used the money to open a farm and live a stable life. But it was such a day that paralyzed him, and he was so delusional that he even used that gem to decorate the faΓ§ade! β
Vincent's tone was filled with indignation, and there was a deep hatred in it.
Later, when the young man wanted to confess his sins, the old man had already confessed one step ahead of him. At the strong request of the young man, he was given a brief opportunity to have a conversation with the old man. β
then
"I didn't expect you to bring those things into the store anyway," the old man's tone was disappointed.
"I was wrong, I won't do that again," the young man couldn't stop crying when he saw the old man.
But the old man's appearance was very calm: "No, it's okay, I think you've changed, I don't doubt what you've done." β
"You can't go to jail, that's what I did," the young man lay on the table, tears and snot streaming down his face, but he didn't bother to bother with those things at all.
"Okay, don't cry here, I don't want to see you the way you are." The old man paused, and he could clearly feel that he was also choked: "Get up, get out of here quickly, outside, there is a better future waiting for you." β
"Nope! I don't want those things! You can't just do it for me," the young man couldn't stop crying, and he couldn't change the old man's mind.
In this way, the guard came in and informed the two that the conversation time was over, and the young man was forcibly pulled outside, and the last scene that caught his eye was a kind smile from the old man.
Since then, young people have appealed many times to no avail. Two months later, the old man's already tired body finally couldn't support it. The old man, who had been clean all his life, finally died tragically in prison, and the small shop that the old man had run for many years was forcibly "bought" because of the nobleman's play of power.
The young man spent all his money to hold a grand funeral for the old man, and he was introduced to join the army by others.
At this point, Vincent finally got rid of that heavy tone, and continued his story: "When a recruit was trained, he was more agile than the others because of his previous 'occupation'. An old instructor was interested in him and always gave him extra training in his free time, and he was happy to train because it would allow him to forget about his past injuries for a while. β
Vincent changed his tone as if to show off: "The old instructor taught him how to use the sniper rifle, and also taught him some things from the First World War, and taught him some tactics. He is very willing to learn these things - learning to snipe allows him to calm his mind, and learning tactics requires more brain. This is a rare opportunity to smooth out the scars in my heart. But the old instructor didn't understand the little abacus in his heart, and just blindly instilled in him everything he knew. β
Vincent is back to his usual pace of speech, and judging by his appearance, the story should come to an end. Later, the young man fought valiantly on the battlefield and achieved good results. He was given the opportunity to be transferred to the unit he had been training for as an instructor. Faced with this choice, he had no resistance at all. After he went back, he trained the gang of raw melons and eggs with the old instructor, and he was really happy at that time. But good times don't last long."
This is the third time I've heard him say this tonight, and I have to sigh: "This fate is really tortuous." β
"Not really," he replied to me, adding, "He accidentally misfired during training and wounded one of his officers. Just when he felt that his military career was coming to an end, someone stepped forward to help him. β
He let out a sigh of relief and said, "In the end, with the coordination of the old instructor's mobilization relationship, he was demoted by one level and transferred to the Afrika Korps. β
He changed to a mocking tone and said: "Now, he has met a confused commander and a stupid direct superior, not only can he not make meritorious achievements, but he also has to often clean up the mess for him, and it seems that his future is even more bleak." β
"You bastard, who do you say stupid! Stop, don't run! β
