Chapter 35: Joy in Suffering
The place where the three of them sat was within four pillars, with straw mats on the floor, and in front of them there were only two small desks and two teacups on them, and nothing else on them. Lu Zheng knew that this should be the two-story wooden building in the center of the square that he saw on the mountain, and the ascetic said that it was called the Tianyuan Pavilion. It was said to be the second floor, but looking around, there were no stairs in the house to go upstairs.
The room was empty, there was nothing to look at, Lu Zheng was hiding behind the dervishe, and had the audacity to secretly look at Mr. Le. Mr. Le is dressed in a white wide robe with big sleeves, a ruddy face, friendly eyebrows and eyes, no beard, and looks very handsome and chic, like a fairy sitting in the clouds!
His expression seemed to be in a daze, not knowing what he was thinking. The hair is not messy, but it is casually draped over his shoulders, and occasionally a few strands fall in front of his eyes, but it shows his laziness. He leaned against the desk, as if he were tired, so that one could not tell his age, at first glance it looked like thirty, then it looked like seventy, and when he looked closely, it seemed more like fifty, but sometimes there was a hint of childlike cunning in his occasional glance.
Lu Zhengxin said, this is the immortal, it turns out that the immortal looks like this!
"Hey, what are you looking at?" Mr. Le suddenly spoke, but he was facing Lu Zhengdao, who was secretly looking at him.
Lu Zheng didn't expect that Mr. Le's eyes had already discovered his small movements before he swept over, and quickly retracted back to the dervishe's back, and his face was a little red for a while. He secretly tugged at the corner of the dervish's coat, but the ascetic did not look at him, apparently not ready to reply for him.
Lu Zheng had no choice but to poke his head out from behind the ascetic and replied honestly, "I'm looking at you." ”
"Oh, what do you think I'm doing?" asked Mr. Le, who seemed a little surprised by such a direct answer, leaning over to him with his whole body leaning over to the desk with his hand.
Lu Zheng felt that this Mr. Le was not very scary, but very kind, so he replied: "I haven't seen you, so I'm a little curious, are you a fairy?"
When Le Zhongping heard this, Hahadaxiao got up, and when he smiled, it seemed that the breeze blowing in from the doors and windows around him also flowed with his laughter. He laughed like this, which made Lu Zheng blush, and hid behind the dervish again.
Mr. Le glanced at Lu Zheng a few times, suddenly stopped laughing, and said to the ascetic: "Master?" There was a question in his eyes.
The ascetic knew what he was asking, and said to Lu Zheng: "Lu Zheng, you go outside first, the poor monk has something to say to Mr. Le." ”
Before Lu Zheng could answer, Mr. Le said, "Well, little friend, wait a minute...... Xin'er, you take this little brother out to play, remember not to be naughty!"
Lu Zheng was still wondering who his heart was, so he heard a cheer, and a voice said with an extremely happy atmosphere: "Okay!
A flower in front of me, out of nowhere came a little girl, who looked only eleven or twelve years old, half a head shorter than herself, pink dress, combed several small braids, and tied with pink ribbons, looking all pink and very playful. She shouted at Mr. Le: "Then I'll go out to play!" Without waiting for Mr. Le's response, she turned around and pulled Lu Zheng up and ran out of the door, saying, "Little brother, let's go catch butterflies!"
As soon as the two children ran out of the door, the scene in the house immediately changed, and they saw the original desk and straw mat disappear on the spot along with the two of them. The two of them reappeared, already in the place where the original ascetic and Lu Zheng overlooked the sun and moon grass in the Two Realms Mountain, and they didn't know how Mr. Le did it, it should be an extremely clever magical means.
The dervish monk was obviously quite puzzled by this method, and sighed: "The poor monk and Mr. have known each other for ten years, and have seen Mr.'s supernatural powers several times, but there are no traces of artificiality, and I still don't know what kind of supernatural powers Mr. has cultivated, and what level he has reached. ”
Mr. Le smiled and said, "If it is a realm, there is a detachment. The practice in the Sun Moon Lu is not as good as the two schools of Buddhism and Taoism, and it is difficult to say that the order is that the way I practice has always been the original and the end, only the depth of the realm, and there is no level difference. For example, the Mahayana Bodhisattva path practiced by your great Buddhist practitioner also has many consistent practice methods, but the disciples of later generations do not know about it, and they are reduced to minor techniques. ”
The dervish recited a Buddha horn and said: "Amitabha, the poor monk practiced Hinayana asceticism and persisted in asceticism. Fang realized the true meaning of the Buddha's saying that all sentient beings are suffering, and had an epiphany of the Mahayana ascetic state of mind, abandoning the suffering of my body, but seeing that all sentient beings are suffering. Over the years, the poor monks have traveled in and out of the world, and they have learned a lot, which is of great benefit to their cultivation, and I would like to thank Mr. Xie here!"
Mr. Le waved his hand and said, "The great monk is polite, let's drink tea." As he spoke, the two of them picked up their teacups at the same time.
