If nothing else, it was only a matter of time before Kornilov and Denikin turned against each other, but all this was unknown to the Bolshevik Politburo and Li Xiaofeng, who were far away in Petrograd. Not only did it not know that relations between Kornilov and Denikin were about to break down, but also that the socialist-revolutionary localities were secretly contacting the forces of the old military officers and preparing for a coup d'Γ©tat.
It has to be said that without the intelligence from a certain immortal, the Bolshevik intelligence agencies are still very rudimentary and powerless at present, and may be able to monitor some key large cities, such as Petrograd and Moscow. But far from the core of Russia, such as Ukraine, the Ural Mountains and the Far East, there is almost a blank slate.
In reality the situation was far more serious than the Bolsheviks knew, and not only were the old forces in Russia ready to move, but the Japanese in the Far East had already begun to gather forces and be ready to send troops to Russia.
Under this undercurrent, Petrograd was even in a state of optimism, and the Politburo and the Central Committee were more concerned and discussed about the question of moving the capital.
In March, the Politburo had a plan to relocate the capital to Moscow. The main reason is that the location of Petrograd is a bit different, and with the independence of Finland, the three Baltic states have followed suit and set up their own doors. This makes Petrograd, which originally had Poland, Ukraine, the three Baltic states, and Finland as its depths, suddenly a little exposed to the national border.
From Petrograd to the north, it takes less than thirty kilometers to reach Finland, to the west. That is, more than 200 kilometers to Estonia. It's not nice to say. Today's Petrograd has a little bit of the meaning of the Son of Heaven guarding the country.
Naturally, such an environment could not reassure the Bolshevik Politburo, even if the Brest Pact was concluded, but who could guarantee that the Germans would not be capricious? Nowadays, the three Baltic states, Belarus, and Ukraine can see the shadow of the Germans everywhere, and if one is not done well, the enemy's army may come to the city.
No matter how you look at Petrograd, it seems that Moscow, which is still landlocked, is safer and more reassuring. At least the strategic depth is greater, it takes time for the enemy to come over, and it is convenient to run from the rear. What's more, Moscow was originally the capital of Russia, and there was no political problem in moving back.
Some comrades may want to say that the Bolsheviks were too unambitious, and they had stage fright before the start of the fight, and they fled from the original revolutionary holy land in disgrace, which seems to be unpleasant!
But think about it the other way, can this thing be eaten as a meal? Is face or lining? In February, when the Germans launched a stormy offensive. There was a time when Petrograd was really in jeopardy. Even the Mentor had to call on the workers of Petrograd to take up arms and prepare to defend the capital.
It's not a good feeling to dance on the tip of a knife, but if you let the instructor choose it yourself. It would be better to find a safer place to guide the revolutionary struggle throughout the country. At least there is no need to worry about hitting Petrograd without paying attention to the enemy, and then having to rush to defend the capital.
Not long after the outbreak of the Russian Civil War, the White Army of the three Baltic states, supported by the forces of foreign intervention, gathered an army and rapidly advanced in the direction of Petrograd, which for a time made the Bolsheviks very embarrassed. Just imagine, if the central organs of the Bolsheviks had remained in Petrograd, I am afraid that they would have had fun.
Moreover, moving the capital to Moscow is not only safe, but also of considerable political significance, Moscow is inland, surrounded by the most economically and industrially developed regions of Russia, and controlling this area is equivalent to controlling Russia's throat.
From the course of the Russian civil war, it can also be seen that this area is too important, even if the White Army is arrogant for a period of time, but the area they occupy is not industrially developed, and it is not a continuous blood transfusion for their army. And the Red Army even after a lot of attrition, and the industrial base in the rear is constantly arming new armies.
Compared with the two, one side is getting weaker and weaker, and the other side is getting stronger and stronger, and it is naturally clear who wins and who loses.
It should be said that moving the capital to Moscow was right for the Bolsheviks, and of course, this also meant that Russia's 300-year foreign expansion had come to an end, and that Russia had begun to shrink from expansion. Although this historical process was repeated in the next 100 years, and even the arrogance of the Soviet Empire was once unstoppable, it later proved to be the general trend of history and unstoppable.
But that's a distant stretch now, and with the move of the capital to Moscow on the Politburo's agenda, quite a few issues will have to be resolved. The relocation of the central organs and the transfer of personnel were inevitable at a time when the official register system was about to take shape.
What a heartbeat! With the reversal of functions between Petrograd and Moscow, it means that the various political forces within the party must rearrange and start a new round of political transactions. Before that, it is necessary to take stock of the gains and losses of the major forces in the previous stage.
There is no need to calculate too much, in the previous round of the struggle, the Leninists definitely gained the greatest, and it goes without saying that Lenin won a complete victory on the Brest Pact, and he could win a lot of points just in the advance layout of Moscow.
