Chapter 10: The Tavern's Tale and Sacrifice (Part II)
Cherki continued, a look of apprehension slowly appearing on his face.
"Five ship-swallowing whales! It's the size of a big sea hunting ship, and it's so fierce that even if you don't mess with it, it will come and attack you.
At that time, I didn't think much about it, I just thought that which sea hunting ship had returned with a big hunt, and I was still feeling sorry for them! It's not a good idea to go back to port.
But just as I was rubbing my damn legs and getting ready to continue on my way, something suddenly felt wrong.
This alley I walked down leads to the outside of the city, huh? The ship returning should return to the port, the direction is completely opposite, even if the sea breeze is strong, the smell of blood should not be so strong here?
And the direction where the smell of blood wafted from was exactly the exit of this alley, but out of this alley, isn't there a city wall outside?
Who would drag the catch to that kind of place to be slaughtered?
I felt a little wrong, so I thought about bypassing the alley next to me, but when I crossed three alleys in a row, the smell of blood still didn't get out of my nose.
Seeing that it's getting late, I'm afraid I'm going to spend the night in this alley full of sewage, rats and cockroaches if I don't hurry out of the city and get out of town - I don't want to run to a hotel while those bastards are all over the city, and God knows if they're going to pull me out of the bed and cut off my head in the middle of the night?
Like that hapless ghost in the tavern.
So I had no choice but to bite the bullet and hit the guts, and touched little by little towards the place where the smell of blood came from.
Misty Girl bless, I wish I had finished that glass of wine in the tavern at the time, so that at least I wouldn't be shaking with the strength of the wine.
But you know what? When I cautiously peeked out of the shadows of the alley, I was so scared that my soul almost flew away! ”
At this point, Cherki stopped again, grabbed his glass and tried to take a big sip, but could not pour the wine into his throat anyway.
His hands trembled terribly, and the wine in his cup continued to spill out like a fountain.
Xue Hua, who was sitting next to him, couldn't stand it anymore, stretched out his left hand and pressed the old man's shoulder, and a stream of spiritual energy with a soothing effect was transmitted into Cherki's body, and with the help of spiritual energy, he finally calmed down again.
"What do you see?" Xue Hua asked.
"I saw... Grunt...... Cherki swallowed dryly, fear appeared in his eyes again, he grabbed the wine glass in front of him, drank all the residual wine in the cup in one gulp, and then turned his head to look at Xue Hua's eyes and said.
"Corpses! I saw the corpses! Many, many corpses! Pile up like a hill of corpses! ”
Cherki's voice was slightly distorted with fear, but fortunately the noise in the tavern was loud enough, otherwise his voice would have attracted everyone's attention.
"Those corpses were bleeding! Some are still twitching slightly! The guys in the beautiful armor were moving more corpses out of another alley, piling them up on the edge of the city wall like garbage, and the blood from the pile of corpses was even staining the dirt on the ground blood-red!
I ......"
Cherki lost his voice suddenly, and he couldn't even open his mouth a few times but couldn't utter a syllable, so Xue Hua had no choice but to send a calming spiritual energy into his body again, so that the old guy could calm down his emotions.
"Whew......" Cherki grabbed the glass and wanted to take a sip, but found that the glass was empty.
Xue Hua hurriedly knocked on the table and called the bartender to refill the wine glasses of the two.
A silver sail coin could be exchanged for fifty cups of bitter algae wine here, and the two of them drank far less than half of that.
When the cup was full again, the old man grabbed it and took a big sip, as if he had regained the courage to continue talking.
"It's not like I've never seen dead people, but so many dead people are piled together... cough cough cough ......
Moreover, I saw a familiar face on the pile of corpses, the guy who had his head cut off on the spot by those professionals in the tavern not long ago!
That's when I understood it all!
These people are dead! They're all dead! All those caught as 'cultists' are dead!
They're all here......"
Cherky had an irrepressible look of panic on his face, and cold sweat on his forehead ran frantically down his cheeks.
The bar they were sitting at was some distance from the brazier in the center of the tavern, and it was supposed to be cold, but the old man's beard and hair were soaked with sweat, and hung there like white kelp.
"And that's not all!" After a while, the old man relented, and he grabbed the glass and stared straight ahead, as if he had seen the horror he had seen that day.
"I was stunned, my whole body was as stiff as a piece of wood, my joints were numb, and my mind was only blank, but I still remember that after the 'professional army' sent by the nobles and lords had stacked all the corpses, a group of guys in black robes came out of the alley where they had left.
These people looked very strange, and their bodies were shrouded in robes, as if they were afraid that others would see their bodies.
There were probably six or seven of them, and I don't remember exactly, but I remember that when they came out, they surrounded the corpses in the middle, and then they opened their hands and spoke to the corpses in a strange language......
Then I saw that the corpses began to melt slowly, like slowly burning candles, slowly melting into the ground!
The smell of blood intensified, and my ears began to buzz, as if someone had shoved a mad killer bee into my head.
The fog girl is on top, and in just a few tens of seconds, I am almost driven crazy by the sound and the smell!
I don't know what's going on, I don't care what's going on, I just want to run! Run anywhere! As long as it can keep me away from this damn place, I'll be willing to let me sleep in a rat nest for one night! ”
Cherki shouted loudly with some excitement, his voice was sharp and hoarse, apparently greatly frightened at that time.
"I don't know what the hell those black-robed and aristocratic lords are up to, and I don't care about that, I just know that when I came to my senses again, I was lying next to a sewer well.
The dirty, smelly, slimy, wet smell kept rushing into my nose from the sewage well, and I must have run as far as I used to.
But at the time, I just thought the damn smell was so reassuring to me that I almost wanted to jump right into the sewage well......"
Cherki's voice slowly turned from high-pitched to low, the most terrifying part of the story had passed, and the old man gradually controlled his emotions.
And so, I shrunk up by the sewage well for the night, and all night wide, my eyes widened, lest I should be caught in my sleep by the old men, and my head cut off, and melted into wax......
The next morning, I ran back to my nest outside the city, and for two or three months, I didn't dare to run into the city once.
Later, when I finally had the guts... Or rather, when I entered the city again after being seduced by the wine worms, I glanced along the base of the city wall in the direction I had seen the pile of corpses.
There was nothing there, no corpses, no learning, not even a bit of bone slag to be seen......"
