Chapter 237 2003
In the midst of loud cheers and whistles. Chen Feng slowly stepped onto the stage, and as the music sounded, the scene was quiet for a moment, and Chen Feng raised the microphone to his mouth and began to sing the song "Dark Fragrance".
"When the petals leave the flower
Dark fragrance residue
The incense disappears after the wind and rain
No one came to sniff it
If love sues me to go down
I will fight to the end of love
If the heart dies in splendor
Love will be reborn in the ashes
Unforgettable lingering whispers
Honor me with your smile
Let the heart die in splendor
Let love be reborn in the ashes
The fire burned the grass scars
Look at the spring breeze again
When the petals leave the flower
Dark fragrance residue
……”
Chen Feng's singing of this song did once again make all the people on the scene, including hundreds of millions of viewers in front of the TV, were deeply shocked, undoubtedly this is a very beautiful song, coupled with Chen Feng's magnetic singing with a faint hoarse voice, the rhythm is very natural, full of tension, free to send and receive, just right to grasp the rich changes in the feelings in this song, and the original composer of this song is Sanbao, his composition skills are undoubted, this song is no exception, and "Dark Fragrance" The lyrics also play a finishing role in this song, and there is a lingering feeling of compassion in the lyrics, which is a good work.
Such a perfect combination of lyrics and songs, coupled with Chen Feng's affectionate interpretation. The effect of this is naturally very powerful, so that after listening to it, countless people are deeply immersed in the profound artistic conception expressed in the song, and some are difficult to extricate themselves.
After the music ended, the audience at the scene collectively lost their voices for a few seconds, and when Chen Feng retreated, they all woke up one by one like a dream, applauding and cheering with their greatest strength, and many people stood up excitedly, shouting the name "long", so the originally orderly scene seemed a little chaotic, however, in order to hurry, and without waiting for the audience to calm down, the program team immediately let the next large-scale song "Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter Another Year" start.
But obviously, whether it is the audience at the scene or the hundreds of millions of viewers in front of the TV, everyone is obviously not interested in the next show, and they are still deeply immersed in the musical conception of "Dark Fragrance" that Chen Feng sang just now, and they can't wait for Chen Feng to sing on stage again. But it is obvious that their wish cannot be realized, so they can only wait for the replay of this party, or watch the video of Chen Feng's song on the Internet.
After the end of "Another Year of Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter", it is the ending song of each year "Unforgettable Tonight", but when this song sounds, people are unconsciously immersed in the memories of the past year and the longing for the new year.
After Chen Feng returned to the backstage after singing "Dark Fragrance" on stage, he wanted to leave immediately, but only after being reminded by the CCTV staff. After the party, all the actors of this party had to collectively go on stage to thank them. If Chen Feng doesn't go up, of course, he will be a big name. So, I had to wait for the next two shows to end.
During this period, Chen Feng naturally suffered the attention of those actors who were also backstage, including Uncle Benshan, Feng Gong and other domestic big names took the initiative to come forward to get to know Chen Feng, and Chen Feng was naturally not offended by these heavyweights in the circle, and he did not let the bodyguards stop them, they all shook hands with them one by one and officially got to know each other.
Feng Gong seemed very easy-going when he was off the stage, and after the two exchanged pleasantries for a while, he took the initiative to leave his contact information, and Uncle Benshan was obviously interested in Chen Feng, and after getting to know each other, he sent a very constructive invitation to Chen Feng to cooperate: "Long, next year's Spring Festival Gala, how about you and I perform a sketch together?"
Chen Feng couldn't help but be stunned when he heard this, and asked in surprise: "Acting in a sketch with you?"
"yes, if we join forces. It will definitely achieve great results. Zhao Benshan said seriously.
Chen Feng suddenly couldn't cry or laugh, and refused with a smile: "I'm not good at acting in sketches." And next year, I am not going to participate in the Spring Festival Gala. ”
"Ah, aren't you going to participate next year? That's a shame. Zhao Benshan said with some regret.
Subsequently, Aaron Kwok and Lin Yilian, many well-known artists from both sides of the strait and three places came forward to meet Chen Feng.
Fortunately, after about ten minutes, this Spring Festival Gala officially came to an end, and the actors in the backstage also took the stage again to thank them.
