Volume 5 Central South Storm Chapter 26 Annihilation War (1160 explosions, ask for a monthly pass)

In the early hours of the morning, the fourth day of the counterinsurgency war in Laos.

After 24~hours of fierce fighting, the "Nankang-Nan Russia Annihilation War" ended, under the joint onslaught of the 271st Armored Brigade, the 273rd Armored Brigade, the 1511th Air Assault Brigade and the 1611th Air Assault Brigade, the 211th Infantry Division and the 7th Armored Division of the Vietnamese Army between the Nam Kham River and the Nam Ru River were completely annihilated.

The news channel of Radio and Television International of the Republic carried out a full coverage of the battle.

Compared with the battles of the previous days, in addition to the fierce air strikes and the fierce artillery suppression, the joint operations of the armored assault units and the air assault units have become the biggest attraction.

For decades, the common people of the republic could only learn about the joint assault operations of the US military through the news and television programs.

From the beginning of the Vietnam War, to the Gulf War, to the Iraq War and Afghanistan Wars, which became the main offensive forces, the US military's air assault forces have always been at the forefront of the world. This time, the Republic Army used 24 hours of wonderful performances to prove that the reputation of the "King of Land Warfare" is not in vain.

In the battle, the real protagonist was not the 2711th Armored Brigade, but the 1511th Air Assault Brigade.

Interspersed with battles, tactical divisions, in-depth assaults, and roundabouts, the 1511 Brigade of the Air Assault Brigade showed extremely strong combat effectiveness and incomparably swift mobility on the battlefield.

The war of annihilation had just begun, and the 151st Brigade of the Air Assault divided the 211th Infantry Division and the 7th Armored Division of the Vietnamese Army in three battles.

Subsequently, the low-altitude strike force of the 1511 Brigade of the Air Assault Brigade covered the armored 2711 Brigade to storm the easternmost part of the 211th Infantry Division, destroying the enemy and capturing more than one enemy within hours. During the offensive, the tactical division of the 1511 Brigade played a very key role, not only providing strong support for the 271 Armored Brigade, but also fighting three separate battles of annihilation, capturing nearly 1,000 Vietnamese officers and soldiers.

After opening a gap in the line of the Vietnamese army. The war of annihilation has been in full swing.

With the 273rd Brigade of the Armed Assault and the 1611th Brigade of the Air Assault entered the battle. The 1511 Brigade of the Air Assault Brigade was transferred to carry out in-depth assault missions. Divide the Vietnamese army as quickly as possible. The 1511 Brigade of the Air Assault changed its "role" very quickly. From the mission to the assembly of troops, and then to the departure of troops. Only the bell was used before and after.

"Assault in depth" is a good trick of air assault troops.

Helicopters are used as carriers. The 1511 Brigade of the Air Rush Brigade is like entering a no-man's land. Assault hundreds of kilometers in 2 hours. The 211th Infantry Division and the 7th Armored Division were directly "cut" out. It created an opportunity for the 271st Armored Brigade and the 273rd Armored Brigade to encircle and annihilate the Vietnamese troops in this unit.

Until around 15 o'clock on the 24th. The siege and annihilation battle is over.

More than 5,000 officers and soldiers of the remnants of the 211th Infantry Division of the Vietnamese Army, 1 armored regiment and 1 mechanized infantry regiment of the 7th Armored Division were completely annihilated. The rest of them disarmed and surrendered.

At this point in the battle, the remaining units of the 7th Armored Division of the Vietnamese Army broke through to the east and tried to join up with the 24th Infantry Division.

The 1511th Brigade of the Air Assault Brigade was dispatched again and outflanked the gap between the 7th Armored Division and the 24th Infantry Division of the Vietnamese Army at a very fast speed, laying the foundation for the final annihilation of the 7th Armored Division.

At 17 o'clock on the 24th, the last round of annihilation began.

The 2711th Armored Brigade and the 273rd Armored Brigade attacked the 7th Armored Division of the Vietnamese Army from the west and north respectively, the 1611th Air Assault Brigade was responsible for low-altitude support and tactical intersperse, and the 151st Air Assault Brigade was responsible for guarding the "gate" and preventing the 7th Armored Division from breaking through.

