18. Lame Donald (below)
Two months later, New Mexico.
Astronomer Jane. Foster had finally finished her master's thesis, and it was time for her to leave the place where she had lived for more than three months.
Her companion Eric. Dr. Shavig with her hired assistant, Daisy, a college junior. Louise was already a little impatient.
Although the scenery of this town is good, and although it is very free to stay here, it is not as comfortable as life in the big city.
"Here, secret barbecue!"
Thor in an apron placed a large plate of roast meat on the table in the garage, young Daisy brandished a knife to cut off a piece to taste, and Dr. Eric was still sorting through the papers, and a quiet Jane was packing her clothes.
They were on their plane tomorrow morning, and they were going back to New York, and Jane and Dr. Eric had to make a trip to Europe, and they probably couldn't go back to this place for a long time.
So this meal is equivalent to a casual meal for this small team.
"Wow, this meat is awesome."
Daisy, a lively girl, said to Thor, who was drinking beer, while cutting the meat:
"How did you make it?"
"Secret."
Thor blinked, and he said:
"If I can't find a job in the future, I'll have to rely on this money to support myself, which can't be revealed casually."
"Thor, aren't you really going to New York with us?"
Dr. Eric smelled the aroma of roasted meat, and the worms in his stomach gurgled and kept him from working.
After weighing for a few seconds, he decisively left his chair and sat down at the table, and while eating, he said to Thor:
"I have some friends in New York, maybe I can introduce you to a job."
"No, Eric, thank you for your kindness."
Thor was very open-minded.
As he said, the difficult thing is the process of making a decision, and once a decision is made, the rest of the matter is not so difficult.
Leaning back in his chair, putting his cane aside, and sipping his beer lazily, he said:
"I was very busy before, and now that I'm free, I'm going to relax for a while, don't worry about me, if I decide to go to that New York, I'll reach out to you."
As he spoke, he took out his phone from his pocket and shook it, and he said:
"I have your phone number."
"Okay."
Dr. Eric no longer persuaded Thor, and when he lived to his age, he knew very well that there was no such thing as an inseparable feast in this world, and they had been together for more than 2 months, and it might be time to say goodbye.
"Thor, those things you told me are interesting."
After a few moments, Jane walked to the table, and in her hand she had a notebook, and the pretty, maroon hair, and brown-eyed intellect said to Thor:
"I've been studying it lately, and I've found that your theory is internally logically self-consistent, and although it sounds a bit unbelievable and completely contrary to the existing theoretical basis of astronomy, maybe, maybe your theory is right."
She looked at Thor and said:
"I will continue to research, and if there are results in the future, I will share this honor with you."
"No, Jane, no."
With a wave of his hand, as if he didn't care about anything, he took a sip of his beer, and said:
"I don't know much, in our place, according to you, I'm a proper scumbag, I just told you the most basic things, and the rest is your own research."
"It's as if I was just a sentry and brought you into battle, and you killed the enemy general with your own hands, and you deserve that honor, and you don't need to share it with anyone."
At this, Thor turned his head and winked at Jane, and said:
"What's more, I still need to keep a low profile, I don't have an ID, I don't have a driver's license, I don't have a passport, I'm a 'black household' now, it's not good to be too famous."
Jane was about to say something, but Dr. Eric, who was beside her, suddenly raised his bottle, and he said in a loud voice:
"Come, celebrate the completion of Jane's thesis, and celebrate the successful conclusion of our scientific expedition this time, everyone can let go and drink tonight, and tomorrow morning, we will go home."
"Cheers!"
Daisy, a young girl with a mouth full of oil on barbecue, also raised her bottle and cheered, and Thor would not refuse an invitation from a friend to drink.
All in all, the meal was enjoyable and comfortable.
After more than an hour, Thor limped back to his RV with a drunken Dr. Eric, and Jane sent the drunken Daisy back to her room, and she began to clean up the table, with Thor helping with a cane.
"Thor."
As Thor moved the table to the other side of the garage, Jane, behind him, suddenly said:
"Are you really a prince?"
"Why do you ask?"
Thor turned his head and smiled against the wall, looking at Jane with flushed cheeks.
