This brings us to the small difference between Duan Hongshi and Li Shi's thinking on national politics. The article is divided into three parts. The first part talks about the creation of man by heaven and the setting of ten thousand positions. At the beginning, there were only cultivators, soldiers, merchants, kings, ministers, fathers and sons. And then gradually evolved, such as doctors, tricks, workers, teeth, such as friends, bureaucrats, and things.

Man is in the world, and he has all kinds of offices, among which there is the office of blood. As a son, a father, and a husband. There is also a duty for all things. Such as farming, soldiers, businessmen, and officials. At the same time, he also has a subordinate position with others. Such as the minister. Men and women. Be friends and so on.

The second part talks about the meaning of vocation: the incarnation of man into the world, the duties of his life, are determined by heaven. Each position has its own natural circulation, which cannot be exceeded. If it is light, it will not tolerate morality, and if it is serious, it will not tolerate law. The virtues and laws of this position are not determined by others, but by God.

Therefore, in the world, one of the most basic things for a person to conform to the way of heaven and do things according to the heavens, and to become a person who can establish the world, is to assume the vocation of heaven.

Speaking of this, the Confucian Party and the Virtuous Party felt a cold sweat, which is in the name of heaven, completely breaking the so-called Confucian so-called "self-cultivation, Qi family, and governance of the country" The three successive progressive truths. The old Confucians all said that if they are virtuous, they can govern a family and a country.

But Duan Hongshi denied this statement with the theory of vocation. He divided the vocation into the vocation of blood, the vocation of the human being, and the vocation of all things. The things of the old Confucianism are only in themselves, only in the position of bloodline, and the part of interpersonal relations and things, which is equivalent to the things of life and governing the country, has its own way of heaven and must follow the real reason.

This part is not the most terrifying, the most terrifying is the third part. Duan Hongshi said that the circulation of the Heavenly Dao should be in the world, and it does not correspond to people, but to this vocation, and people are not fixed in vocation. Therefore, one should not judge things by blood, but by vocation.

These words are a little euphemistic, but the comments such as "Yuexiu Shibao Bao" have made a straightforward analysis, a big vernacular:

Don't judge heroes by their origins! The theory of blood origin can be put to rest! A person can only be judged by whether his deeds are in accordance with the law and morality of his vocation at the moment, not by his origin.

The Confucian Party and the Virtuous Party are confused, this theory, the root is the solidification of the noble and lowly of the tile, combined with the previous Li Shi's "Three Treatises", God allows people to follow the way of heaven and seek wealth This article could not be clearer. That is, a man's dignity and inferiority are no longer determined by heaven, but can be determined by himself, because he has the right to pass through his own efforts. to change their vocation.

Just when the two parties thought that Duan Hongshi was going to pass this article and launch the Tianyuan Sect to set off a further wave of suppressing Confucianism, the "Yinghua Nengxun" and the "Baicheng Journal" made a different interpretation of the "Theory of Heavenly Duty", which relieved the old Confucianism with the two parties as the backbone.

This is not to suppress Confucianism, on the contrary, to a certain extent, it is similar to the ideas of the old Confucian Stability Society. The interpretation of those sheets of paper is: not in its place. Don't seek their own politics, everyone has their own duty. Whatever your duty is now, do your job well and care about the things around you that concern you.

After thinking about it, the two parties of Confucianism and Xian understood. This "Treatise on the Vocation of Heaven" is actually more aimed at the Heavenly Lord's Religion. It is necessary to establish public opinion and not allow the parishioners to interfere with the world.
