Chapter 795: The Age of Sail

The Han navy was a branch of the Han dynasty that was valued shortly after his fortune, and at that time there was only one shipbuilding workshop in Jingling, and the ships manufactured by the workshop could only be used on inland rivers.

After the completion of Nanling City, three shipyards were set up on the left and right banks of the middle reaches of the Yangtze River to study new types of ships, but at this time they mainly developed inland ships.

The first research base for naval vessels was set up in the newly established coastal area of Minnan County (near modern Quanzhou), and then two naval vessel research bases were set up along the coast of Nanhai County (near modern Guangdong). The fourth naval vessel research base was established in Dongmenque (modern Lianyungang) in Donghai County after the annexation of Qi.

The establishment of the coastal research base began the road of setting sail for the brown water navy under the rule of Lu Zhe, but generally speaking, most of them belonged to the nature of research, and all kinds of ships of various shapes were studied and manufactured within five or six years, and some of them were directly fed to fish after driving off the coast for less than ten days, and some were used for a month or two, although they did not sink but also found huge hidden dangers, they could only return to the factory, and the first ship that was confirmed to be able to run on the sea surface after repeated tests only appeared in the past year.

The first type of vessel that was proven to be suitable for use on the surface of the sea was 45 meters long and 18 meters wide, with a pointed nose, a wide tail, two upturned heads, and a high head and tail. Due to the need to increase the interior space, its sides arched outward, so that the hull also looked "swollen". Not counting the height of the mast, it is divided into two layers, including the draft height of seven meters, that is, the draft is about four meters, and the exposed water surface is about three meters. Counting the overall height of the mast, and taking into account the necessary lookout buckets above the mast, the total height is thirty-four meters.

To put it bluntly, when the shipbuilding base under Lu Zhe designed the naval vessels, it still integrated the unique "basin" complex of Chinese civilization. That is to say, to pursue a posture in which the overall shape of the ship tends to be "round".

The ancient Chinese people discovered that the basin has a strong buoyancy very early, and they did not think about why it has buoyancy, but only thought that this shape was the most secure, so they also had the "basin" complex.

Lu Zheyou personally went to see the sea voyage ship that he had studied, and at first glance he recognized what kind of ship system it belonged to, except for a slight difference in shape and appearance, it was a kind of lucky ship at all.

Fukufu? The real Fuchuan is not only a two-layer structure, the real Fuchuan can reach a four-layer structure, but one thing is almost the same is that the designers have taken into account that the water ripples on the sea surface are different from the inland rivers, and they realize that the ship needs to have enough draft to ensure the stability of the hull when sailing in rough seas. All are to minimize the height of the water surface and increase the draft.

If Lu Zhe is not mistaken, did the Fuchuan system appear in the Two Song Dynasty, that is, around 1,000 AD?

At that time, the territory of the Great Song Dynasty was lacking, because Shi Jingjiao of the Later Jin Dynasty gave up dozens of states of Yanyun in order to seek the protection of the Khitan, and it was until the Later Jin Dynasty destroyed that the Great Song Dynasty faced the Khitan Liao State, and the congenitally deficient Great Song Dynasty was unable to recover the land of Yanyun, and what it was faced was that there was no danger of mountains and rivers as a barrier, so it was necessary to maintain a huge army to ensure the safety of the border.

The military expenditure of the Great Song Dynasty can be said to be the largest in all dynasties, and it is extremely dependent on commercial taxes. Naturally, it was necessary to strongly encourage business, and because the Khitan Liao State and the Western Xia Xiang Party almost completely cut off the land Silk Road on the land route, the Song people could only be forced to turn their attention to the sea, which opened the era of navigation belonging to the Song people. It was under the needs of this background that the development of the Song people's navigation has been amazingly developed, and the Fuchuan system was developed under that current situation.

The histories are strikingly similar...... Oh! It's not that the country ruled by Lu Zhe is also facing a dilemma like the Great Song Dynasty, but that the birthplace of HNA is the same. The navigation of the Great Song Dynasty started from modern Fujian, and the navigation under Lu Zhe also started from here, isn't it similar?

