Chapter 536: Tactical Seminar

After the technical explanation of the "pennant", Long Yun's busy schedule was only halfway.

In the afternoon, having lunch in a restaurant near the design bureau and taking a nap in the car, he drove back to the bustling city of Moscow and came to the already familiar Gorky Street.

In this extraordinarily hot summer season, in the huge office building of the Air Force General Headquarters, which is filled with a stuffy feeling, in a small screening hall with doors and windows closed and air conditioning turned on, a joint tactical discussion of the Air Force and the Air Defense Force is being held with many participants and a major bearing on the current war situation.

In the screening room, which was full of attendees but did not smell a trace of noise, a calm voice echoed:

“…… Okay, after basically clarifying the technical characteristics of the 'active radar-guided missile', we move on to the level of tactical analysis. Let me start by putting you with the question: If you were to play the role of an American pilot and fly a fighter with an active missile on it, what would be the tactical arrangement you would adopt when performing a typical air superiority mission?

I'll give you 15 minutes to think, and then you can share your opinions and discuss with each other. ”

Standing next to the slide projector with the buzzing cooling fan, Long Yun, dressed in a straight general's uniform, was wielding a whip like a billiard cue in his hand; After assigning tasks to all the colleagues present, he stepped off the podium, picked up a glass of water and poured a few strange flavors of black tea.

As his words landed, the attendees seated in the rows of neat seats began to move, either thinking or writing hard, and the only sound left in the huge screening room was the sound of breathing and the tip of the pen passing across the face.

This was a significant tactical seminar. It is the second action schedule that Long Yun has crossed over.

The morning of the day. After waking up from a bachelor apartment in Moscow. He had been sorting out the technical data and documents in his mind in his room, and was writing at full speed when he received a notice from above that he would preside over a tactical seminar that afternoon as an instructor after going to the "Pennant" design bureau.

At a time when the Americans were pressing forward step by step and the offensive was imminent, such a discussion meeting was naturally of great significance, but he spent the whole morning staying at the "pennant" and could not get out of himself, so he could only use the time before the meeting to roughly sort out the explanations of the participants after arriving at the Air Force General Headquarters.

Of course, in terms of Longyun's understanding and analysis. If you want to talk about "how to deal with the threat of active bombs", these hastily sorted things should be almost enough.

After drinking the black tea in the cup and asking the young girl sitting in the first row in charge of the conference affairs to pour herself another glass, Long Yun slowly paced in the venue like a real military academy instructor, nodding slightly to his colleagues who looked up at him from time to time. Just now, after listening to the on-site discussion, I explained to the soldiers present the detailed technical characteristics of the AIM-120 series missiles, especially the AIM-120B, and now is the time for them to take the initiative, think independently, and solve problems.

In the conference room full of participants, pacing back and forth, Long Yun also spotted Suvorov from the 237th Fighter Aviation Regiment. When the little pilot saw his long plane and the object of his admiration, he not only grinned, but also raised his hand slightly; But because it's going on. There was no more to say between the two.

Like all the participants who came from the war-torn frontline, Long Yun knew that these colleagues of different ranks and dusty officers were not the most top-notch ace pilots in their units, but they were all veterans of pilots called from various aviation regiments, and they were highly educated and experienced, and they were also the technical backbone of various front-line combat units.

In the face of the severe threat of active bombs, Long Yun agreed with the above arrangement.

Just before, when he attended the combat seminar attended by Admiral Sergeyev, he had already thought very clearly that in the face of the threat of active bombing by the Americans, no matter how powerful he was, he would not be able to cover the sky with one hand; Only by first engaging in tactical discussion activities like guò, allowing the backbone of the troops in front of them to understand and familiarize themselves with the operational modes and tactical changes triggered by active missiles, and further improving the theoretical and technical level of front-line combatants in dealing with NATO's active missile carriers, can VVS (including PVO) extricate itself from the current unfavorable situation as much as possible, and then talk about using the new weapons it provides to launch a powerful counterattack.

Of course, the so-called "teaching and learning" would be even better if you could also get some new inspiration from such activities.

"Well, the time has come! - If there are colleagues who have not figured it out, they can continue to think on their own. If you already have an idea, let's discuss it in groups now, and then I will give each group enough time to speak, and then I will summarize at the end. ”

As Long Yun's words landed, a slightly noisy group discussion began in the venue, and then there was a mutual statement and debate; After the representatives of each group finished speaking and had a fierce and fruitful debate among themselves, holding a few hurried sticky notes in his hand, Long Yun first focused on answering the common misunderstandings of several people present before making a concluding speech.

