Chapter 47: Heart of the Mountains
Balin said with a smile: "Chili, Fili, it's great to see you two, come, come and take a hand, move this table to the dining room, otherwise you won't be able to sit down when everyone arrives." β
"Okay Uncle Balin!"
Chili and Fili sprang into action at once.
Bilbo hurriedly chased after him and said, "Everyone? All here? How many of you are there! β
Before he could finish speaking, there was another knock on the door.
Bilbo couldn't take it anymore and shouted, "No! Don't come! There is no one at home! I can't fit enough dwarves in my house! I swear that if this is anyone's prank, I, Bilbo Baggins, one of the richest people in The Hobbit, will make him pay for it! β
With that, Bilbo opened the door.
The five dwarves huddled together and fell to the floor at Bilbo's feet.
Gandalf stood behind them, bending over Bilbo and smiling, "Are you all ready?" β
Bilbo said angrily, "Gandalf! Sure enough, it's you! What are you doing with all these dwarves in my house? Do you want to have a fireworks display? β
Gandalf smiled faintly, "Fireworks display? Perhaps, but we must feed us all first, our dwarven friends, but I came here a month ago, and I just ruled their exact location with magical letters, and these guys are lost, and I have to go and bring them myself, oh yes, what about my two friends? Are they all okay? Have you ever had a hard time for them? β
Xu Feng came out of the living room and beckoned to Gandalf with a smile, "Gandalf, we are here, Bilbo is a hospitable hobbit. β
Gandalf laughs, "That's right, every hobbit is hospitable!" β
Bilbo wants to die.
The dwarves poured into his dining room, and the dining room tables were set up, and all kinds of food were placed on the tables, and the dwarves sat down one after another, and Maple, Hammer, and Gandalf sat in the primary and secondary positions, but the real owner of the house, Lord Bilbo Baggins, stood at the table.
Bilbo roughly counted twelve dwarves in his house, including Maple, Hammer, and Gandalf, that was fifteen guests.
This is already history-making.
Since he lived alone, he hadn't entertained so many guests in his life combined, and he felt like he was going to collapse.
Of course, there was also something that made him feel relieved that he saw that there was a seat vacant next to Gandalf.
Most of Bilbo's anger vanished, and he walked over to sit in his seat.
De Walling, who was next to him, said in a deep voice, "I'm sorry, Lord Baggins, but this is not a seat reserved for you. β
Bilbo's eyes widened, thinking he was joking.
But Dwalin's expression was very serious.
Gandalf also said, "He's right, Bilbo, this really isn't a seat for you, we still have a companion who hasn't come." β
Bill Bo suddenly wanted to flip the table!
In his own home, he couldn't even sit in a seat!
Gandalf looked around the table and read out the names of the dwarves one by one: "Dwalin, Balin, Fili, Chili, Nolly, Ori, Dori, Oyin, Groin, Pombo, Beaver, Beauferβtwelve dwarves, and the most crucial one is missing." β
Dwalin smiled: "He will come, he just went to the north to have a meeting with our people, he will definitely come, he is our star, our light, our only hope." β
Gandalf nodded, "Okay, then I'll introduce these two friends - Diedi and Hammer, I think you should have already met, this time the Lonely Mountain mission, Diedi and Hammer, will act with us as mercenaries." β
The dwarves present immediately whispered to each other.
Obviously, these dwarves are very conservative and don't want Terrans to get involved.
Gandalf didn't pay attention to the dwarf's whispers, and continued, "Also, you've all met this Bilbo Baggins, and he's also a member of our mission to the Lonely Mountain, and he's an important member. β
"What?" Bilbo was taken aback.
Balin raised his glass to Bilbo and said, "Yes, we need a snitch, and you'll be a good snitch." β
Bilbo said angrily, "Listen, I don't know what you're talking about, but I'm Bilbo Baggins!" I am the heir to the Baggins and Tuke families! What I have is money, and I have more money to be able to, can, bury you all! I don't need to be a thief! No, you don't! β
The dwarves present were all stunned, and then laughed.
Gandalf laughed, "Bilbo, you misunderstood, the Snitch is not a thief, but a profession with special skills, just as Diedi is a mercenary, and so is the Snitch. There is also a more awkward word called stalker, which means a person who walks quietly, such a person, can perform more special tasks. β
"Like stealing?" Bilbo asked.
Gandalf thought for a moment, "Well, that seems to be the case. β
Bilbo said angrily, "I told you, I'm rich!" I need to be a thief! β
Gandalf smiled, "What we asked you to invest in is not gold and silver treasure, but a treasure that can help the dwarves recover their kingdom - you know the Lonely Mountain, right?" β
"Lonely Mountain?" Bilbo frowned slightly, "I seem to have a little impression." β
Gandalf said, "The Lonely Mountain, far away from here, far enough away that you have to pass through the dangerous misty forest. Lonely Mountain is the territory of the Oak Shield Dwarf tribe, more than two hundred years ago, Thor Oak Shield built an immortal palace in Lonely Mountain, the wealth of their kingdom is so much that it can flood the entire city, but they did not stop the acquisition of wealth, they kept digging deep into the Lonely Mountain, almost the entire Lonely Mountain was hollowed out by them, he went all the way down, and actually dug a colorful gem - the heart of the mountain. Thorin was fascinated by the energy of the Heart of the Mountains, and he thought that someone would come to rob him of the Heart of the Mountains, so he turned the Mountain into a closed military fortress, cutting off contact with the other dwarven races. β
And so, year after year, King Thor became suspicious and sensitive, suspicious of everyone, even his own son. A few more years later, a fire suddenly struck the castle of Lonely Mountain. At the root of the fire was a dragon, a magical creature created by Morgoth himself, and the last dragon, Smaug. β
"One of the characteristics of all dragons is that they like to sleep on hard and shiny treasures. The treasure and geographical location of the lonely mountain deeply attracted the giant dragon Smaug, who flew to the top of the lonely mountain and burned the entire fortress with his dragon breath fire. β
"The dwarves are naturally no match for Smaug, they can only prepare to withdraw, but the old king Thor does not want to go, his treasure is here, and his mountain heart is here. In order to claim the Heart of the Mountains on his throne, he ran back to the palace despite the opposition, only to be killed by Smaug's breath of dragon's breath. β
"The Lonely Mountain has completely fallen, and the Heart of the Mountain has been buried under countless treasures, crushed by Smaug under his huge dragon body."
The dwarves present listened to Gandalf's story, and a look of pain appeared on everyone's face.
They were once the nobles of the richest country in the world, but now they have to leave their homeland and live a painful life of working for others and separating their flesh and blood.
