Chapter 22 Fighting in the Air

On July 2, 2015, the Fourth Indo-Pakistani War broke out.

Between 11 a.m. and 12:15 a.m. Islamabad time, in order to compete for air supremacy, the air forces of the two sides conducted the first round of duels, commonly known as the "7.2 air battle", in the skies southwest of Kashmir. Within 75 minutes, the two warring sides had deployed more than 150 combat aircraft.

Because the data released by India and Pakistan are not consistent, the outcome of the air battle is divided.

India was the first to announce that it had shot down thirty-seven Pakistani fighters and lost twenty-one of its own. Not to be outdone, Pakistan immediately announced that it had shot down 43 Indian fighters and one A-50I AWACS aircraft at the cost of losing 17 fighters.

As soon as the news was released, it immediately shocked the world.

As Pakistan released several photos taken by the reconnaissance plane, the "meritorious pilot" Major Khadif gave an exclusive interview to Pakistani and Chinese reporters about the whole process of shooting down the A-50i, and the news that the Indian Air Force A-50i was shot down was confirmed. The A-50I became not only the first military aircraft to be shot down in the Fourth Indo-Pakistani War, but also the world's first downed AWACS aircraft.

As for the other results, whose news is more accurate, the outside world cannot tell at all.

Perhaps both sides are deliberately exaggerating the results and concealing the losses.

You can deceive the "layman", but you can't hide it from the "insider".

At half past three in the afternoon Beijing time, Peng Maobang obtained the first combat statistics report.

The Indian Air Force lost fifty-two fighters in air combat, including twenty-five Su-30MKI, sixteen Mi-G-29 and eleven Mirage 2000. In addition, the Indian Air Force also lost 42 Mi G-21s, 37 Mi G-23s, 23 Mi G-27s and 18 Jaguars on the ground. When the war broke out, these fighters preparing to carry out ground attack missions were all parked at the airfield, and some had already completed their preparations before taking off.

The Pakistani Air Force lost twenty-eight fighters in air battles. Eleven of them are "Thunder" fighters.

Less than four o'clock. Peng Maubang received a second battle report.

Combine reconnaissance satellites, early warning aircraft, and reconnaissance aircraft to collect ground intelligence. It was confirmed that at least twenty-one Indian fighter jets were scrapped after returning to base. Seventeen warplanes did not make it back to base.

Five Pakistan Air Force fighter jets crashed on their way back. Six others were damaged during the forced landing.

After receiving these two battle reports. Peng Maobang can finally let go of his nervousness.

Although measured by the standards of the Chinese Air Force. The performance of the Pakistan Air Force is not excellent. But it's also very satisfying.

As an army general, Peng Maobang did not delve into the reason.

As Chief of the General Staff, there is no need for Peng Maobang to delve into the reasons.

The Pakistan Air Force, and all the air forces that are watching this war, must figure out the root causes of the Indian Air Force fiasco.

The moment the A-50i was shot down, the Indian Air Force lost the air battle.

At the time of the war, the Indian Air Force had four A-50Is. In addition to the one operating over Kashmir, one is on its way to the battlefield to provide support to the aircraft on attack mission, and the other two remain at the rear base for maintenance in preparation to replace the two A-50is in front four hours later.

After the battle began, Tamberkot's air defense center was first attacked by missiles, destroying ground facilities and losing command capabilities.

The heavy responsibility of tactical command is on the A-50i, and the campaign command center located in the rear can only provide navigation information for fighters at most, but cannot provide tactical information for fighters.

Immediately after the A-50I was shot down, the Indian fighter jets that were killing into Pakistani airspace lost their most important assistance.

As a last resort, Indian fighters had to use airborne radar to search for targets.

Compared with the radar on the "Saab-2000" early warning aircraft, which has a detection range of more than 350 kilometers, the fire control radar of the fighter, which has a detection range of only more than 100 kilometers, is simply an ornament. Before reaching the battlefield of air combat, Indian fighters lost the right to control information. While they were painstakingly searching for the enemy, the Pakistani fighters, guided by the AWACS aircraft, had avoided the radar detection area of the Indian fighters and reached the ideal attack position.

The air battle soon turned into a one-sided "massacre".

If you include the support provided by the Air Police 2000, the Pakistan Air Force is even more sure.

In the first round of fighting, the Su-30MKI group did not even see the shadow of the enemy, and was shot down by the "Thunderbolt-12" medium-range air-to-air missile, and the remaining five Su-30MKI did not even have the courage to fight, and after shooting the R-77 missiles aimlessly, they turned and fled before the Pakistan Air Force's "Thunder" fighters launched the second batch of medium-range air-to-air missiles. As a result, the twelve "Thunder" fighters that took part in the air battle were unscathed.

In the next two rounds of air battles, the Indian Air Force was completely at a disadvantage.

According to the size of the Indian fleet provided by the "Air Police 2000" and the time of arrival, the "Thunder" and "Thunderbolt" fighters of the Pakistan Air Force were put into battle in batches, preemptively launching attacks with "Thunderbolt-12" medium-range air-to-air missiles, and after gaining numerical superiority, they would fight their opponents.

In the Indian Air Force, the worst defeat was not the Russian-made fighters, but the French-made fighters.

When fighting the "Thunder" and "Thunderbolt", the Su-30MKI can also use the fire control radar to find targets and shoot the R-77 medium-range air-to-air missile before it is shot down. Although most of the R-77s were lost because they did not get the guidance information, they did not fall to the point of "not fighting back".