Fujian has a coastline of 3,324 kilometers on the mainland and 1,404 coastal islands. Opposite to Taiwan across the sea, the ancient Yue people living in Fujian have been galloping in the vast ocean for a long time. Fujian's hilly terrain and the mountains surrounding the provincial borders did not block the Fujian's socio-economic exchanges with other provinces and overseas, and the sea routes made it easy for Fujian to connect with the outside world, and even traveled farther than other provinces. In addition, Fujian is mountainous and rich in products, rich in timber and iron, tung oil, oyster ash, rattan, palm, hemp, lacquer and other materials needed for shipbuilding, and the people take local materials and build ships everywhere, and the shipbuilding industry along the rivers and coastal areas is very prosperous, and these unique conditions are indispensable for HNA.

Compared with the previous dynasties after the pre-Qin period in ancient times, the south of Lu Zhe's era has not yet been developed, and there are more unique advantages in the material. For example, if you want to get wood that is more than 100 years old in the south, you can find it by turning around, but it is almost impossible to find straight wood that is more than 100 years old in the Central Plains.

The tall trees on the land of the Central Plains were either destroyed in the war, or they were cut down early to be used as materials for palaces and other buildings. The primeval forests on the eastern side of Liaodong have not suffered much damage, but don't forget that the climate on the other side makes it relatively difficult to get materials from there. However, the primeval forest in the northwest of Qindi is still relatively intact, but it will also be destroyed in the following historical period, that is because there are too many dynasties in Guanzhong, and every time a new state is established, the imperial capital will be built or repaired, and then the palace group will also be built, which requires an incomparably large number of tree materials for more than 100 years.

At present, the number of shipbuilding bases in Fujian has been increased to five, and the finalized first-generation Fuchuan is being manufactured in large quantities, and the shipbuilding bases in other regions are also being manufactured, and about 24 first-generation Fuchuan ships will be launched every three months.

At the same time as the mass production of the first generation of Fukubune, research bases are also developing new types of seafaring vessels, such as the second-generation Fukubune, which is modeled on the first-generation Fukubune, which is almost twice the size of the first-generation Fukubune, but the appearance has not changed much.

In addition to the sea vessels under the Kaifu ship system, a "flying shear" mode of ships is also urgently being studied and tested under the direct intervention of Lu Zhe.

The so-called "flying shear" mode is actually a general concept, which is about the design and structure of the hull, the bow has a strong water-breaking shape, the overall display of the hull is slender, and the cut hull is relatively low.

The Clipper is an almost deified type of vessel. Of course, Lu Zhe will not let it go, but his original intention is not to build a large number of clippers, let alone to stipulate how large this type of ship should be. In fact, his starting point was to have a fast-sailing liaison type express ship, even if it was a model that tended to be a "boat", so that it could play the fastest liaison role in the development of the imperial navy to a certain distance in the future.

Lu Zhe is actually extremely satisfied with the current maritime development, only a few years to develop to the current stage, in addition to the fact that he stands at the highest place as a supervision, in fact, the current national characteristics have not been ossified. The creative power of the "chosen people" has not been stifled, and it is also the spirit of the Chinese ethnic group that has the courage to take risks is still there, and other factors are promoting development.

For the Chinese people, there are no enemies on the sea at all except for the harsh environment from nature, as long as they can adapt to the environment at sea, they can sail and explore at will.

It is precisely because there are no enemies on the sea that Lu Zhe's side is desperately in need of ships with huge transportation volumes, but it is precisely because of the large demand for tonnage that it is not so easy to study. This type of vessel needs to study the keel, structural connection, plate tightness, pinching degree and so on to a certain extent. The selection of timber needs to go through repeated practice, and it is difficult to tackle key problems without long-term experience in maritime navigation and the exploration of ships.

So far, there are no ships suitable for large-scale transportation at sea, and all Lu Zhe can do is win by quantity. The number of shipbuilding bases to be set up in the future is bound to increase again and again, and the scale it will reach depends on how many resources can be found on HNA.

