Chapter 239: FD is coming
A virus whose origin is currently unknown to humans. At the end of 2002, it quietly invaded one of the richer provinces of southern China. In the months that followed, the specter threatened the health of all mankind and profoundly affected Chinese society in political, economic, and cultural senses.
As soon as the Spring Festival holiday passed, rumors of an "unknown virus hitting Guangzhou" spread at an exponential rate through guò word of mouth, mobile phone text messages, and Internet chat rooms, which made the whole city panic for a while...... Old Guangzhou exclaimed: I have never seen this kind of scene!
By January at the latest, SARS had been detected in Guangdong and was quickly reported because it was clearly a malignant infectious disease. And our Minister Zhang was so obsessed with medical treatment that he not only did not announce it to the whole country, but also did not even report it to the health system, and due to a lack of vigilance, hundreds of medical staff in Guangdong were infected!
In February, rumors spread across the country, people rushed to buy drugs such as banlangen, and the epidemic spread further, Minister Zhang was still obsessed, and even instructed the major media across the country to "refute the rumors", and the best opportunity to eradicate SARS was lost step by step! Of course. Now because of Chen Feng's involvement in this matter, maybe with the proper deployment of Grandpa God, he can fight this battle.
In the original history, in March, when a SARS case was discovered in Beijing, Minister Zhang personally intervened and did not allow the hospital to announce it.
In March, the Director-General of the World Labour Organization (ILO) fell ill and died in China. The epidemic has spread all over the world. The World Health Organization convened a meeting, and experts from various countries strongly criticized the Chinese government, and some delegates called it a disaster.
At the end of March, General Secretary Hu was forced by international pressure and severe conditions to demand that the whole country take the prevention and control of SARS as a political task.
At that time, SARS had spread to 24 countries and regions around the world, and the catastrophe had already been accomplished, and it was too late to regret it! At that time, Zhang Wenkang was dismissed from his post in April, and the successor minister admitted that "the Ministry of Health has not taken effective measures in the prevention and control of SARS." It is very rare to hear a Chinese official say such things in public, and of course the same self-blame and frank admission. Premier Zhu Rongji, who is known for his integrity, has also made a statement, but it is still surprising that such a tone suddenly appeared in Zhang Wenkang's forcible and cunning rhetoric just a few days ago. In recent decades, China seems to have only had one or two withdrawals, but on April 4, Zhang Wenkang was still saying: "The mainland is willing to provide Taiwan compatriots with help in the prevention and treatment of SARS", at that time, many people felt strange, and now they have not taken any preventive measures, after the media has gone through some "patient persuasion" work, it has been announced that "SARS" has gradually left us, why is it epidemic in Hong Kong, Australia, Singapore, and even the United States? Then, after watching the Guangdong Satellite TV station, during the WHO inspection, it was actually the Chinese citizens and foreign tourists interviewed who all said to the reporters in one voice, "We don't think there is anything to be afraid of SARS, so we don't wear masks!"
Then, on April 6, at a press conference of the Ministry of Health, Health Minister Zhang Wenkang said: "As you can see, Chinese mainland society is now stable, and people's lives and work continue to be normal. Here, I can responsibly tell everyone. It is safe to work and live in China, including traveling. All of you here, wearing a mask or not wearing a mask, I believe it is safe. ”
Then on April 10, our experts tightened the "persuasion and education work": "The SARS epidemic was announced in a timely manner, and experts believe that there is no need to worry too much", and some experts said: "SARS is not as contagious as the flu", and the next message was: "Tell the public truthfully, there is no problem of shrinking and concealing the number of patients, and the 'gossip' is not enough to rely on." ”
Back in February of this year, when the newspaper was out of the way and people began to rush to buy drugs in large quantities, there was a time when some people used short messages to spread the news of the epidemic and faced the possibility of being prosecuted. Although there was no follow-up later, major websites began to frantically start the deletion action. All information about this was removed until the end of March, when the second Iraq war broke out, and attention finally turned to the stage of focusing on the Gulf war. This turmoil has just subsided.
However, the virus has not forgotten humanity. At the same time, on the one hand, there are more and more cases outside the country, but the Hong Kong media, which has always grabbed news hotspots, has not reported on the war, but has turned to the "anti-inflammatory" campaign. However, the epidemic situation in our country has not been curbed because of propaganda and persuasion, and finally the WHO has designated Guangdong, Beijing, and Shanxi as epidemic areas in China......