"Mirage 2000" did not even have a chance to fight back in the face of "Thunder" and "Thunder".

The maximum range of the Mika medium-range air-to-air missile is only 50 kilometers, and the maximum range of the Thunderbolt-12 medium-range air-to-air missile is 85 kilometers. The "Thunder" and "Thunderbolt" fighters can launch missiles outside the strike range of the "Mirage 2000" fighters, without giving the opponent a chance to fight back.

The second group arrived in the "Mirage 2000" group, and as a result, eleven of the 24 fighters were shot down, six of the other 13 crashed on the way back, five were seriously damaged when they returned to the airfield for forced landing, and only two barely survived the air again.

The only one that can "match" the defeat of the "Mirage 2000" is the fan G-29.

This kind of fighter plane, which India imported from the former Soviet Union in the 80s of the last century and which Russia has long since eliminated, is not equipped with advanced fire control radar, and the seven downed fighters were all finished without detecting their opponents. Better than the "Mirage 2000", the Mi G-29 is indeed excellent in maneuverability, four of which successfully avoided two "Thunderbolt-12" missiles, and also achieved an "undefeated" record of 0 to 3 in the air combat with the "Thunderbolt".

Of the three rounds of air combat, only the last round went to the fighting phase.

Eight Thunderbolts and twelve Thunderbolts take on twelve Su-30MKIs and eight Mi G-29s of the Indian Air Force.

Only then did the Pakistani Air Force lose its first fighter.

The significance of early warning aircraft in combat air combat is not very great, the performance of fighters and combat missiles on both sides is between the two, and combat air combat is relatively fair for both sides.

A more exceptional exception is the two-seat version of the Su-30MKI of the Indian Air Force.

Of the seven downed Pakistani fighters, four were shot down by the two-seater Su-30MKI; None of the four two-seat Su-30MKIs that participated in the battle were damaged, but six of the eight single-seat versions were shot down. This result shows that the two-seater fighter performs much better than the single-seat in dogfight. However, the weight of combat air combat is not large, and it is difficult for air combat to enter the combat stage when one side occupies information superiority.

At 11:50 a.m., the second A-50i arrived, and the situation improved.

The situation has returned to equilibrium, except that the morale of the Indian Air Force has been thwarted and the morale of the Pakistan Air Force is high.

Over the next twenty-five minutes, two batches of fighter jets were put into place.

The results were not much different, with the Pakistani Air Force losing 21 fighters and the Indian Air Force 17.

It is worth noting that all thirty-eight fighters were shot down by medium-range air-to-air missiles!

By this time, the Indian Air Force had been completely defeated.

Of the ninety-six air supremacy fighters that were put into service in the first batch, fifty-two were shot down, and nearly thirty more were seriously damaged.

The Pakistan Air Force also did its best.

In just over an hour, 121 sorties were carried out in five batches, of which 16 "Thunderbolts" carried out two air combat missions.

At the end of the air war, the Pakistan Air Force still held air supremacy at home.

The Indian Air Force abandoned air strikes against military targets in Pakistan, and all tactical attack aircraft deployed at front-line airfields, or that had already taken off, were transferred to rear airfields.

A victory of great significance.

A victory that does not belong only to Pakistan.

Pakistan Air Force Chief of Staff Mushata once mentioned: The Pakistan Air Force can win this fierce battle, in addition to having excellent pilots and advanced early warning aircraft, the battlefield information provided by the Chinese Air Force has played a decisive role, otherwise the Pakistan Air Force, which has limited troops, will be unable to block the Indian Air Force's five rounds of attack.

Although reluctant to admit defeat, the Indian Air Force did lose the first day of fighting.

When Peng Maobang, who was full of joy, came to the battlefield situation intelligence center, Ji Youguo was destroying a plate of dim sum. From the morning to now, he hasn't even eaten lunch, and he has long been hungry and panicked.

"I just received information that the Indian Army is not advancing into Pakistani territory."

Ji Youguo hesitated a little and put down his chopsticks. "Today's battle is over?"

"The Indian Air Force is defeated, and there will be no fierce battles during the day." Peng Maobang pulled out a cigarette, "They must be learning their lessons, maybe a new attack in the evening." I contacted Xiang Linghui and asked him to remind the President of Pakistan not to be careless. ”

"I immediately talked to Sharif on the phone, striking while the iron was hot and strengthening the relationship." Ji Youguo smiled, got up and said, "I'll come back after dinner, and the preparations for the meeting will be handed over to you." ”

"No problem, I'll ask the staff officer to prepare immediately."

After sending Ji Youguo away, Peng Maobang also laughed. Although this is not a victory for the squadron, in his opinion, it is more worthy of celebration than the victory of the squadron.

The Pakistani army has been learning from the squadron, and the students have such excellent performances, will the teachers be bad?

When Peng Maobang was beaming proudly, You Hongjun hurried over.

"Chief, I just received a report from the Swordfish."

Peng Mao Bangteng stood up suddenly, "Kill the 'Destroyer'?" ”

"Yes, good news!"

"Yes, it's really good, it solves our big problem." Although Peng Maobang tried his best to control his excitement, his joy was still on his face, "Go and call the staff officers who are resting at the changing of the guard, and I will invite everyone to dinner." ”

With two significant victories in one day, it is strange that Pymau is not happy