After the live broadcast officially ended, Chen Feng finally asked for the entanglement of these artists on the same stage, and did not contact his agent, but went directly out of CCTV and returned to his godfather's house.
When they returned to the courtyard, it was very rare that their godfather Wang Zhaoxiang was also there, and when their family saw Chen Feng coming in, they all applauded Chen Feng with a smile on their faces. Wang Meixue said with admiration on her face: "Xiao Feng, your song "Dark Fragrance" is really good, I almost cried when I heard it before. It's really, so good, don't tell me earlier, let me listen to it early. ”
"Yes, Xiao Feng, this song of yours is really good, but the lyrics are a little sad. Chen Yufeng also echoed and said.
Wang Zhaoxiang said: "Xiaofeng, in the future, you write more songs that promote righteousness and our Chinese culture, these feelings, less love is better." ”
Chen Feng couldn't help but laugh when he heard it: "Grandpa, I can't write those ideological songs." I'm good at writing about these loves. ”
When Wang Zhaoxiang heard this, he couldn't help but be happy: "You stinky boy, did you deliberately do it right with your grandfather?"
Chen Feng said with a hippie smile: "How dare I? You are now the top ten person in our country." In front of your official authority, I am very trembling. After this, Chen Feng looked stern again, and said: "Grandpa, I haven't officially congratulated you yet, congratulations to you, further promotion." It's best to turn positive next year. ”
"Hehe, Chen Feng's words, our whole family loves to hear it very much. Wang Ruiguo said with a smile.
Wang Zhaoxiang pretended to reprimand: "How can you laugh and talk about these major national affairs?"
"Okay, why are you so strict for the New Year?" Chen Yufeng said to Wang Zhaoxiang with a slight reproach, "It's true that your matter is a national matter, but at the same time, it is also our family matter, how about everyone talking together?"
Wang Zhaoxiang smiled when he heard this: "Okay, okay, today is the first day of the first lunar month, you can talk about whatever you like." Xiao Feng, tell me about my little great-grandson, I haven't seen him for a long time, the little guy is not bad now, right? When will you bring him to Beijing to show your grandfather? ”
"He's fine, he's not sick or sick, and he's going to turn one year old in three months. If you are older, I will bring him to Beijing to see you. ”
The blink. The little ones are almost a year old, and time flies quite quickly. After Chen Yufeng sighed, he hurriedly said to Chen Feng, "Okay, come and sit down, these vegetables have just been warmed, you must not have eaten anything good on the TV station." ”
"Thank you, grandma, I'm really hungry. Chen Feng was not polite, and sat down directly to eat.
When Chen Feng was eating, Wang Zhaoxiang's family also continued to eat with a smile, which made Chen Feng feel the same family atmosphere as when he was in Xiuzhou's hometown.
Wait for Chen Feng to eat enough. It was almost two o'clock in the morning, and under Chen Feng's suggestion, everyone went back to their rooms to rest.
Early the next morning, when Chen Feng got up for morning exercises, he rarely met his godfather Wang Zhaoxiang who played Tai Chi in the courtyard. After the grandfather and grandson finished their work at the same time, Wang Zhaoxiang came over with a smile and said: "Xiao Feng, your habit of getting up early is very good, you must know that it is easy to insist on one or two days, what is rare is how you have been persevering for several years, right?"
"Yes, now every morning at five or six o'clock, I wake up on time, and I can't sleep even if I want to. It's better to get up early and do exercise. ”
"Hehe, okay!" Wang Zhaoxiang patted Chen Feng's shoulder appreciatively, and then said, "Let's go, let's go in and have breakfast together." ”
Chen Feng originally wanted to do sports, but when he said this, he nodded and agreed.
This time, the breakfast was picked up by Chen Yufeng himself, an authentic northern breakfast, corn porridge, egg and leek pancakes, which was very refreshing.
After breakfast, Wang Zhaoxiang took Chen Feng to the study to talk.
After the two sat down in the study, Wang Zhaoxiang took the lead in speaking and asked: "Xiao Feng, the Huateng under your name has a lot of recent news, do you have any further plans for this?"