Because the fighting took place at night, the war correspondents were not able to capture many thrilling battle scenes.

Judging by the fact that the battle ended in the early morning of the 25th, the resistance of the Vietnamese 7th Panzer Division was very stubborn.

There is nothing surprising that the 7th Armored Division is the largest and strongest armored force in the Vietnamese Army, and belongs to the "strategic forces" in the Vietnamese Army, with 2 tank regiments, 2 mechanized infantry regiments, 1 infantry regiment, 1 artillery regiment, and several divisions directly under the battalion-level troops, with more than tank, more than infantry fighting vehicles, more than 600 armored fighting vehicles, more than 600 ~ armored fighting vehicles, more than self-propelled artillery, more than various artillery and mortars, with a total strength of more than 230C0 ~ people, The number of equipment and personnel surpassed that of the 27th Army of the Republican Army.

In the second phase of the annihilation battle, the 7th Panzer Division lost less than half of its strength.

There was no hope of breaking through, so the Vietnamese army held on, causing great trouble to the attacking 2711th Armored Brigade and the 273rd Armored Assault Brigade. The 24th Infantry Division, located southeast of the battlefield, launched a fierce assault on the defensive line of the 1511th Air Assault Brigade in an attempt to rescue the besieged 7th Panzer Division.

Being able to annihilate the 7th Armored Division in 7 hours was an indispensable contribution of the air force.

That night, the Air Force flew a total of 577 combat aircraft sorties, providing 1,263 air support to ground forces, and only two attack aircraft groups deployed in Simao and Jinghong (each equipped with o attack

Machine 24) made 124 sorties, throwing various types of ammunition and destroying 328 Vietnamese tanks and other combat vehicles.

Another important support force is the 27th Army Ground Long-Range Artillery.

Three artillery battalions (one of which was a rocket artillery battalion) threw a total of artillery shells and rockets at the Vietnamese army that night, about 50 percent of which were guided artillery shells, destroying 863 tanks and other combat vehicles, 241 fortifications such as firing points, artillery positions, and 8 troop assembly sites.

According to later statistics, 70% of the Vietnamese soldiers killed in the battle were killed by bombing and shelling!

In the face of such a fierce blow, even if the 7th Armored Division of the Vietnamese Army grew wings, it could not escape.

In the early morning of the 25th, with no hope of breaking through, the commander of the division, Major General Huang Jiecheng, committed suicide by swallowing a gun. Subsequently, the remnants of 11C00~ more than 100 officers and soldiers were all disarmed

In the battle on the 24th, the hardest fight was definitely the 153 Airborne Brigade.

Because the other brigade had to encircle and annihilate the 211th Infantry Division and the 7th Armored Division, and the 152nd Airborne Brigade needed to hold the "South Gate", the 153rd Airborne Brigade had to defend the "West Gate" alone. To make matters worse, the Air Force and long-range artillery had to fully support the annihilation battle and could not provide much support to the Airborne 153 Brigade.

Before the battle began, Xiang Linghui personally issued an order to the commander of the 27th Army to provide sufficient ammunition for the 153rd Airborne Brigade.

Seizing the time before the start of the battle, the 27th Army airlifted 1 artillery battery and 2 heavy mortar batteries to the Airborne 153 Brigade, as well as approximately ammunition. The Air Force dispatched large transport planes to carry out three airdrops to the 153 Airborne Brigade, dropping a total of ammunition and supplies.

Everyone knew that after the battle began, the Vietnamese army would desperately attack Nong Hei.

Indeed, from the 24th of the 1st, the Vietnamese army again stormed Nong Hei.

Because Peng Maobang stipulated that the Vietnamese army should be annihilated within hours, the 153rd Airborne Brigade was ready for a fierce battle.

After the start of the fighting, the 153 Airborne Brigade was especially "economized" on ammunition.

The battle in the afternoon was relatively "easy", and several breakout operations of the Vietnamese army were easily beaten back.

At night, as the last round of annihilation began, the 2nd Infantry Division, the 27th Infantry Division and the 5th Armored Division of the Vietnamese Army, which were blocked to the west of Nong Hei, felt a personal threat and desperately broke through to the east.

