Chapter 613: Who's the Director?
The last effort of the Skrulls failed to do any substantial damage, but the impact was considerable. The armies of all governments on the planet were alarmed, and the people were terrified. Another group of doomsayers jumped out and said that the government was withholding information, that the earth was finished, that humanity had been secretly infiltrated into a sieve by aliens, and that the earth had long been occupied, but we didn't know it yet.
Even if the last Skrull was shot down and the crisis was officially declared over, and all the Skrull spies had been eliminated, those people wouldn't believe it. They are more inclined to believe that the government is deliberately concealing the report to avoid panic, and even some radical people feel that the government has been controlled by aliens, which is their means of controlling human society.
On the other hand, there is another group of people who have neither seen the ship nor luckily did not have a Skrull spy, and even in the midst of the news media, they still stubbornly believe that the "alien invasion" has been a rumor and a ruse of the government from the beginning. They are paranoid that the government is doing this to raise tax rates and squeeze their hard-earned money, which makes people laugh and cry.
Thankfully, the Skrulls' plan went bankrupt while it was still in the making, and it may not have a big impact on Earth, but it did have a big impact on many of the people involved.
Let's say Agent Grant Ward. When he was rescued and returned to Earth, he was shocked to learn that the Skrull spy disguised as himself seemed to have done something he hadn't dared to do for a long time - that the thing had confessed to Daisy Johnson on his behalf.
And then to make matters worse, he heard that the damn spy's confession seemed to have been rejected by the other party......
He didn't even know if it was a good thing or a bad thing.
It stands to reason that this should have nothing to do with him, but for a long time after that, he would subconsciously turn his head and not make eye contact with her every day when he saw Daisy, so as to avoid embarrassment. Daisy also seems to be deliberately avoiding his gaze, and the atmosphere between the two teammates becomes subtle and awkward.
However, after communicating with some of the other friends in the bureau, Agent Ward was happy to find that he was not the worst, and there was a buddy who was even worse than him.
It was an agent named Lance Hunt, who had just joined S.H.I.E.L.D. not long ago. The reason why he joined Aegis is because of Aegis's Miss Bionic Bird - Hunter is the ex-husband of Bionic Bird, and the relationship between the two is heating up again for a while, and there are signs of being reunited.
However, Hunter said bitterly that it had taken him months to finally reconquer Miss Bionic Bird, and only rolled the sheets with her last week, only to tell me that she was not himself but a green alien spy?
Hunter bitterly said that Ward's experience was nothing at all, and that his current mood was really the day...... Oh no, it's supposed to be a Skrull......
Although the real android bird came back and told him that he didn't mind, Hunter said that I meow! He felt that he should not be able to get rid of the psychological shadow of aliens for the rest of his life......
This incident involved too widely, and the government, military, and spy agencies were all silently infiltrated into a sieve by aliens, and the responsible persons were naturally indispensable. This part is basically the same in all countries, everyone has a meeting to blame each other, the public says that the public is reasonable, the mother says that the mother is reasonable, anyway, everyone is very tacit to push each other's pots. In the end, everyone voted to see which unlucky person was the one who received the most votes and was the scapegoat for this gross negligence.
Poor Mr. President of the United States has overcome many difficulties before, and he has carried all the crises such as alien invasion and the arrival of the gods, but this time he really can't get over this hurdle. Half of the personnel in the White House were replaced by aliens, not to mention, even Mr. President himself fell. There are even many people who think that the president who gave the surrender speech on TV is not an alien at all, it is himself! They felt that the president was either coerced or really succumbed at that time, but he couldn't run away from this pot anyway!
So Mr. President stepped down, and the vice president, who was lucky not to be touched by aliens, took the position of president temporarily......
In addition to this, the heads of a mess of spy agencies led by the CIA have stepped down.
As the head of the spy, the alien spies are all riding on the face, and they don't even notice the slightest rumor, so what's the use of them?
That is, the braised egg is a little more powerful, and he seems to be the only spy leader who noticed the clues before the aliens even made a move. However, he didn't make a noise or report, but slapped his ass and ran away without saying a word.
From the perspective of a spy, of course, his approach is correct, and the top has been infiltrated into a sieve, so isn't it looking for a pump to report at this time? At this time, it may be the only right option to hide in the dark with a henchman like a boiled egg.
But from an official point of view, it is certainly not in accordance with the charter for boiled eggs to do so. When the catastrophe came, he was obviously aware of it, but he ran away without saying a word, which is called leaving his post without permission.
It just so happened that after experiencing this incident, the boiled egg himself was also reflecting on the positioning of Aegis. S.H.I.E.L.D. is no secret to aliens like the Skrulls, who know the workings of Aegis well and know his Nick Fury very well. It's not what he wants. The boiled egg is accustomed to the enemy hiding himself in the light and in the dark, not the other way around. If this continues, S.H.I.E.L.D. may not be able to play the role he wants.
So the boiled egg made a decision immediately, resigned on the spot, and he quit the position of director of S.H.I.E.L.D.
He decided to find another way, hide back in the shadows, and continue to protect the earth in his own way, lest the next time the invasion came, their Aegis would be the first to kneel.
After the disappearance of the boiled egg, the position of the director of S.H.I.E.L.D. was naturally vacant, and there were really many people eyeing this position. Clear-eyed people know that Aegis is rich and rivals the country, and the power of the director is comparable to that of the lord of a country, with a floating mothership that is unique in the world, as well as a bunch of high-risk weapons secretly collected by boiled eggs, and even a dozen nuclear bombs.
Whoever can sit in this position becomes one of the most powerful people on the planet.
The question of the new director has been discussed for a long time in the World Security Council and in the United Nations, and many candidates have been listed. There are many people who meet the qualifications and abilities, but they all lack one of the most important things - popularity.
Everyone agreed that A.H.I.E.L.D. needed a new face, a popular figure who could show to the public and convince the people, preferably a hero who played a vital role in this war against Skrull.
So what politician didn't have no spies to replace, no black pot to back to, who detected the alien conspiracy before the East Window incident and took action against it, and finally played a key role in the alien war?
Add up to such a series of constraints, and the answer seems to be quickly narrowed down to just one.
That man was obviously Tony Stark.
So the bigwigs made a decision on the spot and made a decision directly.
Tony Stark, Iron Man, Avengers veteran, director and founder of the Disaster Control Bureau, succeeds S.H.I.E.L.D. as head of S.H.I.E.L.D. starting today.