The always restrained astronomer had drunk a lot of it tonight, and Thor looked at her, and he pointed to his head and jokingly said:
"Don't you know everything? I was babbling gibberish for the past few days, well, getting hit by Daisy's car and being shot with a taser by that crazy girl that short-circuited my brain. β
"Can a person with a short-circuited brain suddenly become a genius?"
Jane picked up her notebook, and she walked over to Thor, and she said:
"I don't believe an ordinary person would know this... These terms, which are based on myths and legends, have combined some of the truths of this group of stars before my eyes in a very scientific, even extremely advanced way. β
"I'm a scientist, Thor."
Jane stood in front of Thor, her eyes a little misty, and she said to Thor:
"I don't believe in myths, but I believe in data and what I've researched with my own hands... You know this, it's definitely not something you imagined, you're from another world, right? β
"A world more advanced than Earth, a world that has broken through the mysteries of the stars, I guess... You weren't talking gibberish, you were Thor! The legendary Thor God! β
"No, Jane."
Thor's head was not overlooked, he did not look into Jane's eyes, he whispered:
"I'm not, I'm just an expulsee, I'm an ordinary person, just like you."
"You used to be!"
Jane was unrelenting, she grasped Thor's collar with some indulgence, and under the influence of alcohol, she said to the lame, mysterious, handsome, and manly young man in front of her:
"You can't fool me, Thor, you were once the legendary Thor. The night we met you, neither Eric nor Daisy saw it, but I did, the sudden halo of light, it was like a passage..."
"That's the Rainbow Bridge, right? You emerged from that rainbow bridge, and then in the wind and sand, Daisy accidentally bumped into you. β
Jane looked Thor in the eye and said:
"You liar! You lied to us, you lied to everyone. β
"You're drunk, Jane."
Thor stretched out his hand, gently placed it on Jane's shoulder, pushed Jane back with the smell of wine, and whispered:
"It's time to get some rest, you're going to fly tomorrow."
"I want you to come with me, Thor."
Jane shook Thor's hand, and the always urbane astronomer spoke his mind at this moment, saying:
"I can help you, Thor, you can tell me more, I can continue to work on the theory of the Rainbow Bridge, and maybe one day, I can send you home."
"I can't go home."
Thor looked Jane in the eye, and he said with a little sadness:
"I was banished because I foolishly adhered to my principles that I would spend my life on earth."
"Is there any rule in your principles that when a lady invites you, you will rudely refuse her?"
Jane snorted, and in the garage light, she looked at Thor, and she said:
"Eric always treats me like a child, but I'm an adult and I know how to organize my life... And you..."
Jane stretched out her fingers and stroked Thor's beard, and she said flirtatiously:
"There are very few men as masculine as you, so let's just be... Make a great memory, okay? β
"You're drunk, Jane."
Thor resisted a little, but the next moment, Jane's hand went all the way down Thor's waist, and she winked at Thor, and she said:
"I say no, but my body is very honest."
"Well, you clever woman!"
Thor sighed, and he picked Jane up by the waist, and in Jane's exclamation, he said:
"That's what happened to you for provoking Thor."
And outside the garage, on a branch in the darkness, Merlin stood silently, and said to the equally silent raven Moonin beside him:
"I remember, Thor has a fiancΓ©e, right? It's Sif , right? β
"Sif is the princess chosen for Thor by his good brother Odin and his wife Frigga, but Asgard does not have a fiancΓ©e."
"And according to our observations, Thor and Sif grew up playing together, and he regarded Sif more as a brother... We also saw that Sif waited for Thor in the garden all night, but Thor preferred to drink with his brother until late at night. β
The raven Muning rattled and said:
"Thor may have never been in love with a woman... This Midgart woman undoubtedly attracted his interest, and perhaps it was a good thing. β
"But it seems to me that it's more of a matter of lust."
Merlin pushed his glasses, and he explained in a very professional tone:
"Thor has made a decision, he doesn't want to bow to Odin, he thinks he's right, and for that, he'd rather give up the possibility of returning to Asgard."
"But the decision was heavy, and it made Thor depressed for a while, and Jane worked and lived with him every day, and she was a very good woman herself, and it was not surprising that the two of them were united by suppressed desires."
"But is there really love between him and Jane? I doubt it..."
Merlin shook his head, he sighed, the sight reminded him of himself and Carol, and he said:
"It's a pity that I've met Sif that general really seems to have feelings for Thor, which means that Thor can't control the lower half of his body, and he got himself in trouble, just tonight..."
