And the relationship between Li Kui and Yan Qing in the last fifty episodes of "Guben Water Margin" is also more reasonable, for example, in the 110th chapter, it is written, "I saw the black whirlwind Li Kui twisting Yan Qing, shouting and making a fuss, until Song Jiang came to him." Song Jiang shouted: "What are you doing here? Li Kui shouted: "Lu Yuan went to Tai'an Prefecture to enter the incense, and I want to go with him." Lu Yuanwai agreed, but Brother Xiaoyi was not allowed to go, I thought that I had followed my brother in the past, and the Daimyo Mansion had to go once, and I couldn't fight for Tai'an, so I was not convinced, and dragged him to this theory. Yan Qing said: "It's not that I don't allow him to go, because Brother Li has a bad face, I'm afraid something will happen." Song Jiang ordered Li Kui to let go, Yan Qing didn't make a sound, turned around and left. Song Jiang scolded: "You black bastard, people have made a wish to enter the incense, there is play, I don't teach you to go down the mountain today, you can do nothing!" Li Kui pouted, silent, and saw that Dai Zong had gone down the mountain again. ”
In this paragraph, Li Kui is unabashed, and when he sees Lu Junyi going to Mount Tai, he wants to follow him to play, without considering that he will bring danger; Lu Junyi had to agree because he cared about Song Jiang's face; Yan Qing resolutely refused to agree considering Lu Junyi's safety, but the way of refusal was kind words, soft and hard. As soon as he saw Li Kui let go, he "didn't make a sound, turned around and left", showing Yan Qing's attitude of avoiding if he can, and not entangled with Li Kui. Although Song Jiang scolded Li Kui, the way he scolded was more like an elder brother treating a disobedient younger brother.
In just a few sentences of dialogue, all the people are brought to life, and the relationship between people is handled very accurately. This is not an easy task, the author must put all the heroes' experiences and personalities in his heart clearly, and let every hero speak and act according to his own wishes and ways, probably only the author of the first seventy episodes, Shi Nai'an himself, can do it, right?
And some readers who read "Water Margin" more deeply pointed out that the last 30 chapters of the 100 books do not have "Water Margin" gas. And what is "Water Margin" gas"? Martial arts? War? Chivalrous and righteous? Neither, because these descriptions are found in many other books, but none of them have the unique feeling of reading "Water Margin" (here referring to the seventy editions).
Some people believe that this "Water Margin" atmosphere comes from a real cruelty, that is, the cruelty of positive characters. Looking at ancient and modern Chinese and foreign literary and artistic works, almost no one depicts the cruelty of positive characters in a positive form, and "Water Margin" abounds.
The cruelty of these positive characters can be divided into several categories:
The first category is the cruelty of the general life of the positive person. This kind of cruelty is most prominent in Li Kui. Because he often kills innocents indiscriminately. When robbing the law field in Jiangzhou. Li Kui is "not asking about the officers and the people, killing corpses everywhere, and bleeding like a canal"; In the fiftieth episode, Li Kui "split the head of a four-year-old Xiao Yanei into two halves"; Later, he also ate the meat of Huang Wenbing and Li Gui. There are many similar descriptions of other heroes: Judge Li Li opened a human flesh workshop. almost killed Song Jiang as well; Boat fire Zhang Heng blocked the road and robbed; Zhang Qing and Sun Erniang opened a black shop to sell human flesh
Look at it from today's perspective. These heroes murder and rob. Evil deeds such as eating human flesh are unforgivable, but in Shi Nai'an's writing, these evil deeds are reduced to small sections. It seems natural, even natural. As long as you carefully study the ancient history, you will find that many famous generals of the rebel army and even the official army were born recklessly, and they have more or less done murder and goods.
In ancient warfare, it was all about fierce hand-to-hand combat, and "killing without blinking" was actually an indispensable quality for an excellent general. How to co-opt those who "kill people without blinking" and control and lead them is often the key to the success of a military strategist and politician. Based on the same considerations, Shi Nai'an was able to describe the hero's evil deeds very naturally and realistically, so that the whole book overflowed with a unique "Water Margin" atmosphere.
The second category is the cruelty of the hero's revenge. The revenge methods of the heroes in "Water Margin" are ruthless, although they are also dripping. But because it hurts the innocent, it is difficult for modern people to accept. When Wu Song Yuanyang Lou took revenge, he not only killed Zhang Dujian, Zhang Tuanlian, and Jiang Menshen, but also killed his wife, adoptive mother Yulan, Yahuan, and servants, and found one to kill the other. The murderers were killed, and the innocent were killed.
This extremely cruel way of revenge appears many times in "Water Margin", and it seems reasonable, and there are probably three reasons for this: first, the ancient moral concept is different from that of modern times, and the time when Shi Nai'an wrote "Water Margin" was the chaotic era at the end of the Yuan Dynasty, and human life was as cheap as mustard, so these cruel ways of revenge in "Water Margin" are extremely natural and painful in the author's opinion. Second, from the point of view at the time, the maid ring and the servants were the property of the master, and killing these people was also revenge on the master, which was also the reason why the heroes of Liangshan often killed the other party when they took revenge. Third, brutal revenge can play a role in deterring the other side, which is also a common means in ancient warfare.
In fact, the cruel revenge methods of positive characters also exist in history and even in modern life, and Shi Nai'an writes about them without shying away from it, showing the author's full understanding of this fact, and these cruel acts in the book further thicken the atmosphere of "Water Margin".
The third category is cruelty that occurs out of the needs of the whole. For example, in the 33rd episode, in order to force Qin Ming to rebel, Song Jiang actually sent someone to pretend to be Qin Ming and burned hundreds of people outside Qingzhou City to the ground, killing countless men and women, and thus harming Qin Ming's wife and children. Later, Song Jiangwu used the same method to force Lu Junyi to rebel, causing Lu Junyi's family to be ruined.
This method is difficult to accept in the world, and Jin Shengxian scolded Song Jiang for being cunning because of this. However, if we take a closer look at the history of warfare in ancient China, similar counter-plots are not uncommon. As one side of the war, it is difficult to survive unless you recruit a wide range of talents, attack the other side, and often do whatever it takes. Although these methods used by Song Jiang were somewhat cruel, they were all necessary for the war and were not understandable to ordinary scholars. Shi Nai'an wrote these out unabashedly, making "Water Margin" particularly strong.
There is no doubt that the atmosphere of "Water Margin" is formed by a cruel authenticity, and because this authenticity is difficult for ordinary literati to understand, it is difficult to be written into the work. And in the last thirty chapters of the hundred-fold book "Water Margin" written by Luo Guanzhong, the green forest spirit of the heroes also changed overnight. Li Kui no longer kills indiscriminately for no reason: in the seventy-second round, Li Kui knocked out the city gate from the capital, although the streets were full of people, he did not kill a single citizen; In the seventy-four episodes, Li Kui did not hurt a single person in Tai'an Prefecture, which you squeezed and I embraced; In addition to the battlefield, Li Kui only killed a pair of adulterers and adulteresses, and he "asked the details before he started", and he became very careful and patient (to be continued......