The constant epidemic in Manyan has made us no longer believe the speech of Zhang Wenkang, the Minister of Health, on behalf of the government, and those experts that we often believe to be true! These experts may have suffered a devastating blow during the Cultural Revolution and have become afraid to speak the truth and stand up for the people's lives. On the contrary, now they are standing up one by one, proving that the news that the virus is raging is false, and that the virus is not terrible...... Obviously, they chose the former in the double choice question of job bowl and morality.
Some netizens said that if the virus hadn't spread so fast, Zhang Wenkang would have been constantly telling surreal lies to the outside world like Iraqi Foreign Minister Sahaf, which is for sure. However, there is another point, if our party and country do not make up their minds to "change the generals on the spot," no matter how raging the virus is, there will not be a day when they will see the light of day. This has happened many times over the course of several decades. During the three-year difficult period, the sun was shining everywhere, and the countless people who suffered during the Cultural Revolution were still "long live the three red flags" for decades.
The reason why Zhang Wenkang was able to confront the facts with lies in this way is not accidental, but inevitable. Zhang Wenkang's behavior of deceiving the world can be said to be a long-standing behavior in China. It is one-sided to attribute his personal lies to his personal character. His lying and dereliction of duty is a phenomenon that we can call the "Zhang Wenkang phenomenon".
People used to think that this phenomenon was a phenomenon of "bullying the upper and lower". In fact. He also has one more peculiarity. He can only "conceal it", but it is impossible to "deceive it". Just like during the Cultural Revolution and the Great Leap Forward, the reason why he wanted to hide it could even be said to be to maintain the peace of singing and dancing, and to maintain the majesty and dignity of a great country. At a press conference on April 4, he said: "We can't say that China or Hong Kong is exporting diseases. Although his excuse is not convincing, we cannot doubt his selfishness and his character in this regard. On the one hand, he is making urgent arrangements and organizing experts to conduct research, and his efforts in this regard should not be worthy of our doubt. with his position and professional competence. He should know the strict nature of this virus, and he will not be slack off because of this.
The reason why he lies is that what he fears is for the people to know, for the world to know, and for the truth to be revealed to the world! The fundamental reason for this is that in the logic of China's officialdom, the concept that "the people can make it happen, but cannot make it known" has become deeply rooted, and its ultimate goal is to fear that this will cause greater panic. In officialdom, stability is higher than a qiē, and the responsibility is so heavy, where does he dare to take it lightly?
The reason why he wanted to hide it was also to "be a good official" for him. As a politician who takes being an official as his profession and as a member of China's officialdom, with the logic of Chinese officialdom, his superiors did not nod, what right does he have to express his position, and what qualifications does he have to express his position?
We can imagine that when the status of the individual has been determined, when his organization has already announced its decision, to ask him to resign, to apologize, I think he will most likely not hesitate. But if his superiors don't nod his head, and let the epidemic develop compared to the Great Leap Forward, he will be tough to the end and never tell the truth. This is the criterion of officialdom, this is the criterion of "being responsible for the superiors", and the criterion that the subordinates can do nonsense. If he gets the approval of his superiors, he will even use dictatorial means to deal with people in the epidemic, and the "rumor-monger" in February is a very realistic example.
The reason why he hid it was, of course, also because of his selfishness. In this case, although it reflects the problem of "the people are less important and the higher authorities are precious" formed by our system, it also reflects an important aspect of its own shirking of responsibility. Big officials pressure small officials, and the further expansion of the epidemic is of course important to his career.
The "Zhang Wenkang phenomenon" reflects the logic of our officialdom, which is a logic of "serving the officials" rather than the logic of "serving the people." "Be responsible for the superiors" and "be responsible for each level". It has already made "coming from the masses and going to the masses" a de facto "formulation" that is difficult to put into practice.
The dismissal came suddenly, and in an interview with Nguyen Ci Son of Phoenix Terrace a few days before his dismissal, Truong Van Kang, who is the Minister of Health, said that he had vowed to "not wear a mask". We should really be glad that we have met a brand new team, and after the "Qingtian" and "Zhu Qingtian", there is another generation of Qingtian who works for the people and is the master of the people!