Of course, Chen Feng knew what the news was about by Grandpa Gan? First of all, the biggest news was Hua Teng and the world's largest chaebol. Fengsai's strong alliance, in the international communications industry to carry out a large acquisition action, Germany's communications industry bears the brunt, in the two major financial investment groups under the joint offensive of the rout, now the two consortiums jointly established Fenghua Communication Group has seized 60% of the German communications industry market share, and then, Fenghua Communication Group began to target Western European countries, and even recently with China Mobile in the negotiation of cooperation. Naturally, it has attracted the attention of the world media as well as the domestic media, in addition to this. Huateng Dairy has also made a lot of noise recently.
Last year, after the official establishment of Huateng Dairy, after nearly four or five months of preparation, finally officially started the production of Huateng milk powder in mid-December at the end of last year, and then, it is the overwhelming advertising and marketing nationwide, and the biggest highlight is that Huateng milk powder will not only monitor the quality of milk powder itself, but also long-term third-party testing institutions will be hired to test each batch of milk powder produced by themselves, and the sampling will be approved for listing after all are qualified, and Huateng milk powder will be listed in Hong Kong in addition to being listed in Chinese mainland, Taiwan, Singapore and other places listed, and the products in these regions are using the same production line, unified simplified Chinese packaging, in addition to the process, nutrition and quality and safety excellence, Huateng Dairy has an advantage in price, generally 30% lower than the price of milk powder now sold on the market, but in terms of nutritional composition, Huateng is tested by European and American countries, and the nutritional content is generally higher than the rest of the domestic milk powder in China. And after the first batch of infant milk powder left the factory, Huateng Dairy announced that it will carry out the "Love Breastfeeding Program" nationwide, first of all, Gansu and Qinghai provinces in the mainland will be selected as a pilot, and will provide free milk powder for the extremely poor infant families in these two poorer provinces in China, and it is expected that the first batch will be selected in the two provinces to select 1,000 extremely poor infant and young child families to provide their children with free milk powder for the lactation stage. As soon as this love plan was launched, it naturally caused great repercussions across the country, and it can be said that it created a precedent for charity in the domestic dairy industry.
In addition to these two things, Hong Kong ATV, a subsidiary of Huateng Entertainment, has caused a sensation around the world because it is about to launch Chen Feng's second major play "Full House of Romance" in the New Year, and in addition, the second phase of the Hong Kong International Financial Center project bought by Huateng International Holdings Investment Group is about to be completed, which has also attracted the attention of the world media, especially the Chinese media.
Therefore, it is normal for Wang Zhaoxiang to ask this question.
Chen Feng replied casually: "I usually hand over the affairs of Huateng to Karina, the president of Huateng, to be specifically responsible, as far as I know, there should be no major plans in the near future." ”
Wang Zhaoxiang suddenly asked: "Speaking of this Karina, what is your relationship with her? Grandpa knows that she has given birth to a son, that son is said to be a mixed-race child, and his father is obviously a yellow race, do you know who the biological father of this child is?"
Chen Feng was stunned by his sudden question, and after a while, he said with some hesitation: "I...... Of course I don't know...... Although I am familiar with her, I rarely ask about emotional matters. ”
Wang Zhaoxiang's face turned pale and said, "I have seen photos of her son, how do I feel that her son is very similar to your son?"
As soon as Chen Feng heard this, the cold sweat on his forehead suddenly fell, and he wanted to quibble, but he couldn't say a word, in front of the official authority of Wang Zhaoxiang, the national leader, Chen Feng really didn't have the ability to continue to lie, not to mention that he was not a good liar.
Probably seeing that Chen Feng's face was a little ugly, Wang Zhaoxiang temporarily let Chen Feng go, and said: "Okay, I don't care about this matter, but you have to ensure Karina's loyalty to you and not let her get out of your grasp, after all, the strength of Huateng International Holding Investment Group cannot be underestimated, and you must firmly control it in your own hands." ”
Chen Feng Nuonuo nodded, greatly relieved in his heart, but he was really afraid that Wang Zhaoxian would continue to entangle on this issue, so he quickly changed the topic and asked him, "Grandpa, what are your main responsibilities now?"
Wang Zhaoxiang said with a smile: "It's not much the same as before, in addition to being in charge of agriculture, forestry and water, there are also sanitation and associations. ”
As soon as Chen Feng heard him say this, he was first overjoyed, and then his face suddenly changed a little.
