At the turn of the two Song Dynasty, Yuelu Academy was looted by war, and in the first year of Gandao (1165), Hunan pacified Liu Heng of Zhitan Prefecture to rebuild Yuelu Academy. During the Chenghua period, the academy began to gradually recover. In the seventh year of Xuande, private funds were raised to promote the earliest restoration of Yuelu Academy.

In the fifth year of Chenghua, Qian Peng, the prefect of Changsha, revived the academy again, but it was soon abandoned again. In the seventh year of Hongzhi, Chen Gang was sentenced by Changsha Prefecture and finally restored Yuelu Academy to its old appearance.

Since the beginning of Xuande, after many repairs and expansions by local officials Chen Gang, Yang Maoyuan, Wang Tao, Wu Shizhong, etc., the main building of Yuelu Academy was concentrated on the central axis for the first time.