But looking back, if we rely on our "blue sky" instead of relying on the guarantee of a system, will we be able to guarantee that we will always have a blue sky in the next 10 or 20 years? Instead of "long live the three red flags" like the disaster a few decades ago? This is a question that is worth pondering.
Due to SARS, the number of tourists in the tourist area of Mount Tai alone dropped by 60 percent that year! It is conservatively estimated that SARS will pull down China's economic growth by at least one percentage point, in other words, China will lose at least 100 billion!
Mr. Zhang has said he is the health minister of 1.3 billion people, not the health minister of 5 million health workers. And today, for his own selfishness, he has put the safety of 1.3 billion people at risk!
SARS was a three-part natural disaster and seven parts man-made disaster, and Zhang Wenkang was undoubtedly the main culprit! As the dignified Chinese minister of health, he was in charge of the nation's health and epidemic prevention work, but because of his personal or small collective interests, he disregarded the lives and safety of hundreds of millions of people throughout the country.
Of course, now because of Chen Feng's intervention, it seems that Minister Zhang has no chance to hold a press conference in a bright and bright manner, solemnly announcing to the world: "It is safe to work, live and travel in China!"
After talking to Chen Feng that morning, Wang Zhaoxiang immediately set off for the State Council office and arranged for his competent subordinates to investigate the "atypical pneumonia" in Guangdong.
After Chen Feng finished talking to his godfather, he was naturally very concerned about SARS.
stayed in the room all day, didn't bother to make phone calls on the Internet, and temporarily declined the banquet of Chen Keying's family today, and changed it to tomorrow, waiting for the news from his grandfather.
In the evening, Chen Feng waited anxiously, and finally couldn't help but call his godgrandfather Wang Zhaoxiang.
After the phone was connected, Chen Feng asked straight to the point: "Grandpa, is there a result in Guangdong?"
Wang Zhaoxiang pondered for a while before he said in a somewhat heavy tone: "Well, the result is out, and the situation is very bad." I was really mistaken by you, Xiao Feng, did you really see this news on the Internet?"
Facing Wang Zhaoxiang's inquiry, Chen Feng felt a thrill in his heart, and hurriedly affirmed: "Yes, I accidentally saw it on the Internet a few days ago, and besides, I happened to see a report on this atypical pneumonia in Guangdong on the Internet some time ago. As I said, my instincts have always been very good, and this time it was tested again. Speaking of this, Chen Feng immediately changed the topic, "By the way, grandpa, I saw a report last time that Guangdong is about to set up a medical rescue expert steering group for the prevention and treatment of SARS, and the leader of the team is Zhong Nanshan, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, I think he should be able to find out how to prevent and treat SARS." ”
In 2003, a sudden "SARS" made many people remember the name Zhong Nanshan. In the face of the raging "SARS", Zhong Nanshan based on his years of clinical practice, in the shortest possible time to find a set of effective treatment methods, set a record of the world's lowest SARS mortality rate in Guangdong Province, Zhong Nanshan did a qiē for him to win the reputation of "the first hero in the fight against SARS".
In the face of the ferocious "SARS", Zhong Nanshan bravely stood up and took the initiative to ask the Guangdong Provincial Health Department to send the most critically ill patients to their hospitals. Zhong Nanshan said to his colleagues: This is the time when we need to stand up, we are originally studying respiratory diseases, and the most arduous task of treatment is not to me? He took the lead, went deep into the isolation ward, personally examined every patient, and worked out a treatment plan, and Zhong Nanshan spent the entire Spring Festival in 2003 in the busy consultation and guidance of treatment.
In order to find out the law of "SARS", Zhong Nanshan led the research team to tackle key problems day and night, and he did not close his eyes for 38 consecutive hours and stuck to his post. Finally, in a relatively short period of time, we have found effective treatment methods of "early diagnosis, early isolation, and early treatment" and "rational use of corticosteroids, reasonable use of ventilators, and reasonable treatment of complications", so that among the 1,511 confirmed SARS patients in Guangdong, the mortality rate is controlled at 3.8%, and this number has set the best result in the world.
The communication of the southern network said: This is a Nanshan standing tall in the torrent of "SARS"!