2003, as we all know, is a very extraordinary year, this year will be commemorated by many people, because this year occurred a terrible epidemic disease - SARS for short, thousands of people died in the country, the capital of the city was closed because of the disease, restricting the movement of people...... It has directly affected all aspects of the lives of ordinary people in China. Regarding the disease that is about to occur this year, Chen Feng has always wanted to find a good opportunity to report to his godfather, and then let him report it to the highest level of the central government, maybe he can control this terrible epidemic disease in advance, but Chen Feng also knows that this is very worried, and he has no suitable excuse to tell this matter, and after saying it, his godfather may not accept it.
In Chen Feng's memory, as soon as the Spring Festival holiday passed, rumors of an "unknown virus attacking Guangzhou" spread at an exponential rate through oral transmission, mobile phone text messages, and Internet chat rooms, which for a time made the men, women, and children of all cities in Guangzhou panic -- queuing up to buy medicine and vinegar, wearing masks on the streets, not daring to patronize food, and even once developed to the point of competing for oil, salt, and rice...... Old Guangzhou exclaimed: I have never seen this kind of scene!
Hong Kong's South China Morning Post said that people who are still immersed in the festive atmosphere have entered a "black hole" full of rumors and panic.
Prior to this, the first recorded case was in Foshan City, Guangdong Province, on November 16, 2002, and then, just after the farewell of 2002 in January, Heyuan City, Guangdong Province, located about 200 kilometers east of Guangzhou, set off a rare rush to buy antiviral drugs. Xiangxue antiviral oral liquid, roxithromycin, erythromycin...... As long as the pill box is marked with antiviral and antiviral to prevent viral infection, it is quickly snapped up by local citizens. Originally, the price of a box of antiviral oral liquid was about 10 yuan, but the price first rose to 30 yuan, then to 60 yuan, and even to more than 100 yuan. It is said that this is because an unknown virus is circulating in the source of the river, the contagiousness is so strong that it cannot be prevented, and there is no cure for the ferocity of the disease. It is rumored that two patients with high fever were hospitalized in Heyuan People's Hospital, but their condition did not improve, but a large number of medical staff who treated them fell down, and some doctors and nurses died.
Fear swept through the city. Experts arrived from Guangzhou, and they announced that the preliminary diagnosis of the patient was atypical pneumonia. It is reported that among the experts who came for consultation at that time, one of them went to Chancheng District, Foshan City on November 16, 2002 to consult the first case of atypical pneumonia.
On January 8, the reporter received the report and rushed to Heyuan. There were few people on the streets, and this once-quiet town seemed a bit depressed. The Heyuan People's Hospital is even more deserted, it is said that because citizens are afraid of being infected by the terrible virus, they dare not come to see a doctor. When the leaders of the health department of Heyuan City saw the reporter, as soon as the word "virus" was mentioned, their hands were swayed, and obvious tension appeared on their faces. When a pharmaceutical company proposed to donate a batch of antiviral oral liquid to the citizens of Heyuan, the leaders of the local health administration department were embarrassed, worried that the public would associate the word "antiviral" with "unknown virus". They flatly denied the "unknown virus", saying that it was only because of the great changes in the weather that the number of cold patients increased. Two days later, the New Express began to pay attention to SARS in its news section, with an article entitled "Heyuan People Rush to Guangzhou to Buy Antibiotics?" arguing that Guangzhou citizens were unaware of the "Heyuan panic". However, this unawareness does not seem to last long, and panic about this strange unconfirmed contagion begins to build up among the citizens. At noon on February 8, a piece of news quietly spread among the crowd - a deadly flu outbreak in Guangzhou. The media in Guangdong are somewhat overwhelmed, and the reporters and editors are flooded with all sorts of strange news about it, and their professional instincts have made it clear to the reporters and editors that the subject matter is newsworthy.
At that time, the panic in Heyuan did not affect the city of Guangzhou, which was bidding farewell to the old and welcoming the new. But just two weeks later, panic began to spread to the city of Zhongshan, less than two hours from Guangzhou. On January 16, rumors of an "unknown virus" ravaged Zhongshan, and cases of "atypical pneumonia" appeared in Zhongshan. The symptoms of the patients were fever at first, and after a week of high fever, there was no specific antibiotic to suppress it, and some of them also had severe lung function impairment and needed ventilator treatment. What is alarming is the contagiousness of the disease. According to this reporter's understanding, some doctors and interns in a hospital in Zhongshan City were infected because they did not know that the disease was contagious at that time and did not take timely protection. The reporter was covering the news in Zhongshan at the time, and the relevant departments were very secretive about this issue, very evasive, and refused to disclose any information.
