Chapter Forty-Nine: Just Talking Is Better Than Nothing

Of course, Yang Zhen asked the Soviet Pacific Fleet to assist in training a group of long-range pilots, but he did not receive much assistance from the Soviet side, which was worried about angering the Japanese, and in this regard, the Soviets only provided a batch of sextants for sea positioning, and within two months, trained 20 crews and 40 navigators for the Anti-Japanese Union.

All the learning experience of these twenty crews and forty navigators in the Soviet Union, except for the use of instrument flight and positioning with a sextant at sea, was to fly the Il-4 bomber several times in accordance with its maximum radius of movement, over the already snow-white Sea of Okhotsk.

All the actual combat training, that is, the target of a deserted island off the coast of Kamchatka, each plane dropped a few bombs, and as for the rest, nothing was learned, and in less than three months, these air personnel returned home, and the degree was beyond human imagination.

Yang Zhen was not too surprised by the Soviet Union's perfunctory measures in this regard, nor did he pursue it too much, because the Soviet army, which lacked experience in long-range bombing and long-distance flight at sea, could only train pilots to respond to emergencies.

Its real combat capability is far from that of the Japanese naval aviation that took off from Jeju Island many times to carry out cross-sea bombing after the July 7 Incident, and the Japanese naval aviation units that have received special training still have quite a lot of experience in this regard, compared with the Soviet side, which is too far behind.

Yang Zhen also did not expect that they would be able to train many talents for the Anti-Japanese Federation under the condition that their own strength was not strong, in fact, the twenty flight instructors who were selected and sent were all cadres at the level of squadron leader, and after the battle on the Songhua River, they were trained on the ground by captured Japanese naval aviation long-range bomber pilots and navigators.

For Yang Zhen, it is best that the Soviets are willing to provide local training, and there is nothing to blame for their unwillingness, because before the arrival of a large amount of aid from the Americans, there were not many bombers that could reach the Japanese mainland during the voyage of the Anti-Japanese Alliance, and even if a large number of pilots were trained, it would be in vain if there were no bombers.

Moreover, the Soviets' long-range navigation capabilities and long-distance flight bombing capabilities are too different from those of the British, which can be fully seen from the few failed experiences of the Soviets in bombing Germany since the outbreak of the Soviet-German war.

This is still a naval bomber flying regiment that specializes in flying over the sea, and after changing to the air force that was supposed to carry out strategic bombing missions, the appearance is not only not improved, but on the contrary, it seems to be even worse; more than ten bombers are often dispatched, only a few have found their targets, and the rest do not know where they have flown to, and the battle damage rate suffered is far higher than the results of their bombing.

The failure of the motive engine, the reasons of the aircraft themselves, and the interception by their own anti-aircraft artillery units and fighter units, which were all soldiers, caused battle losses far higher than the losses under enemy anti-aircraft fire, and even reached the point of sending 12 Pei-8 long-range heavy bombers to bomb Berlin at one time, and only four of them flew to the target.

The rest is either because the lost did not know where to fly, or was beaten down by his own people, and more because of the failure of the motive and crashed in the middle, the Soviet army's long-range bombing tactics, as well as the actual level of training, in Yang Zhen's eyes, can be said to be imbecile.

The consequences of the Great Purge were not only the brains of the Soviet army being shattered, but also the terrible impact of military concepts and training, and this qiē needed to be compensated for with blood on the battlefield.

From the first time of the operation to the complete cessation of the operation due to the impact of the war situation, none of the more than 10 air raids was even barely successful, and the probability of all the air units participating in the war, regardless of whether the navy or air force was lost in the operation, was almost 100 percent.

The Soviet army's example of bombing Germany has shown that with the current capabilities of the Soviet army, it will take a long time to complete the long-distance flight bombing at sea.

After all, a long-distance flight at sea is very different from a long-distance flight over the six grounds, and experience is still quite important in the absence of a reference and the backwardness of the Soviet-made bomber's instruments.

It is only after ground training and experimental flights in six places that it is difficult to meet the needs of sea flights, and this is precisely the most precondition for launching bombing for Japan, as an island country, and the Anti-Japanese Union is not near the sea, so if you want to gain this experience, you can only count on the Soviets for the time being.

If the Soviets really can, Yang Zhen hopes that they can provide another batch of Il-4 bombers to supplement the current situation that the number of long-range bombers of the Anti-United Nations is still somewhat insufficient, as for the rest, he doesn't expect too much.

As early as when the agreement was signed, Yang Zhen didn't care too much about whether the Soviets could fully abide by the agreement in this regard, even if the lieutenant general Ryabishev agreed to include this article without too much hesitation, but in Yang Zhen's view, it was very unlikely that the Soviets, who had always regarded breach of contract as if they were eating, would fully abide by this agreement.