In April and May 2003, Zhong Nanshan rushed to Beijing many times to use his courage and wisdom to help more people fight against SARS. And by means of television video, he transmitted his experience to the other side of the strait. Experts from the World Health Organization commented: "The treatment experience explored by Guangdong experts led by Zhong Nanshan is of guiding significance for the world to fight against SARS. At the same time, a poll conducted by the China Social Research Institute on people in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou showed that 89 percent of respondents believed that Zhong Nanshan was a hero.
Zhong Nanshan did not become famous overnight. In 1979, as one of the first Chinese scholars sent abroad to the University of Edinburgh and the University of London for further study, he used his body to make practical scientific research results that caused a sensation in the British Medical Association, and in 1985, he was the first batch of national experts with outstanding contributions, he has won more than 20 national and provincial scientific research achievement awards, and published more than 70 papers in medical journals at home and abroad. Some of his achievements in respiratory disease research have established China's leading position in the Asia-Pacific region.
The research group led by Academician Zhong proposed a set of effective treatment methods, which greatly improved the successful rescue rate of SARS critically ill patients in Guangdong, reduced the mortality rate, and significantly shortened the treatment time of patients.
As the director of the Institute of Respiratory Diseases of the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical College, Zhong Nanshan and his colleagues rushed to the forefront of treating SARS patients. The Huyan Institute has become a shelter for the most critically ill patients in Guangdong.
As the leader of the provincial medical treatment expert guidance group, Zhong Nanshan carefully guided the treatment of patients despite his advanced age and the risk of being infected, and became the backbone of the treatment business.
As an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Zhong Nanshan insisted on seeking truth from facts, actively carried out cooperation, and worked hard to find pathogens.
As an admired old and advanced model, Zhong Nanshan radiated new brilliance in the battle against "SARS" in southern Guangdong, and once again became the pride of Guangdong people.
A rare report on the performance of the record: As of April 19, a total of 101 SARS patients have been admitted to the Huyan Institute of the First Hospital of Guangzhou Medical College, and 87 have recovered and been discharged. Of these, 54 were the most critically ill patients requiring intubation, with a rescue success rate of 87% (only 7 died due to late transfer or other serious illnesses).
The intensive treatment of critically ill patients not only saved the lives of a large number of patients, but also greatly reduced the pressure on sister hospitals. Zhong Nanshan has become the "backer" of his peers.
The admission of SARS patients to the First Hospital of Guangzhou Medical College began on December 22 last year, and the patients were sent from Heyuan. Zhong Nanshan heard that 5 days had passed, and the cause of the disease could not be found, so he personally consulted. He realized that this was a special case. In cases where the cause cannot be determined for the time being, therapies such as non-invasive ventilation are used to alleviate the patient's condition based on years of clinical experience. Then, the shocking news came from Heyuan: Several medical personnel who had rescued the patient had also been infected with the same disease! Zhong Nanshan felt that the problem was serious. On December 31, he instructed to report it to the epidemic prevention department promptly.
On January 2, the Provincial Health Department decided to ask Zhong Nanshan to send experts to Heyuan for investigation and consultation. The Group of Experts immediately complied.
Subsequently, similar cases were reported in Zhongshan. The institute also sent experts to Zhongshan together with experts from the Guangdong Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other units. On January 21, experts from the national CDC flew to Guangzhou and rushed to Zhongshan that night. Zhong Nanshan also rushed to investigate and guide in the afternoon of the same day. The "Investigation Report on Pneumonia of Unknown Cause in Zhongshan City" was completed overnight. On the 23rd, the Department of Health issued this report to the whole province, which later became known as Document No. 2.
Circular No. 2 named this strange disease as "atypical pneumonia" for the first time, and preliminarily determined its epidemiological characteristics, clinical manifestations, treatment principles, preventive measures and related measures, thus becoming a "treasure book for the prevention and treatment of atypical pneumonia".
Around the Spring Festival, the number of cases in Guangzhou increased, and many hospitals were hit hard because they did not know much about the contagiousness of SARS. At this time, Zhong Nanshan took the initiative to ask Ying to send the most stringent patients to the Huyan Institute.
It took a lot of courage to make this decision. First, the cause was unknown at that time, and no one was sure that the patient would be cured, and if he could not cure it, it would be tantamount to smashing his own brand; second, it was already clear at that time that the disease was extremely contagious, and the more severe the disease, the more contagious it became.
Zhong Nanshan did not consider these. He said to all the comrades of the institute that the time has come to test us, because we are studying respiratory diseases, and who else should we do with the most arduous task of treatment?