"It's a shame that he's saddled with a love debt."
"We don't understand what you're talking about."
Muning raised his head and said to Merlin:
"After all, we're just a bird, and we don't need to fall in love, as long as we need it, the female ravens in the entire divine domain are our lovers! Also, what are you going to wait for to send that thing to Thor? β
"There's no hurry."
Merlin stood on a branch and looked at the two people in the window who were churning in desire, and he took out his pocket watch and looked at the time, and he said:
"Thor and Jane reckon they'll have to wait a while. I'm more curious, why did Odin suddenly make this decision? Didn't he want Thor's experience to be interfered with by outside forces? β
"Good brother is not wanted."
Moonin shook its head, and it said:
"But the good brother also doesn't want to see his son on earth reduced to doing odd jobs and picking up garbage for a living."
"Thor was active as a warrior in the first half of his life, he knew almost nothing but fighting, and now the earth is changing too fast, and the good brother realizes that he is somewhat reckless in making decisions, so he makes amends..."
"You can't let Thor make a living fighting on Earth as well."
"So what?"
Merlin grimaced, and he said to the raven:
"Do you want me to get him another decent job? Do you want me to find him another apartment? Did you help him pay for the room again? Come on, I'm not Thor's babysitter. β
"I didn't let you do it for nothing!"
Muning screamed:
"Good brother paid you!"
"Or you'll get that rune magic book back now! Let's go find someone else to do it, and it's not just one person on Earth who has a connection to Asgard. β
"No, no, no, I mean..."
Merlin squinted, he looked at Moonin, and he said:
"This remedy doesn't look like Odin made it, and I don't think a real king would go back on his word..."
"Tell me honestly, who instructed this?"
Under Merlin's gaze, the raven Mu Ning looked a little weak, it turned its head, and covered its face with its wings, and after a few seconds, Mu Ning said a little unwillingly:
"Well, you clever Midgard..."
"This is really not the request of the good brother Odin, the good brother is still fighting, he doesn't have the energy to care about this."
"It's the queen of heaven, Frigga asks, she can't disobey Odin's decision, but she still wants her son to be comfortable in Midgard, and it won't affect Thor's trial anyway."
"Sure enough."
Merlin nodded, and he asked solemnly:
"Are you sure that I helped out, and I won't be liquidated by Odin in the future, right?"
"Nope! The queen will help you hide this secret. β
Muning comically stretched out his wings and made an oath, saying:
"We won't tell our good brothers about this, we are also afraid that the queen will be angry, and the woman will be ruthless, but it is very scary, especially a powerful wizard like the queen of heaven, she can turn us into roasted quail in minutes, and then be swallowed by that foodie of Vostagg."
"Okay."
Merlin nodded, he had no more problems, and after ten minutes, when Thor and Jane were finally done, Merlin straightened his clothes and fell into the front of the garage.
The trench coat on his body quickly changed into the uniform that EMS delivery men often wear, and he had an extra hat on his head.
Merlin rubbed his face and changed his appearance, he reached out in front of the garage and knocked on the door, and he said:
"Is Mr. Donald here? Donald. Mr. Black? Are you there, please? β
"Here's your package, please check it, thank you."
Soon, Thor was limping out of the garage in a pair of shorts, and he looked at the delivery man standing at the door suspiciously, and said:
"There's no one named Donald here, you sent the wrong one."
"Didn't you?"
Merlin feigned confusion and took something out of his pocket, which he turned over, and said:
"But you look exactly like him..."
"Look, here's your lost passport, driver's license, and identification, Mr. Donald, and your acceptance letter to Columbia University Medicine, so be sure to take these important things with you."
"And, congratulations, Mr. Donald, you're probably going to be a doctor in a few years, and it's the highest-paying and most respected profession of the moment."
Thor stepped forward with a frown, and he took the package from Merlin.
He looked at the passport with his portrait on it, and the note on it, and after a moment he looked at Merlin, who had changed his appearance, and said:
"Who sent these things?"
"Oh, this one."
Merlin took out a pen and asked Thor to sign the package, and he said casually:
"It's a kind person named Frigga who picked up these things you lost and commissioned us to send them."
"What a kind lady."
