Chapter 537: Pulling Out the Nails
The first update
When Shevardnadze left for Ankara, U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine returned to Turkey shortly after returning to Washington from a visit to Romania. A trilateral meeting initiated by General Mazyeer will take place in Ankara, the capital of Turkey, www.biquge.info.
Prior to the visit, President Mario personally telephoned Captain Hendlisk and ordered all ships of the Stanisk aircraft carrier battle group to immediately withdraw from Turkish waters and stand by in the Aegean Sea, Greece. President Mario's voice was a little hurried, "We have already negotiated with the Turkish side, and now the US aircraft carrier battle group must withdraw from Turkish waters in the shortest possible time, otherwise it will exacerbate the white-hot situation in the local area." β
"But Your Excellency, this is the best time we can control......," explained Captain Hendlisk, who hoped that this would be the perfect opportunity to bring the political situation under control in Turkey and make the Turkish government a puppet of the Americans. However, due to political considerations, President Mario rejected Captain Hendlis's idea.
"No, we can't take any more risks. And now the Turkish army is still the de facto controller of the political situation in Turkey. If the overthrow of the army was unsuccessful and Turkey was plunged into civil war, it would be the Soviet Union that would ultimately benefit. We have already failed once and cannot afford to take such a risk again, so it is better to leave it to diplomacy to settle the matter. β
"But we can't afford to watch America's allies lose ground!" Captain Hendlisk said anxiously.
"Losing ground? You're thinking too much, Captain Hendlisk. Mario said coldly, "We've just lost one ally, but it also means we have another ally." At present, General Mazyeer is also very entangled in the question of taking sides, and whether to choose the United States or the Soviet Union is an issue worthy of careful consideration for General Mazel. β
President Mario believes that the Turkish army is close to the West from the heart, because the millennia of Russophobic and anti-Soviet traditions have put the Turkish army on the opposite side of the Soviet Union. He would not have believed that General Mazyer would willingly become a so-called "ally" of the Soviet Union.
Now Mario hopes to be able to win the junta represented by Mazyere out of the hands of the Soviets through diplomatic means, although this is a painstaking and lengthy process.
"We have already intervened with General Mazyer, and he agreed to the withdrawal of the American aircraft carrier from the Turkish area. But the aircraft carrier must be docked in the Aegean Sea, so that the United States can intervene at any time in the event of a sudden change in the situation, understand? β
President Mario still has a glimmer of hope in his heart for Turkey, hoping to intervene directly by force when the situation is out of control. And if the new Mazyere regime is really pro-Western, Mario will need to consider switching to another card.
The first thing that came to President Mario's mind was Γcalan, the leader of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), which has always been supported by Moscow. The United States can turn enemies into allies at any time, and allies can also become enemies, depending on interests. After cutting off contact with Captain Hendlisk, President Mario turned around and said to Bowers, the White House chief of staff next to him, "What move should the United States take in the next political situation in Turkey?" β
"Using CIA connections to form an alliance with the Workers' Party of Turkey." Bowers' answer was brief, but it echoed the idea of the American president.
"The army has now stabilized the situation at home, and if they turn to the USSR to become a Turkish-Soviet alliance, this will be the most significant blow to us." Powers pushed his pigeon-egg-shaped glasses, stared at President Mario's face and said, "And no one dares to bet now that Maziel will favor Turkey or the Soviet Union, right?" Judging by his vacillating attitude, the U.S. government needs to add another card to its hand. β
"Yes." President Mario let out a long sigh, looked worriedly at the quiet night outside the window of the White House, and expressed his anxiety, "Maziel has not acted so far, the more it shows that he is hesitating in his heart." The United States cannot tolerate this uncertain variable, and if Mazyere is firm enough, he is already an ally of the United States at this point. β
"So we need the PKK card, and if Mazyel is not in the interests of the Americans, the CIA has to do something. Emasculating Mazyer's regime and inciting the population against the junta's rule would re-threaten the Turkish government with the Stanisk aircraft carrier battle group to step down. β
Mario calculated that Yanayev had not anticipated this, and perhaps also a mistake by the KGB, as previous military aid had turned the PKK into a taut string and locked in an awkward position. The Soviet Union has been holding the PKK in the hope of playing this card at the most critical moment, and now the President of the United States wants to play this card.
Mario sat down and said, "Now it's time for Director Tenet to do something and use the CIA's connections to reach out to the PKK and provide military assistance to these people." Let them cause trouble in the eastern provinces of Turkey. Well, and with regard to the Turkish negotiations, we also have to privately put pressure on General Mazyeer to let him know what the outcome of going against the United States will be. β
Both the United States and the Soviet Union wanted to turn the PKK into their own hands, and when Maziel favored the United States, the Soviet Union could play it. When Maziel was biased towards the Soviet Union, the United States could knock it out. The PKK's primary hope is the creation of a Kurdish crescent in eastern Turkey. The three parties each had a ghost, and then they came together by coincidence.
With that, President Mario leaned back against the sofa and rubbed his dry eyes. Since becoming president of the United States, he has become much more emaciated than before, and has deeply felt the sluggishness of his lack of energy, and in the face of his opponent Yanayev, who is five years younger than him, President Mario feels unprecedented frustration and despair.
An opponent who can always guess what he is thinking next is an invincible legend.
President Mario squinted his eyes and said to himself, "Over the years, the U.S. policy toward the Arab world has been to work on pulling out all the autocrats of the Islamic world, from Iraq, Iran, Libya, Syria to Turkey now. We will never allow another regime to influence the political situation in the Middle East and the oil market. β
Mario paused, then continued.
"All the rulers of the Middle East who are not in the interests of the United States must die." (To be continued.) )