According to the "Information Times": In response to the reporter's verification, a person in charge of the Zhongshan City Center for Disease Control and Prevention did not hesitate to say: "No, there is no pneumonia epidemic in Zhongshan City at all, this is all rumors, and citizens do not need to panic excessively." At the same time, the relevant person in charge of the disease control department of the Guangdong Provincial Health Department also told reporters: "At present, we have not received any reports of the epidemic of pneumonia in Zhongshan City. They also said that it was just the weather that caused the increase in the number of colds. But the scene of Heyuan grabbing medicine was repeated in Zhongshan.
At the end of January, the outbreak spread to the city of Foshan, which is closer to Guangzhou. Around January 25, there was a sudden increase in the number of patients with atypical pneumonia in the infectious disease department and respiratory department of Shunde District People's Hospital in Foshan City, and nurses needed to be transferred to other departments. When the news spread, it became "several nurses have died in the hospital, and there is a bird flu pandemic".
On January 31, the Chinese New Year's Eve, the reporter interviewed on the streets of Shunde District and found passers-by talking about roxithromycin disease prevention method (twice a day, two capsules each time, for three days). Similarly, drugs such as roxithromycin are once again being queued up for purchase. Rumors such as "bird flu," "death," and "a large number of doctors being infected in large numbers" caused panic among the people, and on the eve of the Chinese New Year's Eve Chinese New Year's Eve meal, the reporter even found that the people of Shunde, who had always been unhappy with chickens, did not dare to buy live chickens in the farmers' market.
In early February, the situation deteriorated in Guangzhou. According to the New Express, the earliest case of SARS in Guangzhou was a hawker from a Guangzhou railway station. The patient was admitted to the Department of Respiratory Medicine of the General Hospital of Guangzhou Military Region on November 28, 2002, and was cured and discharged on December 28, 2002. The patient, a man in his 30s, was admitted to the hospital with a high fever, and two days after admission, pneumonia was not obvious
Respiratory failure developed quickly, and after about a week of ventilator support, the condition gradually improved. At that time, the patient was using one of the best antibiotics available today, "Taineng", and the pneumonia still could not be controlled, which is very rare.
As a result of long-term use of various antibiotics, the patient later developed co-infection. For co-infection, the existing antibiotics can be effective, but the pathogen cannot be found in the early stage of severe pneumonia, and there is no antibiotic to control the development of pneumonia. At that time, the doctor diagnosed the patient with "severe pneumonia", and the actual diagnosis of the patient should have been what is now called atypical pneumonia.
While the patient was admitted to the General Hospital of the Guangzhou Military Region, from mid-December, patients with atypical pneumonia in Heyuan were transferred to the General Hospital of the Guangzhou Military Region for treatment, including an infected doctor. As of 17 January 2003, the General Hospital of the Guangzhou Military Region had admitted about 10 patients with atypical pneumonia from Zhongshan, Qingyuan and Shenzhen. On January 18, the Second Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University (hereinafter referred to as "Sun Yat-sen Second Hospital") began to admit eight patients, whose symptoms were similar to those admitted to the General Hospital of Guangzhou Military Region, from Shunde, Dongguan and Fangcun District of Guangzhou City.
Starting at 7 p.m. on January 31, the Third Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University (hereinafter referred to as "Sun Yat-sen Third Hospital") also received three patients with atypical pneumonia transferred from other hospitals, including a 10-year-old boy from Guangzhou. All three were in very serious condition, and they had to be put on ventilators as soon as they were admitted to the hospital. The Third Hospital of Zhongshan gathered experts from pediatrics, infectious diseases, respiratory departments and other departments to work continuously for 12 hours from Chinese New Year's Eve night to the next morning. According to a doctor who participated in the first aid, a patient had respiratory failure and needed to be intubated immediately, and as soon as the tube was inserted, the sputum from the patient's lungs splashed out like a spray, and many medical staff present were splashed everywhere on their faces, hands, and bodies. On the evening of February 3, a 10-year-old boy in the most serious condition died, the youngest patient to die in the SARS incident so far.
