Chapter Twenty-Three: Amazingly Big

Bakers Water Supply Plant.

Zach Marks is a maintenance worker at the water plant, which he has been working for for 10 years, and he knows that the plant is more than three times older.

Since many years ago, there have been some rumors circulating at this water plant. When you talk about it in detail, it's not a very new story, it's just a rumor like the old hospital and old dormitory building that people often circulate that those crumbling buildings are hosting evil ghosts or something.

Zach thinks that probably all buildings with remote addresses like this will give birth to such stories when they reach a certain age, that is, to scare newcomers and children. Old Zach never believed in the ghosts and gods, and he thought that those horror stories were nonsense, all things that people made up to scare themselves. He has been working in this water supply plant for ten years, and he knows every shade and corner of this place well, and he can cross the whole plant with his eyes closed, what can he be afraid of?

It's two o'clock in the morning, and he's leading a newcomer who has just been transferred to do a pipeline overhaul. Earlier, there was a strange muffled sound between the pipes, and a creaking sound like a dilapidated wooden door, as if something was about to be crushed by something heavy.

Zach had never seen anything like this before. Is there a problem with the water pressure?

The newcomer who followed him trembled like chaff the whole time, and he couldn't even hold a flashlight. He kept whispering, "It's a long-tongued monster, it must be a long-tongued monster......"

Zach asked, "What is the Long-Tongued Monster?" ”

"Haven't you heard?" The newcomer looked at him in surprise, "There have been a lot of rumors recently, saying that there are long-tongued monsters in this area, and they will come out to do evil at night." It picks at lone passers-by, and when its long tongue rolls, people are swept into the darkness where it inhabits and eats it, and there are no bones left......"

Zach rolled his eyes.

Do all the young people of these years believe this? It's really unproductive.

"Take it easy, little ghost, it's just some pipe glitches." Zach said as he searched around with a flashlight, "We just need to find out what the problem is now, and then we can ...... Well? ”

Zach was stunned.

He flashed the flashlight somewhere in the pipe and slowly approached it.

Through the golden beam, he seemed to see some kind of liquid...... He wasn't sure if it was liquid, but it was some kind of black, slimy thing dripping slowly from the water pipe onto the floor.

Zach had never seen anything like this before, but at this moment, he suddenly had an extremely ominous premonition for no reason, as if every cell in his body was instinctively warning him of the imminent danger.

He felt like a sheep facing a lion.

......

Richard sat up abruptly from the bed. He gulped air into his lungs and gasped like an asthma patient.

He was sitting in his bed, and the electronic clock on the bedside table stopped at 02:11.

He was awakened by a nightmare.

It was a rather abstract nightmare, and Richard wasn't even sure what he was dreaming about. He remembered only a few sporadic sounds, and a few fragments of images of unknown significance. He remembered that it seemed to be a rather dimly lit space, surrounded by pipes with complex pathways, perhaps some kind of factory. He remembered a bloody mouth that smelled of blood, and he remembered the whip-like things flying in the dark air, like hideous snakes.

He remembered the screams, the heart-rending screams, like the sounds of despair that could only be uttered when one was afraid to push the limits.

Then he realized something else.

Richard calmed his breath and stretched out his palm. A faint white glow lingered in his palm, gradually condensing into the form of a white rod.

Evolve Trusters.

Just now, his light power had been upgraded.

Now, the Evolutionary Trust was flickering in his hands like never before, the dark green light in its dim core flickering. It was a hazy feeling, but he seemed to be able to clearly feel every flash of light with his body, as if something was calling to him.

Almost instinctively, Richard got up, changed his clothes, grabbed the Evolutionary Truster and left the house.

......

2:35 a.m., Bakers Water Plant.

The cordon was raised, all irrelevant personnel were emptied, and the entire water supply plant was immediately cordoned off. Several transport planes bearing the S.H.I.E.L.D. eagle emblem were parked in the open space outside the water plant, and a Kun fighter remained suspended in the air.

Senior S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Phil Coulson, wearing his trademark suit, watched as S.H.I.E.L.D. agents jumped from the transport plane, armed to the teeth. One of the leaders happened to be Agent Ward Grant, who had gone with him to the planet last time for questioning.

Like the others, Ward wore a black combat suit for Aegis, with a submachine gun in his hand. He walked up to Coulson: "What's going on inside?" ”

"The 'long-tongued monster' has appeared." "Two workers were caught up," Coulson said. ”

Ward frowned: "Are you kidding?" ”

"Unfortunately, no." Coulson said solemnly, "We've been following the rumors of this 'long-tongued monster' for a while, and although it is ridiculous, it is a fact that people keep going missing. What is hidden in this place...... Something quite dangerous, we have to be careful to deal with. ”

Ward glanced at the entrance to the water plant behind the blockade: "And now that thing is inside?" ”

"This is something that our experts are trying to determine and should be ...... soon"

"It's inside."

Before Coulson could finish speaking, a black doctor in a white lab coat walked over with a tablet with a look of disbelief: "You won't believe this." Hidden in this, it has an incredible vitality, and I have never seen a reading like this...... And you guys should take a look at this, which is a thermal image. ”

He handed the screen to the two of them, and Coulson and Ward approached together, and there was only a large red patch in the screen, and nothing could be seen.

Coulson was confused: "Why is this piece all red?" ”

"That's the problem!" The black doctor held his breath and lowered his voice and pointed to the water plant, "This means that what is hidden inside, whatever it is, is large enough to exceed the limits of thermal imaging mapping." And...... It should be alive. ”

Ward and Coulson looked at each other.

"You know," said Ward, "I'm starting to feel a little bit of a no-go in now. ”