Since then, critically ill SARS patients have been transferred from other hospitals. These patients may be co-infected or have multi-organ failure, and the treatment work is quite heavy, and one case data is equivalent to the sum of all patient data in a general ward.
Zhong Nanshan has only one belief: as long as there is 1% hope, he will do 100% to save every patient. He set up a research team composed of three generations of respiratory disease experts, who worked day and night to consult the literature, closely observe the changes of patients, and meticulously record all kinds of materials that can be studied, and finally found a breakthrough: when the shadow of the lungs continues to increase and the blood oxygen monitoring decreases, the timely use of non-invasive ventilation will increase the amount of oxygen inhaled by the patient, which can better improve the patient's symptoms; when the patient has high fever and aggravated lung inflammation, corticosteroids should be appropriately given to prevent pulmonary fibrosis; and when the patient has secondary bacterial infection, antibiotics must be used in a targeted manner。 These treatments were later adopted by many hospitals and became a universal treatment protocol.
Zhong Nanshan has always been on the front line of treating patients. There was a family with 4 people out of 5 people infected. Among them, the eldest son was very unstable in his love, and often rushed out of the isolation ward, saying that he wanted to see his wife, but he was reluctant to let his wife go. Zhong Nanshan personally went to do ideological work and calmed his feelings.
Inspired and driven by Zhong Nanshan, the medical staff of the Huyan Institute charged forward on the front line like soldiers of the Pioneer Company. Patient Zhou had infected many medical staff, and after being transferred to the Huyan Institute, the medical staff knew that there was danger, but they still treated them fearlessly. It can be said that at the peak of the disease, treating a seriously ill patient is like a soldier blowing up a bunker, saving one, and a medical worker is infected and falls.
A total of 26 medical staff were infected during the battle. Still, not a single person ran away, and not a single person regretted it. Some medical staff who were cured after the infection went back to battle, and joked that they had antibodies and "all poisons do not invade".
Zhong Nanshan gave fatherly care to all the staff of the institute. Dr. He, the first doctor in the institute to be infected with SARS, was very touched when she recalled the experience of being hospitalized at the end of January, she said: "The day after I was hospitalized, Director Zhong called to inquire about the situation. Two days later, my condition worsened. Director Zhong was on a business trip at the time and formulated a treatment plan for me overnight. For every sick doctor, he had to auscultate and visit them one by one. "After a doctor was infected, he couldn't answer the phone, and Zhong Nanshan, who was on a business trip, sent a text message at 9 p.m. to inquire about his condition.
It was under the influence of Zhong Nanshan's personality charm that the medical staff of the Huyan Institute bravely charged into battle.
During the Spring Festival, the SARS epidemic in Guangzhou became more and more severe day by day, and there were more and more new patients. On February 3, the third day of the Lunar New Year, the Provincial Department of Health established an expert steering group for the medical treatment of atypical pneumonia in Guangdong Province. Zhong Nanshan served as the team leader. Since then, he has "justifiably" served as a "flying" guide, and ran wherever he was needed. In order to facilitate communication, he rarely uses his mobile phone, and he turns on his mobile phone 24 hours a day. In all large and small hospitals in Guangzhou, he was on call and gave careful guidance to all patients with atypical pneumonia who were admitted to them. Sometimes even his colleagues in the First Hospital of Guangzhou Medical College don't know his whereabouts, because he is so busy that he often calls for help, as long as there is no other important matter at hand for the time being, he will set off immediately, and no one around him will have time to inform him.
On February 11, when various rumors in the society were at their peak, the Provincial Health Department held a press conference, and Zhong Nanshan, as an academician, solemnly told everyone that "SARS" is not terrible, it is completely preventable and curable, and everyone should cooperate with the government and the health department to jointly fight the provocation of the disease. Social sentiment began to settle down. People may not know that after the press conference, Zhong Nanshan dragged his exhaustion and rushed to a hospital to attend the consultation.