The ascetic tasted tea and sighed: "Oh, I think that at the beginning, Mr. used tea as a Zen machine to guide the poor monks to the true meaning of suffering. The poor monk finally realized that bitterness and sweetness are the taste of tea. ”
Mr. Le said with a smile: "The great monk can take a good xiexie rules, this tea grows in a very bitter cold place, the production is extremely cumbersome, I have never had such haode patience, so I have always been a hard worker, I and the great monk you are sitting and enjoying it." Haha, where is life not calm!"
The ascetic monk knew that Mr. Le's sentence 'where life is not calm' never left his mouth, and said with a smile: "Such a poor monk really wants to thank Mr. Zhonggui for making good tea, haha!"
Ten years ago, Le Zhongping met the ascetic monk Baku for the first time, and invited him to tea in the same way. The dervishew took a sip of his teacup. Le Zhongping opened his mouth and asked him: "Great monk, your Dharma name Eight Sufferings must come from the suffering truth of the Four Noble Truths of your Buddhism. Dare to ask the great monk, this tea taste is very bitter in the mouth, but the bitterness dissipates but has a sweet aftertaste, may I ask the great monk, is this tea sweet or bitter?"
This seemed to be the most ordinary question, but it made the monk of the Eight Bitters at that time stunned, and he didn't know how to answer for a while.
Bitterness is naturally the fun of drinking tea, and it is also a familiar thing when drinking tea, but Mr. Le asked whether there are two tastes of sweet and bitter in tea, or is it because after the bitterness subsides, because of the difference in taste, there is a sweet feeling in people's mouths?
Of course, Mr. Le also specifically mentioned the origin of the Dharma name of the Eight Bitter Monks before, and this question is not so simple. Naturally, Mr. Le is not asking how the tea tastes, but alluding to another question. Buddhism cloud, everything in the world is suffering, Mr. Le uses tea as a metaphor for people, in fact, he asks ascetics, life in the world, is it happiness or suffering?
Is life happy or painful? Everyone naturally has their own views because of their own experiences, but ascetics practice the four noble truths of suffering. The core of the truth of suffering is to understand the impermanence of the world, because of impermanence, there are eight sufferings, such as birth, old age, sickness, death, love and separation, resentment, inability to ask for, and five yin and blazing prosperity. In order to liberate these sufferings, there is an ascetic method, which is called the head of the Buddha in Buddhism.
This method of practice is very strict, with numerous strict precepts. For example, people are asked to stay away from all things in peace and happiness, they are required to beg and wear clothes, they are only allowed to sleep under trees, and they are not allowed to sleep in the same tree for more than three days, and so on, the purpose is to hone the mind, relieve the tiredness of the body, free people from materialistic pleasures, and restore the purity of body and mind. This is the kind of austerity practiced by ascetics.
Therefore, if it is according to the teachings of Buddhism and the practice of ascetics at that time, then he should answer that the taste of tea is bitter, to indicate that the world is bitter. The so-called sweetness is just an illusion under the difference in taste, and the happiness in the world is all vain!
But the ascetic practice of an ascetic monk ultimately seeks to be liberated from suffering and to reach the state of nirvana of a Buddha. This is equivalent to experiencing the bitter taste of tea, ushering in the natural sweetness. In this way, the taste of tea should be sweet, and life should also be happy! Maybe many people do not get happiness, but they will not deny that they are more willing to pursue a happy life, and it is precisely the ascetic himself who walks on this path, which can be said to seek happiness through suffering.
That's why the dervish weishenme was stunned. With a cup of tea, Mr. Le pointed out the question: If you think that everything in the world is suffering, then where do you go to find happiness? If you say that the world is happy, then why do you bother to practice so-called austerities?
At this time, Mr. Le said a truth.
People in the world drink tea, by no means just for the bitter taste, if it is for the benefits brought by the bitter taste, then it is better to drink medicine? The wonder of the tea taste lies in the feeling of bitterness.
The sweet aftertaste is by no means a difference in taste, because the decoction is more bitter than tea, but it does not have a sweet aftertaste, which is the uniqueness of the tea taste.
Just like life, there is no such thing as bitterness and happiness, but the experience is different, the feeling is different, and everything that everyone experiences will bring an aftertaste.
Some people are afraid of that bitterness, so they pursue sweetness that is the opposite of that bitterness, but they find the wrong direction. Some people go to avoid suffering, but they go on the opposite side of suffering, thinking that it is happiness. This is like the world thinks that hard work is suffering, and comfortable enjoyment is happiness, but after a long time of comfort, they feel that comfort is also suffering. I realized that I didn't really have a goal to pursue, I was just tired of the status quo!
And the true taste of life, is to carefully taste the bitterness, the real face of everything they have experienced, such as the bitterness of tea when drinking tea, only the more you can understand the true taste of the bitterness in the tea, the sweet aftertaste can be more wonderful, the so-called tea is bitter and the heart is not bitter, everything is the taste of the heart, in order to make the original chaotic heart from the sweet and bitter to clear and clear!
Therefore, there is no such thing as bitterness or sweetness in life, it only depends on how the heart feels the taste, and the real purity is only the heart that is used to feel everything, precisely because of experiencing everything, and understanding everything!
Mr. Le's words were actually igniting the eight bitter monks at that time, don't go to asceticism for the sake of suffering, that is the fate of the wood to seek fish, not the real way of cultivation.