Whether to sign or not to sign is one thing, and whether to execute or not is another thing for the Soviets, although under the persecution of the war, the Soviets will not turn their faces like turning the same page as before, but there are some aspects, especially when it comes to the interests of the Soviet Union, they will not take it as a thing at all.

However, Yang Zhen did not expect that although the Soviets had only trained 20 crews and 40 navigators, they had transferred the latest medium bomber Yeer-2 bomber, which had been discontinued by the Soviet Union due to the war, and more than 60 of them that had survived by the end of the year, along with all the drawings, to the Anti-Japanese Union.

Forcibly exchanged 120 Su-2 light bombers from the Anti-Japanese Alliance, all of which still had combat effectiveness, for this deal, in fact, Yang Zhen was very dissatisfied, the Yeer-2 bomber had a range of more than 4,000 kilometers, and the bomb load of one ton with a range of more than 2,000 kilometers was indeed far enough to meet the needs of the Anti-United Nations.

However, the reliability of this kind of aircraft is really too poor, especially the reliability of the motive, it is like a pile of garbage, and when the first batch of six bombers delivered by the Soviet side arrived at the test flight of the Anti-United Nations, four of them were lying on their stomachs because of the failure of the motive.

The remaining two, and one of them, all failed five minutes after takeoff, and one was planted directly to the ground, fortunately, the flight altitude was not high at that time, and the motive of these planes was not good, but the body was quite strong, and several flight crew members were only slightly injured.

Where did Yang Zhen dare to ask for such a bomber, this was not to send his pilots to the sky to participate in the war, but to directly let them go to hell, but the Soviets forced the Anti-Japanese Federation to agree to the exchange by driving back all the students in the Soviet Union to resist the United Nations.

After the Soviets lost all the forward bases for bombing Germany, these long-range bombers also lost all their role, and these Yeer-2 bombers had relatively high requirements for the airport runway and could not be used as front-line bombers.

Of course, Yang Zhen finally nodded, or because the Americans agreed to coordinate with the British to give the Anti-United Nations performance of no less than seventy Battle light bombers as compensation, Yang Zhen did not want to do this deal at all, the British light bomber, the performance is above the Su-2 light bomber, if you can get a batch of natural good things, it can effectively relieve the pressure of the Anti-United Nations A20 attack aircraft.

In fact, although Yang Zhen doesn't like the Su II light bomber very much, because the armor of this aircraft is a little too thin, and the self-defense firepower is also very poor, but its maneuvering performance is good, and the requirements for the airport are extremely low, compared with the Soviet sB series bombers, the range is much farther, not to mention, the bomb load is not much less.

The most important thing is the maneuverability and maintenance, as well as the adaptability to the front-line airfield, far better than the sB series bombers, currently used as a front-line support tactical bomber, the performance is still not backward, for the Anti-United Nations to take the Il 4 bomber and dB 3 such a bomber with a range of more than 2,000 kilometers, to do the front-line bomber is really a waste.

However, the number of A-20 attack planes is still insufficient, and although the Su-2 light bombers are becoming more and more unable to meet the needs, they are still better than nothing, and the transfer of these 120-odd planes will weaken the already weak ground support capability of the anti-United Nations air force.

Bombing against Japan is a necessity for Yang Zhen, but now Yang Zhen knows very well that before the return of the personnel who stayed in Britain, it can only be symbolic and carry out strategic bombing against Japan.

Moreover, although the range of the Il-4 and dB-3 bombers is sufficient, the flight instruments are too rudimentary, and the self-defense capability is too poor; if they take off from Mudanjiang and Jiamusi, the bomb load of the large voyage to the Japanese mainland is only 750 kilograms, and if we want to wait until the bombing of Japan is really rolled out in an all-round way and really reaches the scale, we still have to wait for the bombers promised by the United States and Britain to be in place, and the Soviet-made bombers, at least for the time being, will not be able to undertake this task.

Not to mention that these extremely unreliable Yeer-2 bombers are the long-range bombers with the best performance of the Soviet army at present, and the Il-4 bombers cannot meet the scale of bombing against Japan that they require, but before the arrival of US and British aid, after all, these Soviet-made bombers will have to hold out for a while, at least until the arrival of US and British aid.

In order for the United States and Britain to prove their determination to cooperate with them in battle, in exchange for more equipment, Yang Zhen did not want to change those planes that could carry out tactical bombing on the Japanese mainland at this time.

Moreover, he also needs these large-range bombers to launch a certain strategic scale air attack on the Japanese North China Front and even the Japanese army in Central China, mainly on the communication lines, in the next stage of the operation, so as to curb the movement of the Japanese army in Guannai and achieve the conditions for the next stage of the operation.

Under the premise that the number of these two aircraft is limited, it is impossible to switch to front-line support, and under this premise, Yang Zhen is naturally unwilling to take these front-line tactical bombers whose performance can roughly meet the needs of the Anti-United Nations to replace those so-called long-range bombers with extremely poor reliability.