After such a discussion, he guided the soldiers present to empathize and basically understand the typical tactics of active radar-guided missiles.

"We already have some ideas about the tactical use of active munitions, and the resulting change in the air combat situation. Next, I intend to explain this point in a simple and clear way, that is, how to defend against American active bombs in a typical air combat situation; In other words, how to determine the correct timing of maneuver evasion and what kind of maneuver evasion tactics to adopt?

First of all, after the discussion just now, combined with our own combat experience on the front line, we are basically familiar with the technical characteristics of the AIM-120B; Then I think you should also think that the mobile tactics against the AIM-7 series of semi-active bombs in the past may not be effective in the face of the AIM-120B.

When confronting the AIM-7F/M missile, according to the tactical guidance materials of the Air Force, in addition to maintaining a tactical formation with an interval of about 200 meters and trying to interfere with the echo resolution of the enemy's radar, our fighters will often carry out a violent lateral maneuver when the RWR system warns and prompts them to be locked by the enemy aircraft: this kind of maneuver can not only interfere with the AIM-7F/M's radar homing head lock and make it impossible to launch, but also greatly interfere with the missile's trajectory setting even if the enemy plane has launched the missile at this time. Due to the continuous correction of the trajectory, it will have many adverse consequences such as guidance difficulties and range attenuation.

But here, I would like to emphasize to you that the AIM-120B missile uses a downlink chain that communicates with the carrier aircraft in one direction, which is similar to the R-27 series of missiles that are currently in heavy use by our side. This technical improvement mainly brings about two changes, which in turn will make the maneuvering interference before and after the launch of the missile meaningless.

First of all, the AIM-120B, which uses a number chain for medium-range command correction, has been launched under the condition that 'the airborne radar intercepts the target steadily', and the missile homing head is often not turned on before launch, and the maneuvering tactics against the locking of the homing head have become untargeted; secondly, the trajectory correction of the AIM-120B missile after launch has been transferred from itself to the carrier fuselage, and the ballistic calculation capability of the carrier aircraft is far stronger than that of the missile, which has resulted in the fact that it can effectively counter the AIM-7F/ in the past. The tactical value of the M-missiles is strictly declining.

In summary, I boil down the above argument to the following: for the AIM-120B missile's maneuver evasion, don't pin your hopes on the period before or during the initial launch of the missile.

This is reflected in the actual combat response, if there is a high suspicion that the enemy aircraft in front of the enemy is carrying active bombs, especially if the aircraft type can be identified as an F-15 or E/F-18 through the radar echo, I personally do not recommend that the RWR prompt immediately carry out a drastic lateral maneuver. ”

After saying these words, Long Yun paused for a moment and left a little time for those present to think, because the point he had just explained was very important, and he hoped that all the colleagues present could understand it; Otherwise, if you make a mistake in dealing with it in over-the-horizon air combat, not only will you not be able to avoid the attack of the active bomb, but you will also lose the energy of the fighter and have an adverse impact on the subsequent visual air battle.

After waiting for a few seconds, and finding that there were no objections from those present, he continued:

"So, given the limited initial response to the launch, when should we carry out a maneuver confrontation?

At this point, the situation of air warfare is always changing rapidly, and of course you need to analyze specific problems; But in my personal thinking, it's okay to give some general principles. First of all, I would like to point out that the appropriate time to circumvent an 'active radar-guided missile' can be judged by the guòRWR alarm: at the moment when the missile is gradually approaching and the homing head is turned on, that is, when the RWR system intercepts the signal from the homing head and prompts a locking alarm, that is, when the tactical maneuver can be considered.

Because at this time, the missile has already entered the stage of autonomous homing without being controlled by the aircraft, and our maneuver strategy can ignore the position of the enemy aircraft and other complex situations, as long as it is aimed at the missile.

As for the specific evasion strategy, it is not the same as the situation against semi-active bombs, the AIM-120B's homing head has two search modes: PD (PulseDoppler) and SP (SinglePulse, single pulse mode), and our coping strategy must also take this into account.

In the first case, if the incoming missile approaches from above, then you should first determine the direction of the incoming missile, and then perform a continuous side-turn maneuver with a small dive to increase speed; At this time, the homing head of the active bomb can only work in PD mode, and with the interference of ground clutter, there is a considerable probability of avoiding the tracking of the homing head when the side rotation is implemented. Of course, in the unlikely event that the maneuver is ineffective and the missile is still being tracked, you can try to change from a side-turn to a large overload spiral climb, and release one or two sets of radar jamming chaff at the same time, and the missile will often miss the target because the homing head is too late to react. Well, it's like this—" (To be continued......)
