Chapter 298: J-10 "Raptor"
What kind of design ideas there are, what kind of weapons and equipment there are.
Under the guidance of the design concept of "mobility first", the Su-27, originally planned to be developed as a long-range interceptor, was designed to be an all-round fighter that could take on interception missions and also had sufficient combat capabilities, and was the strongest sword of the Soviet Air Force in the world in the mid-eighties, at the height of the Cold War. The Su-27 with excellent design and the R-27 series of missiles developed by the former Soviet Union can be said to be extremely powerful in combat air combat, even better than the old job she should have undertaken - long-range interception operations.
The all-round positioning that attaches importance to martial arts is very suitable for the needs of many aviation competitive teams.
If the style of a team is biased towards combat, but also attaches importance to BVR confrontation at medium distances, especially in terms of bomb load, that is, sustained combat effectiveness, then the J-11 series, which was born from the Su-27, is a more suitable choice.
This is the case with the J-11, but what about the J-10?
Unlike the J-27, which originated from the Su-11, the J-10 was born because of the heavy pressure on China's homeland air defense.
Speaking of the J-10, it is impossible not to mention the history of the confrontation between China and the Soviet Union: what is quite touching is that in the seventies and eighties of the last century, China encountered the heaviest air pressure, and its source was precisely today's hardcore ally and the Soviet Union, which was a bad neighbor at that time. The Soviet Union, which possessed a large number of strategic bombers and fighter-bombers, had deployed heavy troops in the Far East since the Sino-Soviet war became hostile, and this was always a heavy and terrible threat to China, its southern neighbor, which had weak territorial air defense at that time.
Thinking back to China at that time, because of the relatively backward research of national defense science and technology, most of the thousands of fighters equipped were J-6 series with outdated performance, and there were only dozens of newer J-7 fighters, which were far from meeting the needs of air defense; Although the national security shape has changed greatly with the passage of time and the confrontational form has gradually eased and disappeared, the Chinese military's need for high-performance interceptors is still urgent. At that time, a number of projects developed by military scientific research institutions one after another: J-8I, J-8II, J-9 and J-10 were basically formulated for interception operations, the first two were equipped with short-range combat missiles to provide basic point defense capabilities; The latter, as a medium-term project, is expected to have practical over-the-horizon combat capabilities.
As a development project with the same canard wing configuration, the J-9, whose design parameters have been changed several times, was ill-fated and finally had no choice but to get off the horse; The J-10 survived the most difficult period of military spending, and in the late nineties of the last century, it was finalized and entered the stage of mass production after solving the problem of engine sources from Russia.
In a sense, the status of the J-10, as China's first completely self-designed third-generation fighter, is very unusual.
If you look at it from the appearance alone, the appearance of the J-10 is quite similar to the twin-engine heavy fighter Su-27; The J-10 series also has a lot of fans in today's Soviet Russia, and they are used to calling the J-10 the pocket Su-27, probably because they have similar appearances and engines, although the actual similarity between the two fighters is not high.
It seems that as China's former main fighter, it is not impossible to maintain its design and operation standards in harmony with the Su-27 that has been introduced and produced - of course, this is not the case, and the design and system interface of the J-10 series fighters are significantly different from the Su-27, but are closer to the contemporaneous models in the West.
As a model that emphasizes high-speed interception capability, the aerodynamic layout of the J-10 is based on the traditional delta wing configuration, but some improvements have been made on this basis, trying to balance high-speed capability and maneuverability. First of all, the reverse bending torsion is superimposed on the airfoil of the traditional delta wing, which is similar to the double delta wing design, which can improve the maneuverability of the fighter without excessively affecting its high-speed characteristics. Secondly, the installation of full-motion canard wings, combined with the digital flight control system, can greatly improve the maneuverability characteristics of the fighter.
After such an improved design, although it uses a delta wing with a small aspect ratio, as a third-generation fighter, the maneuverability of the J-10 is completely qualified, and it is not much inferior to the famous European twin winds. But in any case, in essence, the J-10 is still a high-speed interceptor, and its own bomb load and range indicators must also be subordinated to the requirements of supersonic volleys.
Specifically, if you observe from the direction of the fuselage axis, you will have a more intuitive understanding of the size of the J-10: the nickname of "Stick Ten" does not come out of thin air, and the J-10 does look like a long stick from this angle - the diameter of the fuselage is very close to the diameter of the engine, and its body is not very strong, so it can be said that every effort has been made to reduce drag. After all, unlike the powerful twin-engine fighter, the thrust of the J-10 with a single engine is not sufficient, and in order to increase the flight speed, it must be slimmed down, which is somewhat similar to the design of the typical second-generation aircraft MiG-21 in the former Soviet Union.