It is understood that in this "SARS" pneumonia incident, the hospitals that received patients with atypical pneumonia also included the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical College, the First and Second People's Hospitals of Guangzhou, the Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Eighth People's Hospital of Guangzhou, the Guangzhou Chest Hospital and the 177 Hospital.
It can be said that almost all large general hospitals in Guangzhou receive patients.
Many doctors in Guangzhou who were exposed to cases of SARS were initially unaware or did not have time to realize the contagiousness of the disease, and the medical staff who treated the first batch of patients began to be infected one after another. The figures released by the Guangzhou municipal government on February 11 showed that there were 192 patients in Guangzhou, of which 84 were medical workers. Among them, the Second and Third Zhongshan Hospitals were the most infected.
The earliest cases of doctors being infected occurred in the Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the First Hospital of Guangzhou Medical College. Since late January, medical staff at the First Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University have been infected in the process of treating patients. The doctors of the Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine were infected for a similar time as the doctors of the First Hospital of Guangzhou Medical College, and their conditions have been controlled after treatment, and some have recovered. On January 30, the Second Zhongshan Hospital had to open four floors 15, 16, 17, and 18 as special isolation wards and set up a special treatment team to deal with the illness due to the reception of a particularly seriously ill patient and the lack of preventive measures by medical staff.
Immediately afterwards, on February 3, 12 medical staff of the Third Hospital of Zhongshan also developed severe headache, high fever and other symptoms. It is reported that at present, the medical staff working on the front line of emergency care in the Third Hospital of Zhongshan is the third batch.
According to the analysis of experts, the reason why medical staff are infected in batches is that they are very tired and have a weakened resistance due to the nervousness of rescuing patients; second, they have close contact with patients for a long time; and third, the initial contagiousness of this disease is relatively strong, and medical staff are more likely to bear the brunt of infection.
The news of medical staff falling ill one after another, phone calls, mobile phone text messages, and e-mails quietly spread in a large area of Guangzhou, and the more it spread, the more sensational it became. Some people say that they "die when they take a picture of this type of pneumonia", or even "they are infected in the morning and die in the afternoon", and some people say that "many medical staff die". When many employees officially went to work after the holiday on February 8, the rumors immediately "escalated", and people wearing masks could be seen everywhere on the streets of Guangzhou. On 10 February, the rumors reached a climax and spread from Guangzhou to other parts of the Pearl River Delta such as Shenzhen and Zhuhai, and then to neighboring areas such as Hainan, Fujian, Jiangxi, Guangxi and Hong Kong.
Since February 10, the trend of rushing to buy banlan root and white vinegar has landed in Guangzhou at an abnormal speed. More than a month ago, the people of Guangzhou, who were still unbelievable that the people of Heyuan were crazy about antibiotics, were willing to spend 70 yuan to buy a pack of banlan root with only one-tenth of the original price, and the 20 yuan a bottle of white vinegar were all snatched up by the people.
The relevant figures later released by Guangdong Province and Guangzhou City show that in this SARS incident, many patients from Heyuan, Zhongshan and other places were sent to Guangzhou for treatment, and the number of local patients in Guangzhou was also quite large, which made Guangzhou the most concerning place in this incident.
In the more than a month since the first outbreak of SARS in Heyuan City, media reporters have repeatedly contacted the health authorities of Guangdong Province, Guangzhou City and other places. The provincial health administrative department has also repeatedly told reporters that it has received reports from Heyuan and other places, and has organized an expert group to go to the local investigation, but for various reasons, the results of the investigation cannot be released to the public for the time being.
On the same day, the "Yangcheng Evening News" clearly told the public on the front page that atypical pneumonia cases had been found in Guangdong and reminded the citizens to take precautions. The next morning, the Guangzhou Municipal Government held a press conference, at which Huang Jionglie, director of the Guangzhou Municipal Health Bureau, briefed the media on the situation of atypical pneumonia cases in Guangzhou. Chen Chuanyu, Vice Mayor of Guangzhou, and Zhang Huoying, Deputy Secretary-General of the Guangzhou Municipal Government, pledged on behalf of the municipal government that under the guidance of modern science and technology, Guangzhou is confident and capable of coping with the challenges of any disease. In the afternoon, the Guangdong Provincial Department of Health reported the outbreak of atypical pneumonia in six cities in Guangdong. In the following ten days, on the front pages of various media in Guangzhou, "atypical pneumonia" became the hottest word. The rapid and effective action of the media basically met the information needs of the people, and the content of the reports mainly focused on the notification of government measures, the announcement of cases, prevention and prevention, the supervision and investigation of illegal traders, the suppression of panic buying, the exploration of the source of SARS, the reporting of medical personnel and patients, and various topics of reflection.
