In particular, after the founding of the Republic of China, due to strategic considerations, Japan changed its previous policy toward Taiwan from "industrial Japan and agricultural Taiwan" to "industrial Taiwan and agricultural Nanyang (to put it bluntly, it is actually importing grain from Thailand)". As a result, Taiwan's industry has developed rapidly, and in 1932, the ratio of Taiwan's agricultural output value to industrial output value has reached 6:4, while the mainland at that time only reached 9.03:0.7 (not counting the three eastern provinces that have fallen), and if we take power generation as an example, Taiwan's per capita annual power generation is more than 200 times that of the mainland. In terms of education, Taiwan is also far ahead of the mainland (although strictly speaking, Taiwan's literacy rate was higher than that of the mainland long before the First Sino-Japanese War, and it was not all developed after the Japanese occupation). Even if the population of all ages is counted (in 1914, the school attendance rate of children aged 6-14 in Taiwan exceeded 70%), even if primary school graduation is required, being able to read, write and arithmetic, Taiwan's literacy rate now exceeds 80%, even compared with Japan, it is not inferior, and under the same standard (the Republic of China and even the early days of liberation, as long as the mainland knows some commonly used words, it is considered literate, the standard is very low, primary school to the fourth or fifth grade, that is, the so-called high primary school, The average literacy rate in the mainland may even be only 5%
Taiwan's relatively solid economic foundation has made it more resilient to expropriation, and the Japanese authorities, who regard it as a "quasi-local" country, have always been much more polite to Taiwan than to North Korea (Note 1), so that the living standards of the Taiwanese people have dropped significantly, but they are not unsurvivable.
The situation in North Korea, on the other hand, was completely different, and the people's lives were already hard enough, but the exploitation and oppression of the Japanese authorities were even more cruel, and suddenly the Korean Peninsula was full of starvation. No matter how docile people are. When you really can't survive, you may have the courage to work hard. Although most of the guerrillas sent back to Korea by the Anti-Japanese Federation were exterminated by the Japanese army, some of them were spared thanks to their efforts. The Korean people were no longer completely deceived by the Japanese authorities as before, and they began to understand the successive victories of the Chinese army against the Japanese invading army, and also knew that there were still unyielding warriors among the Korean nation, so more and more people rose up to fight the Japanese army. This caused a headache for the Japanese army base camp command, which was already short of troops.
In desperation, they had to follow the example of the Song Dynasty in China and began to uncharacteristically recruit a large number of Koreans as soldiers, so that there was cannon fodder available at the front. The Korean people will also lose the ability to resist Japanese tyranny because of the large number of young people being siphoned off. However, out of distrust of the combat effectiveness and loyalty of the Koreans, the Japanese army base camp newly formed 300,000 Korean troops (including 3 field divisions with more than 20,000 troops, 5 security divisions with more than 10,000 troops, and 20 garrisons or independent garrisons). Most of the officers (above the rank of Juncho) are Japanese, and even if the Korean soldiers are strong and meritorious, they can only be promoted to the captain of the Nakasa Brigade at most, and the difficulty is not ordinarily great, and this obvious ethnic discrimination has undoubtedly planted a time bomb in the Korean army. It's not that no one among the Japanese is aware of this, but what can they do? Trust the sticks of these colonies with all your heart? It's just cannon fodder. Sooner or later, they will be consumed, so why bother for them, but they will be criticized by the people?
Although the positioning of the North Korean army is cannon fodder, after all, there are 300,000 people, and they are all strong (North Korea has a population of about 20 million at this time, and only 300,000 people are selected. The quality is still okay. Even if it can only be trained to the level of the puppet Manchu army, it can have a certain combat effectiveness. Under the premise that the weapons and supply conditions are the same, it should be used for defense as much as the 200,000 Japanese troops whose quality has now declined significantly, and even in the field, it will not be weaker than the 100,000 Japanese troops.
In order to "recover" the "lost territory" of Manchuria, which was of great importance to Japan, as soon as possible, the Japanese army base camp focused its work on the training and equipment of the Korean army and Japanese recruits, and had no intention or ability to get involved in the civil war in China. In fact, the Japanese army base camp headquarters once even wanted to take the initiative to abandon Pingjin, transfer all its troops to the north and take away all the materials, join forces with the Japanese army in Hailar, and wait until the "Manchurian Spring Offensive" in Jihua against the spring sowing of the North Manchurian base area of the Anti-United Nations began to let it attack the flank of the anti-United Nations base area. It was also considered by later historians to be one of Japan's most significant strategic mistakes during World War II
There was no major movement of the Japanese army, and the 15th Group Army, which was originally ordered to guard against the Japanese army and Lao Chiang, was useless, and because the national army in the Central Plains had all been wiped out or defeated by the Japanese army, and Shang Zhen, the former chairman of Henan Province, had a good relationship with the Red Party, so after the victory of the Central Plains General Battle, the Central Plains Border District Government directly sent cadres to take over the political power in Zhengzhou, Kaifeng, and other places, and there was no need to fight at all. Therefore, the 15th Group Army did not exchange fire with the Nationalist army, but only sent a part of its men and horses to make a feint in the direction of Wuhan
Although it was just a feint, the national army didn't know it? In addition, the 15th Group Army is now recognized as the strongest army in China, even if it cannot be confirmed whether it is true or false, Lao Chiang did not dare to take risks, when the army that was about to besiege the Fujian-Jiangxi border area was transferred back, so that the total number of defenders in Wuhan and its surroundings exceeded 800,000 again, and the two main forces of the New Fourth Army, the first and fourth detachments, took the opportunity to return to help, recovered all the lost territory in the Fujian-Jiangxi border area, and even took advantage of the opportunity of the retreat of the main force of the national army to take some areas in southern Zhejiang that were abandoned by the Red Army in accordance with the agreement when the Red Army was reorganized, and further expanded the base area. The Fujian-Jiangxi border area has also been restored to the Fujian-Zhejiang-Jiangxi border area
Note 1: At that time, the average salary of Japanese in Taiwan was about twice that of Taiwanese, but considering that the work of Japanese in Taiwan was generally higher than that of Taiwanese locals (historically, many factories in Taiwan after the war could not operate normally or even closed down due to the departure of Japanese management and jishu personnel, and it was not until Lao Chiang fled to Taiwan and received US aid that Taiwan's economy began to recover.) Japan's exploitation of Taiwan at that time was not very harsh, to put it mildly, this gap is actually much smaller than the current wage gap between foreigners and Chinese in China (to be continued). )