Zhong Nanshan not only traveled to almost every place in the province where cases appeared, but also flew to Beijing, Hong Kong and other places to give lectures and guidance. Many of the experts of the Huyan Institute are his students, and they have also traveled to all parts of the country to "fly guidance", and Beijing, Shanghai, Shanxi, Sichuan and other places have imprinted their busy footprints. Someone joked: "It is very easy to ask Academician Zhong to see a doctor, just get SARS." ”
Zhong Nanshan's entire Spring Festival was spent in the busyness of consultation and guidance. His grandson, whom he hadn't seen for more than two years, had returned from New Zealand, and he didn't have time to get close. Even Chinese New Year's Eve and Lantern Festival are on the front line of treatment.
After all, Zhong Nanshan is already a 66-year-old man. Worried about his health, other experts offered to go to a consultation for him and report back to him. But he didn't appreciate it, and whenever he heard that there was a patient who needed him, he rushed to it immediately.
Zhong Nanshan wanted to figure out the law. Although he already knew at that time that he might be infected with SARS due to close contact, he still approached the patient and carefully examined it. Figuring out the rules is very helpful for coming up with effective treatment plans. For example, through a large number of observations and verifications, Zhong Nanshan proposed that corticosteroids should be used early in patients, which is contrary to the traditional treatment of pneumonia. Because if you don't use it at this time, the patient's lungs will be fibrotic. For another example, when giving non-invasive ventilation to a patient, he proposed that ventilation should not be routine, and small-volume ventilation should be required. Because the patient's lungs are already hard at this time, according to conventional ventilation, the ventilation volume is large, and the lungs are easy to break. These measures proved to be very effective.
The expert group headed by Zhong Nanshan studied and discussed treatment plans while guiding the treatment of patients in the province. On March 9, the Provincial Department of Health issued the "Guidelines for the Admission of Atypical Pneumonia Patients in Guangdong Provincial Hospitals", which once again clarified the diagnostic criteria, treatment plans and discharge criteria, so that each hospital has rules to follow, which greatly promotes the treatment of hospitals. At present, more than 1,000 patients have been cured and discharged from hospitals in the province, more than 80% of the total number of patients. They met Zhong Nanshan as soon as possible. After some exchanges and discussions, they gave a thumbs up and said that Zhong Nanshan had collected very detailed and very many case data, and that the treatment experience explored by the Guangdong experts led by him was of guiding significance for the world to fight against SARS.
The cause of SARS was confusing, which made Zhong Nanshan anxious, and he deeply understood his responsibility as a scientist and devoted himself to scientific research on SARS. The biggest problem encountered by experts in the treatment of SARS patients is that the disease has a rapid onset, the disease changes rapidly, the law is elusive, and there is no ready-made treatment experience to refer to. In order to overcome the difficulties, Zhong Nanshan led the experts of the Huyan Institute to continuously discuss the patient's condition, closely observed the changes of the patient in clinical practice, meticulously recorded various parameters that could be studied, read all kinds of information and literature, searched for relevant cases on the Internet, and as long as he could find out a little "clue" about the treatment of this disease, he would immediately convene everyone to study and discuss.
Exploration is hard. Zhong Nanshan often couldn't sleep at night, and the lights in the study were bright all night. The hard work paid off, and after a lot of research, they finally found a set of effective treatments. But the search for pathogens has not been broken through.
Chlamydia infection is suspected of being the cause. However, based on past experience, if chlamydia is infected, the patient should have upper respiratory tract inflammation. In order to make an accurate judgment, Zhong Nanshan personally observed the patient's oral cavity and concluded that all cases had no upper respiratory tract infection, which provided an important decision-making basis for Guangdong to formulate a timely treatment plan. Legionella? No. Avian flu, anthrax, bubonic plague, neither. One possibility after another was ruled out.
Zhong Nanshan has a variety of ways to find the cause. He came up with the idea of working with Hong Kong. Hong Kong has been conducting influenza and avian influenza research for more than 10 years and has accumulated rich experience. In early February, under the leadership of the Guangzhou Municipal Science and Technology Bureau and the Guangzhou Municipal Health Bureau, Zhong Nanshan led relevant experts in Guangzhou to cooperate with the Department of Microbiology of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Hong Kong to establish the "Guangzhou SARS Epidemiology, Etiology and Clinical Diagnosis and Treatment Research Group".
A breakthrough has finally been made in cooperation. At the beginning of April, they came up with results. In the respiratory secretions and double serum tests of more than 40 patients with atypical pneumonia, 2 strains of coronaviruses have been isolated, and it has been preliminarily determined that the coronavirus is very likely to be an important pathogen of the "SARS" in Guangdong.