On the afternoon of the same day, the Guangdong Provincial Department of Health and Foshan, Zhuhai and other places also held similar briefings.
Provincial and municipal governments have acknowledged the discovery of patients with atypical pneumonia in Guangdong Province and Guangzhou City. The official version is that as of 3 p.m. on February 10, a total of 305 cases of atypical pneumonia were detected in some parts of Guangdong Province, with 5 deaths. Among the infected patients, a total of 105 cases of infection occurred among medical staff, and none of them died. After emergency treatment by the health and medical departments and the vast number of medical workers, 59 people have recovered from their illnesses and have been discharged, and those who have not yet been discharged from the hospital have all been effectively treated and are in stable condition.
February 11 was a turning point for news reporting. Previously, although rumors had spread in the streets, local newspapers and television media in Guangdong were almost silent. In January, some media outlets reported sporadically about the rush to buy antibiotics in Heyuan, Zhongshan and other places, but then the local government authorities told other media to "refute the rumors" in a stern tone.
On February 10, the "rush to buy" spread throughout Guangzhou, and on the same day, various media received three urgent notices, requiring them to strictly abide by journalistic discipline and not to report on "SARS" and "rush buying" without authorization. On the evening of the 10th, all news units received another notice on the announcement of the SARS epidemic and were asked to distribute it in full as a result. Under such circumstances, the major media in Guangzhou can only play some marginal balls and publish articles such as "Beware of colds and pneumonia in spring" to convey some information. It wasn't until after the press conference on February 11 that the media began to cover the incident in great detail.
At about 4 p.m. on 12 February, another strange rush of buying swept from the villages and towns in the suburbs of Guangzhou City to the city center, and this time the targets of the rush were actually salt and rice! The owners of some rice shops and grocery stores seized the opportunity to raise prices, and the price of salt skyrocketed from the usual 1 yuan per pack to 8 to 10 yuan per pack, and the price of rice also rose by 2 to 4 times.
According to a reporter who rushed to the scene, the owner of a grocery store saw that people were still rushing to buy a bag of salt when it was sold for 5 yuan, so he raised the price to 10 yuan a pack, which was 10 times the previous price. But at this time, people seemed to have lost their minds, and they still paid generously, buying as few as 5 packs of 8 packs, and as many as 10 packs of 20 packs. Those who bought salt happily squeezed out of the crowd and went home with a spring breeze on their faces, while those who did not buy salt complained that they got the news too late and rushed to other stores.
The media in Guangzhou dispatched a large number of reporters to follow the matter and investigate countless citizens, but the answers were similar. No one can say why they are panicking. Some people say that there is going to be a war in the Gulf and that the price of salt is going to rise, some people say that if you can't buy vinegar, you will buy salt and disinfect your living room with salt water, and some people say that salt can cure SARS, and many more people are at a loss.
At 10 o'clock that night, the relevant departments of Guangzhou City held an emergency meeting, and the commercial department, the grain department, and the salt monopoly bureau refuted the rumors one after another. The next day, except for a few grocery stores, large supermarkets were basically in sufficient supply of salt and rice, and prices fell rapidly.
On February 19, Huang Jionglie, director of the Guangzhou Municipal Health Bureau, announced that the atypical pneumonia disease had been effectively contained, and the major media in Guangzhou seemed to have gradually lost interest in "SARS" since February 20.
When the Guangzhou Municipal Government and the Guangdong Provincial Department of Health held press conferences on February 11 to announce to the public for the first time the cumulative number of reported cases and deaths of SARS in the local area, it had been more than a month since the Guangdong Provincial Department of Health first received a report from Heyuan on January 2, and nearly three months after the first case of SARS in Foshan in Guangdong Province on November 16, 2002, which was retrospectively retrospective. During this period, seven cities in Guangdong Province have reported the emergence of such a "contagious" disease that has not been seen before.