The battle soon came to a fever pitch.

The 153 Airborne Brigade fought with all its strength, and even the lightly wounded took up arms and went to the front.

In the hours before the night, the 153 Airborne Brigade lost its personnel, including 163 officers and men, and the casualty figure exceeded the number of more than ten hours of fighting during the day!

By the early morning of the 25th, there were less than 1c00 officers and soldiers in the 153rd Airborne Brigade who could still fight.

Fortunately, the annihilation battle was about to end, and the low-altitude strike unit of the 1511 Brigade of the Air Assault Brigade was the first to reach Nong Hei and wiped out dozens of tanks and infantry fighting vehicles of the 5th Armored Division of the Vietnamese Army. Reinforcements from the 1611 Brigade also arrived quickly, repelling a round of attacks by the 27th Infantry Division of the Vietnamese Army on behalf of the 151 Brigade.

Later, Li Dongshi and a group of officers and men of the 153 Brigade were awarded the "Special Combat Merit" medal for their outstanding performance in the battle that night.

Compared with the 153 Airborne Brigade, the ground pressure of the 152 Airborne Brigade is slightly less.

Because the road to the south was more rugged, only the 23rd Infantry Division of the Vietnamese Army, which ran into a wall on Nong Hei on the 23rd and was wiped out, broke through to the south.

In the face of the 23rd Infantry Division, which had less than 600 forces left, the 152nd Air Assault Brigade completed the combat mission with great ease.

At the end of the "Nam Kang-South Russia Annihilation War", the 7th Armored Division and the 211th Infantry Division of the Vietnamese Army were all annihilated, the 23rd Infantry Division was scattered, the 5th Armored Division and the 24th Infantry Division suffered heavy losses, and the 27th Infantry Division was reduced by about one-third. During the entire campaign, a total of 17,238 Vietnamese officers and soldiers were killed, 24,384 were captured, and one was missing (except for a few who fled into the mountainous areas, the vast majority of the missing died from bombing and shelling). So far, the Vietnamese army besieged in Laos has lost more than half of its combat strength.

The Army of the Republic also paid a huge price for this.

The largest losses were borne by the 153 Airborne Brigade, with a total of officers and men killed, 1,374 wounded, and 27 missing (9 were later confirmed to be captured); The 1511 Brigade of the Air Assault Brigade lost 73 officers and men, 2,311 wounded and 2 missing (all of whom were later confirmed), the 1611 Brigade of the Air Assault Brigade lost 1C3 officers and men, 323 wounded and 19 missing (all of whom were later confirmed to be killed), the 2711 Armored Brigade suffered 273 officers and men killed and 542 wounded, and the 273 Brigade of the Armored Brigade lost 177 officers and soldiers and 286 wounded. In total, 1,345 officers and soldiers were killed, 3,245 wounded and 9 captured.

Although the number of casualties is not large compared to the number of enemies destroyed, such a huge casualty figure is enough to tell the problem.

We have to admit that the officers and men of the Republic Army showed extraordinary courage and fearless morale in the battle, especially many officers and men of the 153 Airborne Brigade who could not stay in the line of fire after being wounded and persevered until the last moment, but the problems exposed by the Army in the battle were still particularly obvious.

When summing up the lessons of the battle, Xiang Linghui clearly mentioned the most prominent problem: the lack of support firepower.

Almost all the troops involved in the war have this problem. In the lightweight and rapid restructuring, the rapid assault capability of heavy armored units, including the 2711th Armored Brigade, has been significantly improved, but the light units are not equipped with sufficient support firepower. In the case of the 153 Airborne Brigade, if there had been some light large-caliber artillery, the casualty figure would have been much lower.

Peng Maobang also made a summary himself, and the question he raised was that the army's logistical support capability urgently needs to be improved.

If the army has a strong air transport capability, it will be able to provide sufficient support for the 153 Brigade of the Air Assault, so that the officers and men do not have to worry about the lack of ammunition in the battle, so as to maximize the combat effectiveness of the airborne troops and reduce unnecessary casualties and losses.

The troops that have always been really strong, not to see the advantages from the victory, but to find the shortcomings from the victory!

Damn it**