On April 16, David David, Executive Director for Infectious Diseases of the World Health Organization. announced that after a concerted effort by scientists around the world, a variant of the coronavirus has been officially identified as the causative agent responsible for SARS. In global cooperation, Zhong Nanshan is a giant who has always been on the front line of treatment, with a clear scientific research direction, rigorous academic treatment and a spirit of collaboration.
But at this time, Zhong Nanshan's reputation in China was not obvious after all, Wang Zhaoxiang heard Chen Feng admiring Zhong Nanshan, so he couldn't help but ask a little strangely: "Oh, why are you so sure?"
"Grandpa, as I just said, my intuition, if you listen to me, you will definitely not be wrong. Chen Feng strengthened his tone.
Wang Zhaoxiang couldn't help but be happy when he heard it, and said with a smile: "Xiao Feng, are you really so sure?"
"Yes, grandpa, I'm pretty sure, my instincts have always been very effective, otherwise how could I have established Huateng Group in the first place?"
Wang Zhaoxiang paid attention to it when he heard this, and hurriedly said: "Okay, grandpa will believe you and find someone to understand this academician named Zhong Nanshan." ”
Chen Feng couldn't help urging when he heard this: "Okay, the sooner the better, I believe that in China, Academician Zhong can come up with an effective treatment plan." ”
"Well, grandpa knows, let's say this first, grandpa still has something to do. ”
After Wang Zhaoxiang finished speaking, he hung up the phone. At this time, Chen Feng was constantly recalling the memories of SARS in his previous life. In February 2003, Academician Zhong Nanshan courageously rejected the view of the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention under the Ministry of Health that "typical chlamydia is the cause of atypical pneumonia", which provided a decision-making argument for the Guangdong health administrative department to formulate a timely treatment plan. Prior to this, the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the Ministry of Health announced that in the lung tissue samples of the two fatal cases sent from Guangdong, very typical and clear images of chlamydia particles were seen with electron microscopes, and other pathogens such as mycoplasma and rickettsia, which can also cause atypical pneumonia, were not found. Chlamydia is a third group of microorganisms smaller than bacteria and larger than viruses, and is one of the common causes or secondary causes of respiratory diseases, which can also cause "atypical pneumonia". The expert who looks at the electron microscope is Academician Hong Tao, the most authoritative electron microscope expert in China. Anyone with a little medical knowledge knows that many of the patients with respiratory diseases who have been treated with various drugs for a long time in the hospital are later infected with chlamydia, and these two patients have died, and they may have multiple pathogen infections, but chlamydia has survived on the corpse for a longer time and has been detected.
On the night of that night, CCTV's "News Network" officially announced: "According to the report of the Viral Disease Prevention and Control Center of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, through electron microscopy, it was found that the lung specimens of two autopsies of patients who died of pneumonia had typical chlamydia inclusions, and the plasmic chlamydia particles in the lungs were very typical." The causative agent of atypical pneumonia in some areas of Guangdong Province was basically identified as chlamydia. At 8:07 p.m., Xinhua News Agency officially reported: "The causative agent that causes atypical pneumonia in some parts of Guangdong can basically be identified as chlamydia." "The conclusions of the authoritative department were published by the authoritative media. After the news was announced, many people realized the seriousness of the situation: if the treatment is carried out according to the recommended specific drugs of chlamydia, tetracycline and red mold antibiotics, the treatment plan will be greatly simplified, but if the "chlamydia theory" is wrong, we may pay the patient's life.
An expert who has been involved in the treatment of atypical pneumonia cases in Guangdong Province explained that chlamydia is a pathogen that is very sensitive to antimicrobials, and erythromycin is the first choice for treatment. However, a doctor in Guangzhou once tried to treat a group of patients with atypical pneumonia according to "chlamydia pneumonia", using the above-mentioned antibiotics, and as a result, not only did the condition not reduce, but also showed signs of respiratory failure and other deterioration.
Many medical experts do not agree with the official "chlamydia theory", including Zhong Nanshan, who believes that the transmission, pathogenesis and clinical treatment experience of this atypical pneumonia do not support the results of "chlamydia" infection. In an interview with reporters, he expressed his shock: "How can it be chlamydia? How can we use so many anti-chlamydia antibiotics that have no effect at all?" The discovery of chlamydia in the lung tissues of the two fatal cases can only confirm that the two patients carried chlamydia, but cannot confirm that chlamydia is the cause of the disease, let alone represent all 305 cases in Guangdong (the latest number of cases announced at that time was 305). He even pointed out sharply that the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention rushed to announce its conclusions without consulting clinical experts in Guangdong, which was a very hasty scientific research attitude.