In fact, on the same day after receiving the report from Heyuan, the Guangdong Provincial Department of Health sent a team of experts headed by Xiao Zhenglun, deputy director of the respiratory disease research department of Guangzhou Medical College, to investigate. The next morning, the investigation team wrote a report that it was a localized outbreak of pneumonia of unknown cause, and that it was certain that the disease was contagious. However, there is no follow-up to this report, and there is no document that has been conveyed to the municipal health and medical units. Half a month later, Zhongshan City began to report that three hospitals in the city had admitted a group of patients with fever and lung infection symptoms of unknown causes, and many medical staff were infected. The Guangdong Provincial Department of Health once again organized an expert team to investigate, and the team leader was still Xiao Zhenglun.
On January 21, the expert group wrote an "Investigation Report on Pneumonia of Unknown Cause in Zhongshan City", naming the disease "atypical pneumonia (the cause is unknown, and the possibility of viral infection is high)". Local media reported that the Guangdong Provincial Department of Health issued the report on January 23 to the health bureaus at the local level and above, as well as the medical and health units directly under the provincial and ministerial departments in Guangzhou, but unfortunately they were stranded on the way and did not arrive at major hospitals in Guangzhou until the end of January. At this time, China is approaching the Spring Festival, the most important traditional festival of the year.
On February 11, Huang Qingdao, director of the Guangdong Provincial Department of Health, said in an interview after a press conference that he said in response to a reporter's question why the government had only released the report on the condition of atypical pneumonia until now, first, because most of the patients in Heyuan, Zhongshan and other places had recovered or improved after treatment and had not recurred, and second, because atypical pneumonia was not a notifiable infectious disease, so it was not necessary to make it public. "The number of cases of 305 is not too much, and it is okay not to announce it," Mr. Huang said. "Now because of the great social impact, I decided to announce it. ”
The so-called "great social impact" refers to the rumors that various "unknown viruses have hit Guangzhou" in Guangzhou after the Spring Festival holiday, and citizens have rushed to buy medicines, banlan root and vinegar on a large scale.
This is not the first time this phenomenon has occurred. As early as Heyuan in early January and Zhongshan in mid-January, similar rumors and panic buying frenzy have appeared in both cities. The local government quickly came forward to refute the rumors, saying that "there was no epidemic virus" or "there was no epidemic of pneumonia at all, these are all rumors". The debunking of rumors has successfully suppressed panic buying. However, it is clear that rumors cannot be collectively called rumors, because they are well-founded. By early February, many SARS patients had been admitted to many major hospitals in Guangzhou, and hundreds of medical staff in the province had been infected.
However, the theme of the press conference was that the epidemic in Guangdong has been brought under control. At that time, the China-Brazil football match was to be held in Guangzhou, and Huang Qingdao said that SARS had no effect on the game. He said: For a large province with a population of 70 million, only 305 cases have been found, which is less than any kind of infectious disease that needs to be reported, such as dysentery and influenza; atypical pneumonia is not a virulent infectious disease and is not included in the list of notifiable infectious diseases. Huang Qingdao also stressed that SARS did not "spread" in Guangdong, but only "occurred locally".
As a result, the public narrative that the epidemic in Guangdong was under control spread to other provinces and cities in China and overseas, and then Liu Jianlun, a nephrologist at the Second Zhongshan Hospital in Guangzhou, checked into a hotel in Hong Kong and transmitted the virus to six other people of different nationalities. The infected people in turn brought the virus to Canada, Singapore and Vietnam through international travel. According to the three major criteria of the World Health Organization for the exclusion of epidemic areas, one of them is that there must be no cases exported to other countries or regions, but this is obviously not achieved by the health department of Guangdong Province.
At the same time that the health authorities of Guangdong Province announced to the world that the epidemic in Guangdong had been brought under control, the major hospitals in Guangzhou fell into an unprecedented tense atmosphere. In the course of the fight against SARS in Guangzhou, the Second and Third Zhongshan Hospitals were the two hospitals that were most severely affected. A total of 93 medical staff from the Second Zhongshan Hospital fell ill, including several hospital-level leaders and chief physicians of the hospital. There are more than 30 in the Zhongshan Third Hospital.