Because of Li Xiaofeng's active efforts, the Leninists had an absolute advantage in Moscow, and not only did someone himself hold an important post in the Moscow Cheka, but although Muralov did not completely control the Moscow Oblast Party Committee, he still had a great deal of power in the Moscow Party Committee after being forced to run a full-time study class.
Let's not forget the power of Frunze, who controlled Moscow's military command, and Stalin, who had been repeatedly attacked, but also had considerable influence in Moscow. If the above-mentioned men and the like had been able to work together, Trotsky would not have been able to mix up in Moscow at all, and his power in Moscow would have been almost blank.
Therefore, before the decision to move the capital was formally adopted, Trotsky had to do a little work, otherwise he would go to Moscow naked. I'm afraid he's going to be exposed.
"I personally agree with the resolution on moving the capital to Moscow. In the current situation. In order to carry out the revolutionary work in a better way, it is necessary to go to the heart of Russia to carry out the work, and the situation in Moscow is very good in all respects, which is conducive to our work, but it is ......"
At this, Trotsky suddenly paused, glanced at Lenin very meaningfully, and said cautiously: "But moving the capital is a very complicated task. Before moving the capital, we must consider the relevant situation as a whole, consider all kinds of issues clearly, and formulate a comprehensive plan and plan to implement it! β
Although Trotsky spoke beautifully, everyone in this room knew what his intentions were. This guy is probably going to bargain and try to improve the living environment after moving the capital to Moscow.
However, for a time no one dared to speak up, including Stalin and Sverdlov, the Leninist bigwigs were paying attention to the mentor, and he did not express his opinion first. Who dares to speak?
Lenin, however, did not seem to realize that he was in the limelight, and that he was even a little absent-minded at the moment. It seems that he doesn't care about moving the capital to Moscow at all.
It wasn't until the entire conference room fell into an eerie silence that the tutor reacted in hindsight and said casually: "Everyone can express their opinions and speak freely......
Dropping this sentence, his old man seemed to be out of the world again, which made the Leninist bigwigs present secretly anxious, and they all complained a little bit about the teacher: "What's wrong with your old man today, why is he out of state." Don't you see that Trotsky is a bit of a sharpening of his knives? β
Not to mention, Trotsky was really sharpening his sword, especially after he noticed Lenin's absent-mindedness, and immediately and categorically swung the first sword: "In order to move the capital to Moscow safely and smoothly, it is necessary first to do a good job of security...... At present, there are a large number of counter-revolutionaries operating throughout Russia, and it is conceivable that they will definitely make a move when they learn of our plan to move the capital......"
At this point, Trotsky stopped again, he looked at Lenin again, and he was about to get straight to the point, and if Lenin suddenly "came to his senses" at this time, it would be a great disastrous. But when Lenin was still so insensitive, Trotsky was both relieved and surprised, Lenin's state today is indeed very strange, what is the matter?
Strange as strange as it was, Trotsky naturally did not swallow it back, he took a deep breath and said aloud: "In view of this complex situation, the tasks and responsibilities of the Moscovy Cheka are very difficult, and they will be severely tested...... Personally, although I am full of confidence in the comrades of the Moscow Cheka and believe that they are a team that can fight tough battles, I am afraid that some objective problems will drag them back! β
At this point, Trotsky simply could not wait, and poured out all the words that followed in one breath, as if he were afraid of being interrupted: "Comrade Andrei has been presiding over the work of the Moskskka Cheka, and his work ability has been unanimously praised by the Central Committee, but in the previous paragraph he was seriously wounded in order to protect Comrade Lenin because of the attack of foreign assassins. Now he is recuperating in Petrograd, and the work of moving the capital is imminent. Shall we temporarily choose another comrade to take over his work? β
Trotsky's words may sound unsubstantial, but they are in fact so. On this issue, Lao Tuo is indeed lacking in confidence. First of all, someone's ability to work is really unquestionable, and secondly, someone's previous contribution is too great. Even if the reality is grim, he doesn't dare to say that he should remove someone and replace it with someone else.
Therefore, in what he said just now, Trotsky repeatedly stressed the excellence of a certain person's work, and said many good things, and when he was at the end of the day, he only dared to say that another comrade was temporarily sent to take over the work of a certain immortal.
It can be seen that Lao Tuo has considerable scruples on this issue, and he is very suspicious that as soon as he puts forward this proposal, he will be attacked head-on by Lenin, after all, someone is Lenin's confidant and has just saved his life. Under these circumstances, Lenin had too many reasons to express his anger and unacceptability, and his anger was able to be unanimously understood by the members of the Central Committee present.
So, after saying this, Trotsky was ready for Lenin's stormy counterattack, he had already drawn up the relevant strategy, and he was confident that he would use this breakthrough to obtain a satisfactory pretext.
It was not only Trotsky who was ready for Lenin's fury. Everyone else here. Including the Leninist Sverdlov and Stalin. As well as Dzerzhinsky, who was not Leninist, was prepared for the same.