At noon on February 19, an interview with Li Liming, director of the National Center for Disease Control and Control, broadcast by CCTV, recommended several antibiotics that are effective against chlamydia and stressed that the treatment of this chlamydia pneumonia should be full and adequate. But many people later knew that the antibiotics he recommended had no effect on SARS at all.
On February 26, Academician Hong Tao, chief expert of the National Center for Disease Control and Control, reported to Guangdong again that chlamydia was detected positive in 10 specimens submitted for testing, one of which was strongly positive, and the specific drug was rifampicin. This conclusion has caused another uproar in Guangdong's medical circles*. At that time, Guangzhou Chest Hospital, which had admitted a large number of patients with atypical pneumonia, was originally a specialized hospital for treating tuberculosis patients, and rifampicin was a special anti-tuberculosis drug, and some tuberculosis patients were infected with atypical pneumonia during treatment with rifampicin......
Human lives matter. Guangdong experts led by Zhong Nanshan, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, once again adhered to the original treatment principle and did not use rifampicin for treatment.
On March 1, clinical and epidemiological experts in Guangdong unanimously agreed that the atypical pneumonia was a viral infection after discussion. Chlamydia is not the driver who caused the accident, it is just a passenger in the car.
On the evening of March 4, when Zhong Nanshan was interviewed by reporters at Guangzhou Medical College, he once again expressed the view that "pneumonia is caused by viral infection". Zhong Nanshan was not the only expert in Guangdong's medical circles who expressed a view of "virus", basically all clinical experts at that time judged that it was viral pneumonia based on experience, but Zhong Nanshan, with the respect of an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, dared to stand up against the authoritative statement of the National Center for Disease Control and Control, and gave a shot in the arm to the medical community in Guangdong. It was decided to maintain the original treatment regimen, which had already successfully cured 613 patients, and only 32 of the 925 cases reported had died, with a mortality rate even lower than that of other pneumonias, proving that Guangdong's treatment regimen was effective.
On March 25, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Department of Microbiology at the University of Hong Kong announced that the SARS causative agent was a "coronavirus" from pigs. Soon, the coronavirus was also found in several chambers of the World Health Organization.
On March 28, the World Health Organization officially named the SARS "Coronavirus Severe Respiratory Syndrome", or SARS in English, and the WHO pointed out that SARS has spread around the world.
On the afternoon of April 10, at the Beijing Municipal Foreign Affairs Office held a knowledge briefing on the prevention and treatment of atypical pneumonia, Academician Hong Tao, director of the Virus Morphology Research Office of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Control, said that a research team for the prevention and treatment of "atypical pneumonia" composed of 25 experts from the epidemic source, infection, virus, immunity and other disciplines has been established on the 8th. However, it is not clear which virus is the main cause of the disease, and Hong Tao prefers a combination of the two viruses. The National Center for Disease Control and Prevention has finally found the coronavirus as well. But Academician Hong Tao still has a soft spot for the "chlamydia theory" that he first reported.
On the afternoon of April 11, the Guangzhou Institute of Respiratory Disease also held a press conference to announce the discovery of the coronavirus. In fact, the report on the isolation of the coronavirus from the Guangzhou Huyan Institute had been submitted layer by layer a week ago, but the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention preemptively released it.
On April 12, the news was published in important positions in the Guangdong media, which was the first time that Guangdong announced the results of the "coronavirus".
On April 16, the World Health Organization announced in Geneva that a variant of the coronavirus had been officially identified as the causative agent of atypical pneumonia after a concerted effort by researchers around the world. Because the coronavirus isolated from the patient was inoculated in the orangutan, the orangutan developed the same atypical pneumonia as the human. The establishment of animal models is the "gold standard" for confirming pathogens, just as the gold standard for cancer diagnosis and the reported results of pathology sections. The World Health Organization estimates that the world has already lost $30 billion. This is the most valuable phased achievement since the outbreak of SARS in the world. The battle over pathogens has finally been settled.