Don't forget that Jì Lu Zhe is a traverser, he can't sail, and his memory of the world map may not be so reliable. But he knew what would appear in what direction the sea might be.

Lu Zhe knew what islands would be in what direction, combined with the compass technology that had been developed, and the restrictions such as sepsis that were particularly important on the HNA flight. Then there is the will from the supreme ruler, only the first year of sea exploration, the Han navy only took less than half a month to explore modern Taiwan, and then found out how many islands in the modern Taiwan Strait within three years, the unexpected product is the discovery of the Ryukyu Islands, but also from this relatively mild route to find a route to Wajima, then in addition to landing on Wajima from the Yellow Sea, in the recent period of time there is a sea route from the direction of Minnan County to Wajima.

Yizhou (Taiwan), Ryukyu Islands, Wajima Kyushu...... Some islands in the sea, they have now become one of the territories under Lu Zhe's rule. (For more information, see the "Map of East Asia in 212 B.C.") )

Of course, the development on the continental shelf is insufficient, and Lu Zhe will not develop anything on those sea islands, but so far he has only set up two naval supply bases in Yizhou (modern Kaohsiung and Tamsui), and a transit station in Ryukyu (Naha); There were 23 more coastal bases on Wajima (Kyushu Island), and there were more or less garrisons in each of them. The only thing in common is that immigration has not been carried out at all, after all, there are not many people on the continental shelf.

The garrison on Wadao Island was partly due to Lu Zhe's reason of not being an outsider, but in fact, it was also for the next large-scale plunder, as a starting point for need.

The series of islands and large islands of Wajima may not have copper and iron ore underground, but there are large amounts of gold and silver precious metals buried deep underground, and there are only three of the famous Iwami Ginzan, Sado Ginzan, and Fuji Ginzan, and other smaller gold and silver mines cannot be counted.

It took a year for the Han army to gradually figure out the coastal topography of Kyushu Island, and with the discovery of a large natural port (modern Sasebo Port), the Han army also brought in an engineering team to build the port. In addition to the necessary port construction, the Han army has also been deep inland, they are still full of primitive flavor of the island to explore around, found a lot of new species different from the continental shelf, the discovery of population as they go deeper inland.

In fact, the population of the Wa Islands is not large, and most of the primitive natives live in the mountains and forests, while the coastal and plain areas are foreign.

When the Han army landed on Kyushu Island, the villages found along the coast all had a distinct feature: most of the people living in the Wa Islands came from the continental shelf, and they were "foreign people" who crossed the ocean from the Central Plains or north of Liaodong even more ancient times.

Among some of the villages found by the Han army in landing, there are more than 14 villages with the atmosphere of Chinese civilization, most of them are from ancient times, and some of them are Qi and Chu people, these belong to the Chinese blood system, and most of them live in the southwest region of Kyushu Island.

In the northwest and north areas of Kyushu Island, the villages found by the Han army in the north of Liaodong are actually the hunting people of Fuyu, Hui, Lulou, and Wofu who are entrenched in the deep mountains and old forests of the northeast.

Because the sea navigation is not skilled, and the ships that can be used for the sea navigation are also limited, the total number of Han troops and engineering teams that landed on the island does not exceed 5,000, most of them are used for base protection and construction, and less than 500 people are used as exploration teams, they do not show ferocious aggression when encountering the residents of the island, and at present, they are mainly in moderate contact with those who originally lived on the island.

The Philippine islands that Lu Zhe most wanted to discover were still unfruitful, but he believed that at some point in the future, he would definitely find that the entire legendary island was a large island located on a huge copper mine.

As the timetable for the nations to merge their empires draws nearer, and the distribution and reform of the economic system will take place whether they want it or not, there is no better time to establish a progressive monetary system of gold, silver, and copper. The premise of establishing a gold, silver and copper triplet system is to have sufficient gold, silver and copper reserves, and Wajima, which has a large number of gold and silver underground reserves, has been found, but the most important copper reserves in the gold, silver and copper triple-based system are insufficient, and it is urgent to find the modern Philippine island...... (To be continued......)