On the basis of ensuring the flight speed, the fighting ability of the J-10 can only be said to be balanced, that is, it is not bad, and it is not very outstanding in the third generation of fighters; At the same time, limited by engine thrust and short wingspan, its weapon payload capacity is also quite average, which cannot be compared with the F-16 "bomb pickup".
In the development program of the 611 Institute, it was initially planned to equip the J-10 with pulse-Doppler radar and PL-11 semi-active radar-guided missiles, so its combat mode is very similar to that of the Su-27.
However, with the improvement of China's national strength, electronic technology has gradually begun to develop rapidly, providing an excellent opportunity for the performance improvement of the J-10. At the beginning of the new century, the final J-10 fighter weapon system has been changed to the JL-10A radar and the supporting active radar-guided missile PL-12. At the same time, due to the improvement of the radar's downward viewing capability, it also has a certain potential for the development of air-to-surface attacks.
Thanks to the intelligent improvement of the new fly-by-wire control system, the J-10's maneuvering attitude margin can be further relaxed, which also makes its maneuverability improve to a certain extent, and it can even be said that it is a little better than the Su-27. All in all, if you pay more attention to BVR combat capabilities, and at the same time take into account combat, and do not pay too much attention to bomb load and sustained combat effectiveness, the J-10 is a pretty good choice.
In short, this is the case with both types of fighters; After thinking about it for a long time, and checking the supplier's quotation and sales manual on the computer, Long Yun stared at the screen for a short while.
After a long period of examination, he has basically calculated in his heart.
In Long Yun's concept, the J-27 series fighters derived from the Su-11 have quite good combat capabilities; In particular, the J-11B, which is improved on the basis of the J-11A / Su-27SK, has been plagued by the reliability of the WS-10 engine for a long time, but it is equipped with the JL-10A series Doppler radar, and also has the ability to carry PL-12 medium-range missiles and PL-8C combat missiles, plus a large fuel load and a total of 12 missiles of the payload capacity, the sustained combat effectiveness is of course very strong.
However, sustained combat effectiveness is one thing, and it is quite another to really consider the combat mode of aviation competition, especially combat air combat.
When entering a visual air battle, the fighter will not carry too many missiles, otherwise the maneuverability will be too constrained; In this regard, the maximum missile payload of the J-10 series fighters is not bad, or the actual payload capacity of the two is basically the same, which is also okay.
On the other hand, as for the J-10, Long Yun has a lot of actual combat experience in piloting the Su-27S when crossing, and this experience will continue to grow; The J-10 has no such benefits, he has not touched the joystick of this fighter until now, and all his perceptual understanding is limited to the simulator he has fought before.
Technical analysis, there is really enough; The plan that Long Yun made now was a bit unexpected by himself.
"--I said Liu Wei," Long Yun suddenly spoke, "The price of the J-11B, 180 million, right?" ”
"Yes, Brother Long, this is still an offer for installing AL-31F, and it will be more expensive if it is replaced by WS-10C. …… So, do we have limited funds and can't afford it? ”
While answering the captain's question, Liu Wei also muttered a little in his heart, a twin-engine heavy aircraft like J-11B, 1.8 billion is really not expensive; But it's very painful for them "Chenlong", and I don't know if the generous Shangguan girl can give approval?
"So what about the J-10A, it wasn't 1400 million before, why is the price reduced now?"
Looking at the page on the computer, Liu Wei also found that the price of the J-10A had been slightly reduced, and he carefully observed for a moment before remembering that this was probably the result of reaching a certain output and recalculating the cost of a single aircraft. Now the price of the J-10A is 133000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000
-- That's 1300 million, isn't it?
Looking at Long Yun's expression, Liu Wei knew that he had already made a decision, so he didn't say anything and was ready to listen to his final decision.
"Hey, Liu Wei."
It has nothing to do with the technical characteristics of the fighter, Long Yun slowed down his speech, wondering if his decision was a bit abrupt: "Not to mention the difference in the price of the model, the fuel consumption of the J-11B is about twice that of the J-10A." In the future, we will still have to play in the competition, and the future will be long, so let's take care of the environment and protect the earth, how about it? ”