However, the content prepared by both sides was a little surprising, and what Sverdlov and Stalin prepared was to echo the advice of the Mentor, and to rush up and beat the water dogs, preparing to take turns to explode Trotsky's chrysanthemums; Dzerzhinsky, on the other hand, was relatively kind-hearted and proceeded from the maintenance of party unity and the interests of the party. He was ready to pull Trotsky at a critical time, lest the goods be slapped in the face so badly that the jar would be broken, which would directly lead to a full-scale outbreak of conflict.
Anyway, both sides have already sounded the alarm of the battle, as soon as Lenin speaks, he will roll up his sleeves and start fighting! But once again, the unexpected happened, and Lenin did not erupt as he had imagined, but on the contrary, he nodded frequently and seemed to approve of Trotsky's speech.
Finally. He also praised Trotsky from the bottom of his heart: "Comrade Trotsky's opinion is very important and very pertinent...... Purge of counter-revolutionaries in Moscow. Maintaining order in the relocation of the capital is a very important and very difficult task...... Well, if Comrade Andrei hadn't been injured, if he could still preside over this work, I wouldn't have to worry about it at all...... Unfortunately, however, his body has not yet recovered, and he is no longer able to preside over this work for the time being. Then it is an inevitable choice to find a suitable comrade to take over his work. What a bloody statement Comrade Trotsky's speech was! β
Both Sverdlov and Stalin's brains were a little short-circuited, and if it weren't for the fact that they were familiar with everything about the Mentor, they really doubted that the Mentor sitting in front of them was a fake. How could you speak to Trotsky? This shouldn't be! You know, the Moscow Cheka is something we didn't get hold of with great difficulty, how do you say that if you give it away, you will send it away? And to Trotsky, the greatest adversary?
Even Trotsky didn't believe his ears a little, he froze. Dzerzhinsky, who was originally going to persuade him to be a peacemaker, frowned slightly, the Man in the Iron Mask seemed to realize something, but he couldn't be completely sure. But he was very clear - Lenin was not out of state, much less speaking to Trotsky, it seemed to be said.
The second to realize this was Trotsky, who soon reacted, and immediately began to nervously calculate, as if to calculate the gains and losses. On the contrary, Sverdlov and Stalin were the slowest to react, and it took them a long time to figure out the twists and turns.
In fact, before the two brothers figured it out, Lenin had already continued to speak: "I don't think there is any need to do anything to temporarily take over, Comrade Andrei's health is not suitable for leading the anti-rebellion work, then temporarily retire and let other comrades replace him, I believe that other comrades in our party will not be worse than him, maybe they can do better!" β
At this time, it is not only a few members of the Politburo who have not enough brains, but most of the members of the Central Committee are stupid, could it be that in the past few days there have been some major events in the party that they do not know about the Tao, so that the mentor has an opinion on someone, otherwise, can someone be removed from his most important position?
There must be some saying in this!
Is that really the case? Definitely not, Lenin is not the master who scolded the cook, recited the scriptures, and crossed the river and demolished the bridge. The reason why he is so generous is indeed profound. I don't believe it, but listen to him and say: "Comrade Trotsky, since you were the first to realize this, you must have a suitable candidate, tell me which comrade you think is more suitable to take over the work of Comrade Andrei!" β
Trotsky cursed in his heart, he had fully understood why Lenin could be so generous, but even if he did, it would be useless, he was the first to provoke this remark, and Lenin was simply pushing the boat with the flow. Thinking of this, he couldn't help but sigh secretly: "Compared with Yangmou, engaging in conspiracy is really the first level!" β
Why do you say that? To find out what kind of confrontation took place between Trotsky and Lenin, it would have to be carefully debated. The most important question is why Trotsky would choose Li Xiaofeng as the breakthrough point. This problem is the most critical, and in a sense, if you figure it out, the following problems will be solved.
So what is it for? There are many reasons, such as the timing is right, Li Xiaofeng is indeed injured, and he is indeed recuperating, and it is obvious that he is not suitable to continue to lead the work of the Moskskva Cheka. Trotsky was a natural candidate for attacking this question, and no one dared to say that he was unreasonable.
Even if Lenin admired and liked a certain immortal, if he insisted on opposing it, the matter was not on his side. In other words, if the mentor wants to keep the position of an immortal, then it is inevitable to use his authority and some political resources.
What Trotsky hoped for most was a situation in which Lenin would use more political resources and the more authority he wielded, the more advantageous it would be for his subsequent actions.
For what? This was said before when Stalin grabbed a seat for Ordzhonikidze. There are also unspoken rules in the mixed political arena, and no one can do everything without pulling out a dime, not even a great teacher like Lenin.
If he invests too many resources in Li Xiaofeng's work to eliminate public opinion or something, then he will have to give in on the later issues. As for Trotsky, he simply wanted to use the question of Li Xiaofeng's work to force Lenin to make concessions! (To be continued......)
PS: It's too powerful to kill Comrade Potato in seconds, it's not enough to bow and thank, I can only thank you on the ground!
